The Last Wish CRUSHES Disney · 9:32pm Mar 5th, 2023
If Dreamworks keeps making films like "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish", while Disney keeps doubling down on lazy remakes and dull woke garbage, Dreamworks will become the NEW Disney. Dreamworks is where Disney was in roughly 1990, fresh off a new success and pushing for GOOD animation.
But Dreamworks took it to a whole different level with this film. This is Dreamworks' "The Lion King". It's a MASTERPIECE. Everything about it, from the animation, to the story, to the characters, the themes... it was all done to perfection, along with a trio of villain/antagonists who spanned the gamut of villain archetypes and all were fantastic. But Death was done in the best way of all, an antagonist who DEFEATS the main character at first by forcing him to acknowledge his weaknesses and fears, having him grow throughout and learn to value something more than he did. And Death is also somewhat engimatic. Was forcing Puss to value his final life what he wanted all along? We can't know, but it's certain Death could have taken him any time he wanted, so it's plausible.
And Jack Horner... my god, he was like the Lord Freeza of fairytale land, the absolute personification of the villain you love to hate, hilariously pure evil and reveling in every second of his wickedness.
Then there was Goldie and the Bears, the redeemable villains who weren't truly bad even from the start, as they were presented at being very awkward at the 'evil' thing, and seemed mainly driven to make Goldie happy. And when we find her reason for wanting the wish, it has nothing to do with power or riches at all; and it turns out to be something she always had... and that is SHOWN to the audience throughout the film.
It's all done that way. We're shown everything we need to know about the characters, it's demonstrated rather than being wall-of-text explanation. The only thing that IS explained is the Wishing Star McGuffin, but that works because the star ends up being barely important save as the 'goal' for everyone, the motivation driving their actions. But the STORY is all about who they are, what their dreams are, and for most of them save Horner, great character growth.
It's a perfect animated film, the first Western animated film to fully impress me in quite some time.
ABSOLUTELY recommend seeing it, then buying a hard copy for posterity. It's one I will enjoy watching again and again.
And insisting on making each movie both, which goes even more poorly than the two would individually.
The last wish was amazing, beyond what I expected.
Fuck Disney. For a myriad of reasons. That is all.
May the mouse burn.
And throw Iger and Kennedy on the pyre as well.
5716800 I'm simply astounded at how much attention and care was given to absolutely every detail, as well as the incredible creativity in each scene.
5716813 I shall push the button and release Harvey!

While I would dearly love to see both Disney and Hollywood (and maybe Capital Hill as well) crumble under the rage of an Eldritch god, we both know he wouldn't stop there and I haven't moved to South Jersey yet to make sweet, sweet love with the Pine Barrens, so if you could just hold off on pushing that big, shiny, oh-so pressable button until that happens, I would be much appreciative.
5716855 Weeeeeeellllllll... ok, I guess I can wait a few months more until the "Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts" anime finishes.
But after that, APOCALYPSE TIME!!

That's fair

It's of note I can't tell if that's porn or not.
Japan! It's what happens when you're nuked twice
5717737 Sadly, it's not. BUT THE DOUJINS WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT!! (such a perv...)
Here! Here!
I say let Disney die the cruel death it asked for with its woke ideology. May it end on the same dustheap as communism and facism.
