This was an interesting episode, as we get introduced to Indian-inspired Ponysonas in this episode. So with this one, having a group of ponies being used to identify with a race of people outside your standard caucasian western culture. We have Zebras identified as Africans and the buffalo as native american stand-ins, and I, for one, don't mind them. As the series grew larger with different races of mystical creatures and other equestrians, there seemed to be more world-building within the show; it was cool to see the show becoming more diverse, and I wished it did more to expand on other cultures.
This episode, in particular, focused on two immigrants to Canterlot Saffron Masala and her father chef Coriander Cumin, who are trying to make their restaurant "Tasty Treat" successful. Still, due to conflicts the the ritzy culture, it isn't doing too well. However, both Rarity and Pinkie Pie are here to try to make things better for the two, which then comes into conflict with what they think would make the restaurant successful. Rarity wants them to assimilate to what is popular to get a good review from a food critic, while Pinkie Pie thinks they should express themselves how they are. The conflict does get resolved in the end, with Rarity realizing they just need ponies to give the place a chance outside of what a stuffy critic thinks of it. Overall I liked this episode as it seemed to try to blend Rarity's charm and Pinkie Pie's enthusiasm as they both have different outlooks on how to make the restaurant successful. But they both have the same goal and I enjoyed their antics. I also, really enjoyed the song It's Gonna Work.
You may or may not have noticed that in oine of my stories i sic the Cutie Mark Inspector on the poorly titled "Zesty Gourmand".
