The excellent Totallynotabrony made a blogpost suggesting music he enjoyed that was lesser known stuff and I figured I'd follow suit (better late than never) though I can't promise my stuff is all that obscure.
Tom Cardy is a musical genius who blew up over the pandemic. He does a blend of comedy and serious songs.
Tim Minchin is another Aussie who does comedy and hartfelt but grew more slowly in fame.
I of course adore Postmodern Jukebox who take modern songs and redo them in classic genres. Two faves
I genuinely think of this before I think of the original
If you like Eighties rock Triumph is a Canadian band that apparently was huge at one point but then kinda vanished
Dan Bull is mostly known for doing hiphop parody stuff but has some solid original tracks too. This one has a hook that will embed itself in your head and never leave
Gordon Lightfoot was a huge part of my life growing up and his passing was devastating to hear. An iconic artists covered many times but never surpassed.
I've heard good things about Saint Josie but haven't listened to her yet.
I don't listen to a ton of music these day but these are ones that run through my brain on the regular or are highly recommended by others.
Feel free to add your own recc here or on Tnab's blog
Postmodern Jukebox is sooo good.
wtf, Saint Josie is that trans lady I saw once being all "Hey, if your voice is deep, don't worry, you're still beautiful" while switching back and forth between perfect male and female voices and I just???

Yee, she's fucking awesome!
Aww, you're going to mention Tom Cardy but you're not going to mention his greatest work?
