Another one of those eye-rolling moments in gaming. · 3:43am Nov 15th, 2023
So Hogwarts Legacy got snubbed at The Game Awards, not getting nominated for anything, and apparently, some people are rather upset at that, because it is one of the best-selling games of 2023.
*ahem*
If you're not just acting outraged for clicks, please get a reality check.
I have played Hogwarts Legacy, along with nine other 2023 games so far, hoping to make it a total of thirteen before the year is out.
It's not even close. Hogwarts Legacy is awesome if you're a Harry Potter fan and/or if you like pissing off internet slacktivists.
But when it comes to Game of the Year or RPG of the Year, no, it doesn't have a prayer. RPG of the Year is absolutely going to Baldur's Gate 3, and Game of the Year is either going to that as well, or Tears of the Kingdom.
Besides, if we nominated whatever made the most money year after year, you might as well call it 'The Mobile Game Awards'.
By the way, if you're wondering what 2023 games I've played:
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Resident Evil 4
- Dead Space
- Diablo IV
- Battlebit Remastered
- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
- Starfield
- Forza Motorsport 8
- Super Mario Wonder
- RoboCop: Rogue City
I'm hoping to make the time for the following before the year is out:
- Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
- Armored Core VI
- Baldur's Gate 3
Haven't touched the game, won't touch the game... still surprised it didn't at least get nominations, I've heard great things about it.
Slacktivists, outrage lovers, and my thoughts on J.K Rowling aside, I'm not interested in the game. Or Harry Potter.
Disclaimer: I used to like that franchise.

Even if it got nominated, it doesn't stand a prayer against the heavy-hitters this year, *and*, even if it did, we all saw what happened last year with the Elden Ring team's acceptance speech; do we really want the devs to get up on stage for their acceptance speech and chance getting mic-bombed by some woke jerkoff because Geoff Keighley doesn't believe in better vetting and security?
Having played Hogwarts Legacy, I have to agree. The game is good. Fun, with a solid story, but I’m not sure it holds up with some of the others that came out this year. I enjoyed it greatly, but…it felt like it lacked, somehow. Or something. Can’t quite put words to it.
That the end of the day, I found the game to be just another open world game.
P.S. I don't brother watching reward shows.
to be fair the game awards winners are determined by 10% audience vote and 90% judge vote. They care what the “influencers” think more than what the actual population thinks.

TIL. Thanks for the info. Screw that show, then.
On the bright side, this is hopefully the last time you'll have to hear people bitching about Hogwarts Legacy on the internet.
Can't speak for Armored Core VI or Baldur's Gate 3, but the Sonic murder mystery should be a quick one.
Really? You think Game of the Year could go to Breath of the Wild again? I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the game, but I didn't think 2023 was a slow year for video games.

True enough, it's up against some amazing content. At the same time, I feel like people played it for 2 weeks before moving on, unlike Baldurs Gate or even Armored Core 6 (I got friends STILL playing those for hours every day)
But to be fair, I've never cared really about awards. Maybe they'll get me to take a closer look at a game but generally I don't even tune in. My tastes run a bit different from most. I still play Space Engineers and other games closing in on 20 years... Hell, I still have Eve Online installed.
