Changes to Deos ex Caellis! · 7:11pm Jun 9th, 2023
Hey everyone, Devona here. In this blog, I would like to talk about my newest story, Deos ex Caellis, a bit. Suffice it to say, I'm toying with the idea of changing the direction the plot is going in. Majorly.
I won't say exactly how yet; that would contain potential spoilers. But... it would be something more risky, more... more divergent from the direction OSaGA went in. I don't really want to create another simple human-pony first contact "franchise" so soon; I would prefer to add some twist to it.
This rework would mean Deos ex Caellis would potentially end up better overall, but would also mean the first chapter might be a little misleading, at least in its current form. Or at the very least the story descriptions might be, although of course they would be changed.
Just to clarify though, yes, the tone of the story would still be similar, and it would still be set in the same setting, with humans and Replicants and everything.
So... do you think I should do it? Why (not)? Please let me know, I'm really relying on the readers here!
Thanks in advance!

I would say how do you feel about it? Whats more thrilling or makes you want to write?
My actual opinion? Go for it!
The only thing that I am hoping its not...is a average slice of life? You know what I mean? Like hero or heroine goes to ponyville and meets the main six...maybe or maybe not gets together with a pony...lives there and meets a cast of three or four background ponies. No drama. Sigh.

Nah, no worries, it's not gonna be anything like that either way.
And I get your worries, I really do. While it's hardly impossible to write a good slice-of-life story, in practice such plots often end up very generic and lacking any sort of engaging conflict. Furthermore, I'm simply not that skilled in said genre, haha.
But anyway, in both possible versions Deos ex Caellis remains an adventure story. In the simplest and most spoiler-free words I can put it... the old concept is about ponykind's diplomatic efforts to survive in the midst of a galactic cold war, and the new concept is about a journey to uncover lost history.
As you can see, they are both vastly different and that's why I'm struggling with the decision.
