Celestia: "I miss the good old days. Remember when we fought Cthulhu, Luna?"

Luna: "Oh yes. Now that was a battle!"

Celestia: "Just you, me, him, thousands of miles of open ocean... Except for that island."

Luna: "What island?"

Celestia: "Exactly. Oh that was a real fight! He broke my legs and my neck and nearly broke my mind!"

Luna: "I still remember how I had to multi cast those psychic reinforcement spells every microsecond or he'd have gotten us!"

Celestia: "Oh! Remember dropping Meteor on him?"

Luna: "Which time? I did it several times!"

Celestia: "Oh they were all great! Have you any idea how long it's been since I tasted my blood in my mouth? Those were the days."

Luna: "Verily..."

Both sigh. They have made a peaceful world where justice and love prevail. But it's a bit dull.

Celestia: "What do we do now...?"

Luna: "... Pester our apprentices for grandfoals to spoil?"

What do the sisters do in their retirement?

Celestia: "Idea! Why don't we manipulate a cult into releasing him?"
Luna: "Well, it's worked the other eight times...what the heck, I'm in!"

You'd think after the first four or so, he'd stop answering when the cultist call him. But apparently even eldritch abominations can suffer from poor pattern recognition.

Who is lunas apprentice?

One idea I've posited is Celestia going to visit Sunset and couch-surfing her way across human Canterlot until the entire town is sick of her post-retirement blues, her counterpart included.

As for Luna, I imagine she still keeps busy with watching over dreams and possibly training successors in that fine art. Though I could certainly see her touring the world and looking for skulls to crush in the name of righteousness.
