Good news! and a quick story. · 10:39pm Aug 21st, 2023
We are very close to the the goal! I glad to see some things never change.
So here's a story: my ID expired on my birthday which was two months ago.
Last night I went to hang out with some of my friends and one of them was like "do you know you have a warrant out for your arrest?"
And I was like "I kind of suspected, but was afraid to find out."
"Yeah it's $2.500 bail."
That number being clearly beyond what I was capable of providing, I shrug my shoulder and go, "ok, not my highest."
So they drop me off, and I go to bed. I get up at 9:20 AM, 10 minutes before my IOP was supposed to start. I sit in the lounge. Someone asks me why I'm here. I say IOP. I'm put in another chat room. I do my best to not pass out.
At some point I was like "Do I wait for something to happen or... I can't waste time here. I need my ID."
So I put my clothes on and uber 15 miles to the precinct my charges were in. The municipal complex looked like old-timey houses, and there were cops around, so I was a little nervous.
I eventually found the police station, and the nice young lady asked me what I was there for.
"I understand that there's an outstanding warrant for my arrest and I'd like to turn myself in."
She asks me kindly to take a seat. A big barrel chested cop comes out and asks what the charges were for, offering a traffic ticket.
"Trespassing and possession of a controlled substance."
Bewildered, they walk back in to their police office and make a lot of phone calls.
The county clerk comes in, a plain but well-meaning woman, and has a talk with me, indicating my previous issues with obtaining legal representation.
"At this point, I'm better off going pro se just to get this over with."
She asks me if I have any bail money.
"I could probably get you a hundred dollars."
She thinks for a moment, then decides to release me. She promises that I'll be behind bars if I don't show up for my next appearance.
"I promise I'll be there."
I thank everyone for their time and kindness in handling me, then walk out to the sidewalk to hit my vape while waiting for my uber.
A cop car pulls up. He rolls his window down. I had apparently forgotten my ID. Mind you this was after I was labeled a suspicious person by another passing cop before he called the precinct and I got the all clear to stand in a public location.
And that's the story about how I risked jail time rather than wait for unprofessional medical practices.
Huh. How about that.
Also congrats on the goal being so close!
Jesus wept. Glad the goals close tho!
@_@ Good grief. Good news and WTF news!
