If that's actually Spike, then this could mean we might get to see Ember in G5. She has to be alive even at this point in time.
It has to be intentional. Maybe you could chalk it up to sexual characteristics or different dragon breeds (the other three dragons look female, and have horns and apparently hair, while the Spike lookalike has Spike's characteristic... fins?), but it's not just the color palette that resembles Spike.
Though adult Spike was more buff in The Last Problem. And maybe it's just because of the screenshot, but do they all have to look stoned?
Meanwhile, I've been hearing that the reason we get so little G4 lore in G5 is because Discovery Family owns the rights to much of it, and G5 would have to pay usage fees every time they name drop G4 characters or locations. It would explain a lot.

That's a common issue with a lot of mainstream media series, ownership is not under one roof.
You gotta love the evolution of discourse about the series in the fandom (or, more accurately, the lack of):

I actually thought that this was a picture from some other show (that's not MYM or even MLP in general) until I saw the Mane 5 [+Misty] riding them (they're still the Mane 5 for me, it makes it less confusin')

Yeah, people won’t exactly let your show air on their network for free. And given how much money FiM made, can we really be surprised that someone thought “yeah, we need to get a bigger piece of that pie.” Regardless, this is something that everyone almost certainly knew from the get go (and possibly a major reason why Hasbro didn’t do a reboot), so it changes absolutely nothing.

A little off topic, but has any else noticed that a lot of the designs in G5 look kind of… girly? I mean, obviously the majority of the cast is female and an unofficial selling point of ANG was that they were adding male to the mane cast, but don’t some of the stallions look a little feminine? Some about their eyes and eyelashes, I don’t know.

This is a reminder to literally everybrony, Pegasus Sister, and cool creature in between that MLP is marketed towards little girls.

They are happy to remember it whenever they are mad at MLP, and when they are not they are very quick to forget that.

Yes, it IS actually possible that that one purple dragon COULD be an older Spike - or at least a grown son or grandson (in the "Forgotten" series - both time branches - it would be either son or grandson).
Actually, Flurry Heart travelling the world for a bit to try to find the surviving descendants of the Crystal Ponies and see what happened to the other species might be a good one for that version of the "Forgotten" series. Flurry arriving on the isle of Scaly and meeting some of her Uncle Spike's descendants might make for a beautifully bittersweet touch.
