So, I like Fallout 3. I assume most, if not all of you, reading Fallout: Lavender Wastelander have done the main quest of Fallout 3. We've all seen the base game. There is a reason why I've changed so much around. Its to give people something new.
I'll be the first to admit, though, that exploring new things and ideas has led me to bloat the fic by a LOT. The story has enough dangling plot threads to look like a bowl of spaghetti. Most of that comes from me trying to make things make sense with Fallout 3's main quest (like how James, a 55 year old man, was able to outpace his son across the entire wasteland, or the origins of the injection Colonel Autumn used to save his life from the radiation burst).
However, there is a method to my madness. To those wondering why I've taken the main Enclave the direction I have. Well, in game, we see that Colonel Autumn was already willing to betray Eden. We also see that the Enclave troops listens to their own propaganda that they send out into the Wasteland, rather than an alternative internal-only propaganda. So if the Enclave grunts were sipping from their own cool-aid for years, many of them probably do think that they're there to genuinely save the Wasteland instead of destroy it, which is why all the human soldiers under Colonel Autumn are so quick to turn on Eden who is the President. While I don't support fascism, I've always felt like the Enclave should have been more like the Fallout 4 version of the Brotherhood of Steel. They should have been a 'not the nice guys/good option', but definitely not moustache-twirlingly-evil Nazis we got in Fallout 3. They could have made a perfect dark mirror to the BoS that has their own valid points but failings in other regards.
Like in Fallout New Vegas with the Legion versus the NCR. The NCR is trying to hard to model itself after the old world government and is rife with corruption, but has some semblance of liberty and personal freedom, while the Legion is a super-efficient empire with little corruption, but is built on the back of slavery with an absolutely atrocious treatment of women.
But whatever theories I could come up with what the ideal BoS vs Enclave conflict would look like is a moot point now that Applejack has been installed into power, and isn't relevant to F:LW
Anyways, I'm genuinely flattered that all of you who read my story have kept up with the over 130k words of insanity I've written this year. Thank you all. I love seeing your comments and theories after I post a chapter. It genuinely keeps me coming back to write.
