Notes on Calico Driftwood and My Namesake's Origin

Here's some background music. I'll be going on a bit of a tangent, so you may be here a little while. ()^_^

The chapter with Levi Vs. Calico is coming up pretty soon. There are some notes on the latter that are too lengthy for me to share at the end, so I'm going to lay them out here instead.

    Status Update, April 2024 Edition

Part of my slowness in writing M.L.G.'s latest chapter is for the usual reasons: tiredness, minor depression, having other things on the mind, that sort of thing. However, in what can only be described as "whimsy", I've recently decided to complete a list of all of the intentional shout-outs and references in the story as of the most recent chapter.

    Something To Think About

I have a message to share with prospective authors. If you go into writing a story---be it as a living, or just for fun---don't automatically assume that what you're doing is wholly original.

    Tired, Running On Empty

That pretty much summarizes my mental state of the past few days. Constantly tired (half due to not getting enough sleep and half due to my walking regimen), and I can't really think of things I want to write for the story. You know you're having trouble finding things to talk about when your brain fishes for tuna, but ends up with guppies instead.

M.L.G. Character Profile: Agent #4, Statuette · 2:15pm Dec 19th, 2022

Name: Statuette

Species: Female pegasus

Approximate Age: Late twenties

Coloration: Snow white coat and mane, lime green eyes

Cutie Mark: A crystalline rapier wreathed in ice

Special Talent: Unknown

Accessories/Clothing: A white-and-teal figure skating uniform on the job; a glittery white bracelet off the clock

Approximate voice: The Ace Attorney series' Dahlia Hawthorne. Unlike Cocoa's William Afton voice, this really isn't ominous.

General Description: A professional figure skater based out of Vanhoover. Fought long and hard to reach the top of her profession. As noted in her dossier, she makes triple axels look flawless. Feels that ponies need to actively support each other as a species, a belief that Cocoa Mocha played on to get her to dislike Celestia and join his inner circle. Periodically donates money to causes she feels are worthy. Has a cold disposition towards strangers and anypony who isn't a fan of hers, though ultimately she means well.

Like virtually every pony, she has her quirks. She became fascinated with swords after her Cutie Mark manifested, and even trained with one as a hobby in the hopes that she would receive one of her own--a wish that came true after Cocoa's team presented her with a rapier modeled after her Mark. In addition, she never leaves Vanhoover without a jar or two of Grand Pear's jam products, and always eats sandwiches made with said jam for lunch everyday.

So, she's not evil. She was just tricked. Huh, makes me wonder if Cocoa Mocha ever cares about anyone. I did read some stories that some ponies became afraid of Celestia after what she did to Luna. But I do think you have a different reason. Still, It doesn't sound like Leviathan is going to have too much trouble. I mean, if Statuette fights with her rapier, then Leviathan will have some way to match. I mean, think of all the times she fights Zero. Maye her training with Harpuia will help her.

Cocoa's misguided everyone in his inner circle (aside from Ignition) to some degree, though obviously their moral codes vary from one individual to another. He does actually care about the well-being of his grandchildren, though not necessarily for the reasons one might expect.
