Shingles.
In my eye.
never before have I had the pressure in my eyes measured, but dear lord that was an experience I don't want again.
But the ophamologist diagnosed me within minutes. I'd had dermatitis last week over half my skull, and it turned out not to be an allergic reaction, but the good ol' zoster virus waking up after 30 years of dormancy.
So now I got me a bottle of the biggest pills I've ever seen, and a reassurance that it wasn't something worse like cancer or degenerative nerves.
thats nice to hear, there is enought tragety and problems in this world as it is. Good luck, take care
I've had Shingles not fun.
Did you get any word on whether the eye will get better?
Shingles in your eye? I did not know that can even happen!
Good to hear things are getting fixed up.
Good luck, and try not to die.

It can, I'm fortunate that I jumped on this as quickly as I did. the doctor was very technical when he was looking at my eyes, but he did mention some scarring on the retina. As of now aside from some persistent spots and a lot of irritation my eye's more or less normal.
And I wasn't joking about the size of these pills. I've never taken 1 full gram pills before.
Never heard of shingles being in the eye before, but im relieved it wasnt cancer or worse, what is the usual treatment? vitamin supplements?

Valtrex. 3/day, the pills are a whole gram.
I go back to the doc in a week, and if I've not improved he's going to put me on steroid eye drops.

That's some tough stuff. Definitely glad it wasn't worse. You should get fully better right? After the treatments you are doing?

supposedly, yes. I did hear them talk about some scarring on the retina but I feel fine. vision in it is normal even though its super red, and I haven't had any more holes in my vision or even any big splotches of color.
Are the pills giving you trouble? Because if it is, I think it's possible to dissolve it in water and just drink it instead?
Med info, Valtrex 1gm
Under point 2 it says that it can be dissolved into a liquid, and 2.3 give instructions for how to do it. It mentions using SSV to dissolve it, but that looks like it's just a means to keep the medicine fresh and homogenous over time. I think you can just use water instead and drink the stuff immediately, but you should absolutely ask a pharmacist.
But if it does turn out to be okay, enjoy your time as a potioneer.

no trouble swallowing them, but yes that was on the massive page of instructions they gave me.
How're the peepers doing? Did they end having to give you more meds, or did things work out?

They gave me steroid drops for my eyes last time, and they are helping, yes. I go in for a final check up tomorrow. Last week the ophthalmologist said I'm improving, but he's real expensive. My symptoms are mostly gone, thank goodness.
Ouch. Get well soon!
How is your eye doing??

final doctor's appointment was two days ago.
mild scarring in the cornea. eye is a bit fuzzy, and there's a chance for the shingles to come back now that I've been weaned off the the medication. So I gotta keep an close eye on it. scary thing is, there was no real pain in the eye before the scarring occured. just suddenly a white hole in my vision. the hole is gone now but I'm also dealing with residual tingling in my scalp from a bit of postherpetic neuralgia, which is mild nerve damage.
