So, basically what this is about is that I don't know if this OC is a Mary Sue or not (In my opinion she isn't, but I'm not good at distinguishing that) Who she is is basically a pegasus named Moonlight Eclipse who can make illusions using a staff, she was a royal guard, and if she's caught in the crossfire of a problem, she will try to deescalate the situation but is she's caught in a battle with, let's say, a hydra, she will rush in without thinking, her best friends are Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, and her and Twilight Sparkle don't like each other. Still, they hold mutual respect for each other, and when push comes to shove, they will fight together. If she is a Mary Sue, can you advise me on how not to make her one?
A Mary Sue is a complicated term that means different things to different people. This article has a good breakdown on some of its history, and a brief index of types of Mary Sue characters.

Generally speaking, the most recurring traits of a Mary Sue are that they force the story to revolve around themselves. They may be impossibly competent, never fail or face hardship, or overcome problems too easily. It's hard to say if a character is a Mary Sue, without seeing what they do in a story.
Why is this character friends with the mane six? Would their story work the same if they had adventures with other OCs? Does this character learn something and grow over the course of the story?
There's lots of questions to be asked, but it's a very subjective thing to judge.

I’m thinking of making her a spy of sorts, so that would answer that. She would probably learn to not be distrustful of new ponies. She would probably have an adventure or two with Zecora, if I can figure out how to write her.
