Sigh.
I'm tired, boss.
One of my bucket list items for 2023 was to make it to a Halo LAN event, after having such an entertaining time watching them on Twitch last year.
With the roadmap that was just released tonight, that won't be happening. I passed on getting tickets to the Major in Charlotte, NC because I figured it was going to take me a little longer than that to get the travel money together, and I was pretty sure that there would be something a little closer than a nine-and-a-half hour drive.
Nope. The Charlotte Major will be the closest one. There will be one in Salt Lake City, the World Championship in Seattle, and three out of five will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Yeah. Three out of five LAN events are in the same metropolitan area.
No international events this year. No crowdfunding contributions for prize pools this year.
All this proves is HCS is just as tone deaf and clueless as the rest of whoever is left at 343, and that the Halo Esports scene is a very, very pale horse.
Guess that travel money will go elsewhere. Maybe towards Extra Life 2023.
Take that travel money and do your own LAN party with whoever is willing to show up. Doesn't need to be big names, just do a big party with friends. Do it long enough and it will grow.
For a major game franchise, that's fucking stupid.

Yup, exactly.

I second this idea
