State of Author + New Pen Name? · 4:21pm Jun 22nd, 2023
Hi, everyone. Long time, no speak from me. And I apologize for that. Just a couple of quick but important things to say today:
1. Though there's been no new stuff posted here, I've been doing a lot of writing anyway - specifically in the form of my work as editor on Star Trek: Phoenix. We've recently launched the third 'season' (arc) of the story, and things continue to move along nicely. Each chapter clocks in well over 10k words each, and if you know Trek at all then you know there's plenty of work to be done just ensuring we're getting our technobabble correct, not unduly breaking canon basics, etc. But it's a hella fun ride and I'm glad to be able to devote my energies to it.
My own work will still get its due, but that's been my focus. (and please do go check out the story! We've made it accessible even to non-dedicated Trekkies, imo)
2. As the blog title suggests, I plan to change my username here. I've honestly been thinking about this on/off again for years, but never got around to it. But, there's two reasons I wish to make a change:
1)I've been increasing the diversity of my usernames across various online accounts in the last year for better overall privacy. Especially as the remaining social media platforms continue to be overrun by the worst people on the internet looking to "out" people by tracking them down elsewhere.
2)Though I love the Grand Moff character from Star Wars, I've always been more of a Trekkie at heart. So I thought my username should finally reflect that a bit more.
SO! Going forward, my username will be changing to "Vic Fontaine". Eagle-eyed readers will recognize him from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. ;)
Well then, here's to a bit of a fresh coat of paint on the old username, and to continued good health to you all. Hope to see many of you soon-ish at EFNW!
-Vic
This all sounds fair to me. Best wishes with the new penname, and best wishes in general, yeah?
Nice! I’ve been mulling over the same thing regarding usernames. The internet is a scarier place than it used to be, which is really saying something
Now I shall forever picture you with a fantastic singing voice.
See you at Everfree, Vic!

Ha! I don't think even the holodeck protocols can salvage my attempts to carry a tune. At least I can wear a tux pretty decently. xD

Sad, but true these days.
Vic Fontaine? Not Mr. 'Just a Simple Tailor' Garak ?

Hehe. I was tempted by something like that, tbh. But I always had a soft spot for Vic and the role he played, so I had to go with my gut on this one. ;)

Fair enough So many great characters on that show to pick from... I hope they'll remaster it one day
well hey :D
I don't mind the name change at all.
And you will certainly be seeing me at EFNW this year.
Good to hear from you!
Y'know, a name change might not be a bad idea. I am the original Sunburst, after all. Been there on my bio line for years. Maybe I should just make it official.
Ah, this explains the dashing stranger in my feed!
Was good seeing you at the con
