    Hiatus

I had really hoped I wouldn't have to write this. I was actually on track to get the last chapter of SH out in time, as well as a few other things (commissions) which I needed to write. I was finally getting back into my groove after a visit from my dad which had completely halted my productivity. Then my dad decided to come back down and visit again for Christmas, and I haven't written anything

Potential Ministry of Image EH Publishing!!!

Throughout my career I have prescribed to a certain ideal: that as an author I should not bother you, my audience, unless I also have some content to provide. That's what you follow me for, after all. I never want to give you guys a notification from me if there isn't also a toasty new chapter for you to read. And I have stuck by that for a long time.

I had really hoped I wouldn't have to write this. I was actually on track to get the last chapter of SH out in time, as well as a few other things (commissions) which I needed to write. I was finally getting back into my groove after a visit from my dad which had completely halted my productivity. Then my dad decided to come back down and visit again for Christmas, and I haven't written anything since.

Those of you who hang out in my Discord will likely have heard of my dad by now. For the rest of you, I don't really feel like going into details. Suffice to say, his presence is superbly disruptive. I just can't get anything done when I'm spending multiple hours a day, across consecutive days, arguing about whether or not the moon is too far away for the human eye to see. This is not hyperbole.

And now my time is up. On Saturday I'm packing up my computer and putting it in a storage unit, and on Monday morning I'll be at the USAF recruiter's office with a bag of clothes, paperwork, and a notebook to journal in. Tuesday I'll be on a plane to San Antonio, where I'll begin basic training for the United States Space Force.

Unfortunately, I won't be getting any writing done there, either.

I should graduate BMT in early March, after which I'll have my technical training in Space Systems Operations in California. I should be able to start writing again at that point, but we'll see how much time I have. I know you guys aren't unfamiliar with overly long gaps between chapters, but this time I felt like giving you a heads up. I'll be marking SH as On Hiatus until I can return.

Don't worry, I'm not abandoning it. I know pretty much every author who abandoned a story ever has said that, but there's no world where I abandon this one. I've said it before; I started writing this story purely to prove that I could finish one, with the intent of going into original fiction afterwards. And I'm already past the halfway point, so it'd be a bit silly for me to quit now, innit? Perhaps military life will even help me get words out at a more reliable, disciplined pace.

Oh, also, we won the vote for the Ministry of Image printing! They're working on it now. So you've got that to look forwards to.

For those of you subscribed to my Patreon, I'd recommend you unsubscribe. Uncle Sam will be paying me plenty and handling almost all of my needs. Save your money, or spend it on someone who needs it more. I appreciate it, but I'll still be writing even without it.

I might get a chance to touch my phone a few times during basic, and if so then you know I'll be checking my FimFic for comments. Comments are, as always, precious to an author.

I'll be around to respond to comments for a couple more days. Otherwise, I invite you to join my Discord to hang out with other readers in my absence. You won't be able to see much at first! Most of the channels are hidden to newcomers.

See you around, space cowboy.

Wishing you all the best for the future! And looking forward to your eventual return!

Good luck with basic training!

It’s all good my dude. Good luck with training

Can't wait to look sadly back on this post when Gold is killed in a tragic space leak while doing stress inoculation training in the space chamber

I just can't get anything done when I'm spending multiple hours a day, across consecutive days, arguing about whether or not the moon is too far away for the human eye to see. This is not hyperbole.

Oh, it absolutely is too far away. That thing that we all look up at and call the Moon was put in place by NASA during the 1970s, replacing the aging and long-unserviced model originally made and positioned by Jules Verne (he used a lot of balloons). It's meant to serve as a planet-scale nightlight when the Sun is powered down for its required daily maintenance.

Silly-ass theories deserve silly-ass answers :pinkiehappy:.

Good luck, dude!

Ngl I’m interested as to what basic for the space force would consist of

After this experience, I’m sure that you will become even more experienced and wise than before. Thus, you will be able to make an even deeper mark in your tales.

Good luck on the training, and we will be eagerly waiting for your return.

The green-skinned alien female might look human, but she's not. Don't assume that all of the parts match up, or are used for what you think they're used for.

If you see a giant leathery egg in a room containing an ancient corpse with its chest blown out, leave it the fuck alone. If you absolutely must mess with it, confine your interactions to setting it on fire.

Arcade machines are a potential recruitment tool for interstellar military organizations. If you're going to play on one, make sure you're either really good or really bad at whatever the game is, depending on your willingness to be recruited.

Check your tether. Then check it again. And one more time after that.

If you're sent to check out the unexpected return of a long-vanished spaceship, and you start seeing/hearing shit that's just not right? LEAVE. Or you might learn whether or not you actually do need eyes where you're going.

Basic, I can't imagine it being much different from the air force.
A little bit of PT, some EXTREMELY basic firearm training, appointment after appointment, and a lot of time spent being taught how to march straight. If it's anything like the air force, the hardest part about it is all in your head if you allow them to get in there.

After that would be technical training, and I got no clue how the space force will do it. Probably 3 months of playing galaga.
