Adventures in Equestria Idea: "Nightmare (K)Nights" · 5:45pm Apr 26th, 2023
Though the last Adventures in Equestria set I released, "Hearts and Hooves," doesn't seem to have made much of a splash (0 comments and counting!), I am still rather proud of it--and my brain is giving me more and more ideas to work with now.
One idea that I think might be fun would be to add some of the MLP villains as playable characters: Chrysalis can copy other cards, Nightmare Moon draws strength from Moon and Star symbols, Tirek allows you to "store up" cards for a big bonus, etc. In AiE, each playable character has an oversized card, with a "starting" side (which shows their special ability) and a "flipped" side (after the ability fires, leaving them exhausted).
But I had a silly idea: I realized it could be really funny to make, not just a villain set, but a "Nightmare (K)Night" set. In my head, most of the cards in this set would focus around the Nightmare Night episodes we see in the show. But what would be really funny would be to get the character cards in on it, too: the Starting side of each card shows the villain as they appear in the show, and the Flipped side shows a pony wearing them as a costume. For example, the front of the Nightmare Moon card would show NMM rearing up and cackling in glee... and the back of the card would show Rarity lifting up the costume's head to mop her sweaty brow.
Might undermine the "villain" thing a bit, but could still be funny. Alas, if only I had any actual artistic talent...
Initial Casting (no logic except it amuses me)
- Nightmare Moon: Rarity ("So darkly elegant, Darling!")
- Queen Chrysalis: Rainbow Dash ("She's badass, I'm a badass, what else is there to say?")
- Lord Tirek: Applejack ("C'mon, I'm the only one strong enough to hold up that giant torso a' his!")
- King Sombra: Twilight ("Brainwashing and enslavement aside, Sombra made use of some really clever magic of a sort that I've never seen recorded in a book before. If only I could have talked to him a bit, perhaps I could have...")
- Pony of Shadows: Pinkie ("I've always wanted to be a shapeshifter!")
- Cozy Glow: A plushie held by a terrified Fluttershy ("G-go away!")
Ah, a classic concept. I'm all for it, though I imagine it's going to lead some flavor dissonance.
I know nothing about the game, but I enjoy reading about such. If I had been able to upvote your last post, I would have. I enjoy seeing creative endeavors expressed!
