The Conclusion to Shadows Cast Over the Sunset · 9:33am Mar 4th, 2023
Hey everyone!
So, as I've hinted many times: Shadows will be coming to an end in Act VII Part III. This has been planned for a LOOOONG time, and it's been a long time getting here. Hell, I anticipated the story actually being done by 2019, and here we are in 2023. I've slowed down a lot as you all know due to life issues and having so much more on my plate than I did back in 2017 (such as going through a divorce, moving to another country, etc.)
These days, I still have a lot on my plate, and some days I'm lucky if I can write down even 888 words for Shadows, but that's just how it goes.
I intended to get the next chapter out about a week ago, but I was in the hospital unexpectedly so that slowed things down a little bit. I was also stuck in Malaysia for 3 days longer than I originally intended a week or so before that, so there have been some delays. Between random things, Farschule, German classes, work, and working on my youtube channel, it's hard to find time to write, but I do try to squeeze it in, ultimately that's why I stopped doing weekly releases because it was just not feasible anymore, especially since the average chapter now is around 9,000 words, not the 5-6k they were when I first started.
That being said, the next chapter is coming along, and it'll be out probably in the next few days if not today.
So what happens when the story ends? That's the question.
2023 is definitely going to be the final year for Shadows. I mean I can't just keep doing this forever, can I? I anticipate it may take around 4-9 months for all the remainder of the story to be posted. When that is done... I will be retiring from writing fanfiction. But before I do that, I intend to do a big master edit sweep where I go and clean up any typos, mistakes, etc. in the story and then I am going to compile it into a series of ebooks and finally get a printed copy for myself. If there is demand, I might make a printed copy available to others, and it'll include a lot of behind-the-scenes author's notes for people to enjoy if that happens, maybe.
How many chapters are left? I can't say for sure. I already have an epilogue written for the story that will go up the day after the final chapter is posted.
It's been super great working on the story, and it's evolved so much from my original idea, and it's cool that people are still reading it all these years later. I intend to archive it somewhere so that people who want to save it long after this site is gone will have the opportunity to do so. But yes, this will be my last story on this site, I just don't have time to keep writing fanfiction, it's been a fun hobby but I have to think about the future.
I love all of my fans who have read any of my work, from when my stories were absolute trash and cringy up to now where they're... Slightly less trash and cringy!
While this is the end, it's not over yet, let's enjoy the final time we have for the story. I will answer any questions people have while the story is ongoing to the best of my ability, and we'll go out with a bang.
