    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Taking a break... · 3:09pm Mar 31st, 2023

My writing motivation is a bit low right now in the wake of the big push I put on the last couple chapters, and I’m not finding the desire to continue with C&C at the moment except in very small segments. So maybe it’s just best to step away from it and focus on other things for a bit. But I did want to welcome new readers aboard and thank everyone who left feedback, which I always appreciate. It was another successful release and the story continues to accumulate new tracks with likes being a lagging indicator.

In fact, looking at the story right now, it just topped half a million words. Wow. That’s already enough for two or three novels, and maybe someday I’ll turn it into not-for-profit deadtree works for folks to enjoy. I’d get a kick of knowing that it’s sitting on bookshelves if nothing else. I could see this being a quadrilogy of books, if that’s a word, each focusing on one of four distinct story arcs. We’re on the third now, before anyone asks.

Part of the problem is that I’m now missing a non-clop option for my works that used to be filled by Firefly. That could mean it’s time to start a new Firefly installment, but I really shouldn’t be taking on new writing assignments right now when the objective is to finish what I’ve got, especially with regards to Unleash the Magic. Folks might be interested to know that I’m also getting renewed requests for a continuation of the Turnabout Storm/The Lawyer and The Unicorn series, which is flattering but would again be an enormous commitment of time when I’ve already got a lot on my plate.

Unfortunately, my priority right now has to be on finishing more of what I’ve got. Sure wish I could get paid for all this, but there’s just not many real options unless I want to open myself to commissions more, which delays my other works. Nevertheless, if you’d like to drop your author even a minor token of your esteem, feel free to send me a few bucks via PayPal at firesight72@hotmail.com. Call it a gift, and there’s no tax on it.

Taxes. That reminds me. I still have to do mine before April 15th. Best take care of that this weekend... <groans> But if the weather’s good, maybe I’ll find something fun to do by going shooting again.

Looking forward to updates when they eventually come up. :yay:

Stay healthy and don't burn yourself up :pinkiesad2:👍

It’s not easy to keep up the momentum. Sometimes a break helps me and sometimes I have to proverbially slap the focus back into me. Hope you find what you need.

Take as much time as you want and try to relax a little bit. We can wait for a new chapter whenever you feel good.

I'm also really excited about the prospect of getting the third instalment of Firefly (again, when you feel ready to write it).

I really hope you will be able to get back to writing soon. If you're lucky you ight get enough energy to get closer to finishing something.

Any one-shot ideas you may want to explore? Smaller stories can be a great way to shake things up.

hope you'll be successful with taxes and that your health improves!
enjoy your writing vacation, i'll know that people with a drive for something can't stay away for long from the things they love.

Yep, that’s the problem. And the longer you’re away from it, the harder it is to get back in mental gear for it. :alsjeepy: Muses are notoriously fickle things, and the best way I’ve found to use them is to work on what they want even if it wasn’t what you originally planned to do.

I will do as the Doctor orders!

Can’t say when that will be, but thanks.

Good question. I don’t really have any ideas for that right now, except for a furry one-shot on a different site. Couldn’t post it here, though.

Not sure how successful you can really be with them, but I’ll do my best!

As long as they’re loving it, yes. It’s when it starts turning into a chore that it becomes an issue.

When it becomes a chore, it means you're no longer enjoying it.
