So apparently there are a bunch of gamers that are mad that Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is getting 10's nearly across the board, because the game plays in 720p at 30 fps with dips.
Hey, elitist retards: if resolution and frames are that important to you, maybe don't play on a glorified tablet that was already outdated when it released in 2017.
Fucking morons.
That's coming from someone who hasn't even made time for Breath of the Wild yet; the cartridge has been sitting in my Switch case for over three years now.
I'm sorry, I thought we were playing video games, not watching feature-length films in 8k where resolution is absolutely important.

Exactly.
I've got a 4k screen. Know what I'm playing? Mostly games from 2011 and back.
Because Doom is still awesome, no matter what year it is.
Meanwhile, I play every single Switch game on the go, and don't know what I'm missing, lol. Funny thing is, from what I've heard, Switch games actually run beautifully on emulators. Something about Nintendo knowing the Switch's limits and making sure otherwise stunning games don't overwhelm it.
Meanwhile, I'm picking the game up tomorrow, and just looking forward to playing it.
The experience being good is way more important than framerate. 30fps isn't the fastest we can get, I know, but it's perfectly playable. Besides, I thought with Nintendo machines the focus was on innovation rather than brute technical power (they'd tried to win that battle with the Gamecube and lost).
I'd be upset if it was rated 10/10 if it's having performance issues. However I believe "performance" should be taken into consideration when rating games. For example there's a certain new game that's causing issues for even top of the line systems. If you're releasing a game on a system then in my opinion you're obligated to make sure it works properly on said system. (less relevant for PC obviously)
That being said, the only time I run a game on max settings is when my system eclipses the max system requirements. The Switch was NEVER a competitive machine graphically. If people are forgetting that then it's on them not on the devs. 30fps is plenty, I've played PvP games with as low as 16fps and survived just fine.
Hell, I got a clip from Overwatch that's practically a slideshow and it's only down a couple frames from how it was when I played it.

In most cases, if a modern game is ported to the Switch; Witcher 3 for example, my first thought is almost always, "oh what in god's name did they do to it to make it run on that thing?"
Now I own a Switch, it's a great time killer in places where I can't be at my PC, but a game this massive on the Switch, even at 30 fps, should be an achievement.
With the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy getting high marks, I'm wondering if the Switch version will perform well enough.

If the game is ported and it shouldn't be, why should it receive full marks? I mean, the blame lies on the players for demanding ports like that but in the end it's on the companies for agreeing to make said port... poor staff probably get these projects and just weep.

I like the portability, but I'd like Nintendo to return to the GameCube days where they competed graphically with the competition.
Reminds me of that whole debacle going from Monster Hunter World to Monter Hunter Rise. Always disappointing seeing just how many people don't realize that raw graphics are basically the least important thing in what makes a game good and lasting.

It's helps that there is still high quality mods and WADs still being made for the original Doom games.
Anyway, unless it's a really fast pace, a console game doesn't need a high FPS.
This kinda reminds me of how some people get angry whenever a movie trailer isn't in 4k. Sometimes I think people just want something to complain about.

I think they believe they can't compete with MS and Sony on that front so decided to take a different route... and they probably aren't wrong.
But it would be nice if the next system had stats above the competitions previous generation systems.

I have to agree, at least Nintendo still comes across as unique compared to other console makers.
