I've been thinking of making a hurt/no comfort story · 9:58am Jan 14th, 2023
So, if anyone knows me well, they should know I am a sucker for romance and happy endings. Even my horror story oneshot had a good ending because it was hard to imagine a bad ending. What can I say? I want what's best for the characters I am writing about. And, as the Emperor of Sundagio, I always want what is best for Sundagio. (That should be evident since I literally made a story where the two of them get back together after breaking up XD)
With that being said, I have been thinking of a pretty depressing story idea recently. It would be another multi chap story, so I probably won't be able to get to it until after A Dazzling Trio. This story idea of mine involves magic manipulation and the end of the story leaves off on a note that makes the audience question whether the main character will have the strength to keep going. There would be slightly fluffy moments in the middle, so there would be light tones of hurt/comfort, but the ending is supposed to be bad enough that it would negate all of that and make this story a hurt/no comfort. Unfortunately, I can't give too many details, but the ending I have in mind risks making quite a few people mad about how sad it ends.
So, I guess that begs the question "Is it worth making a story that you know some people will hate?" I know writing is for myself and not all stories will appease everyone, but I guess I wonder whether or not my conception of a meaningful story would be overshadowed by people's hate for how it ends.
