Progress and Response RE: Wonderbolts Academy · 3:12am Dec 17th, 2012
Hey All:
So I've been asked: Any plans to alter the story to better synch up with the new episode?
The answer is: no. My headcanon still feels pretty safe at this point.
A Wonderbolts aerodrome is still a valid potential structure: The Wonderbolts Academy is obviously not suited for seating crowds.
As to initiation and going to the academy itself, I'm leaning toward "things were different in Spitfire's days." As the Wonderbolts grew (and various other changes and etc.) the Academy was established and recruits were put through screening there instead of an invitation qualifier.
Perhaps this is at least partially a result of bad PR over the Ditzy incident. Perhaps they thought it would work out better for the increased numbers required, or that it would give better members. There are still enough possible maybes and such that I'm not worried.
I must say, though, I was not expecting the militaristic structure of the organization. Fortunately, I've detailed very little to that effect in the story.
On the other side of the coin, this episode has benefited story canonization in two ways:
1. Spitfire is awesome.
2. Cloudshaving is real. At 17:40, Dash spins in orbit around several clouds to pack them densely together (enough to support non-pegasi, which is just... weird. But Equestria cloud physics is like that.) Save for it being done with multiple clouds and her using her arm instead of her wings (so garish), this is pretty much how I envisioned cloudshaving: forcing cloud material into a smaller, super-dense ball.
Discussion and requests for elaboration welcome!
In other news, finals week is over, so I'm getting back up to speed on writing. Currently: 80% done with part 8. Hope to finish the writing this week, but due to holidays upload date is uncertain.
No spoilers, but....
Ditz and Spitz Part Eight: Reunion.
That is all.
