Basically the Human world's Vinyl Scratch gets caught up in an experiment by Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer (mixing music and magic as separate forces is surprisingly delicate) sending her to the Mortal Kombat universe with magic based around Sound manipulation.

Her only way home is to stand as one of Earthrealms Champions in the tournament between the realms, this time hosted by Earthrealm.

Of course, this being the Mortal Kombat universe, things get a little more complicated than that....
