Tell Your Tale: A Swing and a Misty

    My inner shipper is squealing.

If you've wanted Alphabittle, Haven, and their respective kids to become a new family unit, this episode is for you.

Did anyone actually ask for this?

So apparently Playtonic is remastering Yooka-Laylee.

Who asked for this? Who thought this was a good idea?

    A few things, Playtonic:

    1. This game is only seven years old.

Will try and get an update or two out soon, but...

...These next two weeks at work are going to be stressful as hell.

I just have to say one thing, just to get it off my chest.

If any of my readers are private health inspectors with standards higher than local laws, I just have this to say:

    That is all.

    Good night.

    Tell Your Tale: P + P = BFFs

This week, we've got a... Somewhat touching Posey episode?

Think this would benefit from a longer runtime. I also laughed harder than necessary at Izzy in the very beginning.

Make Your Mark: Winter Wishday · 12:53am Nov 22nd, 2022

Warning: Winter Wishday Spoilers Below!!!

Okay, where was that megaphone... Ah, here we go.

*ahem*

The 45-minute specials need serious work.

If you're going to do a slice-of-life episode where absolutely nothing of consequence happens, that belongs in a 22-minute slot. Not 45.

This also completely contradicts last week's TYT episode.

The only caveats we got was they noticed the Marestream can seat six ponies (coughcoughMistycough), and that unicorns can verbally cast spells completely by accident now. I honestly preferred Starlight's latin spells, but each to their own.

Bring on the next cluster of episodes, because, well, I need more Opaline and Misty, and I also need the story to move forward, because here, again, nothing happened.

Yeah probably nothing major is happening but it was a pretty cute holiday special and I kind of like it

I agree. It felt like it was about 75% complete and needed some major fleshing out, and felt like the heads at Hasbro said, "It's for kids and basement dwellers. Good enough. Send it out!"

They said that the tree would glow but the only thing that glowed was the crystals. Underwhelming af

Idk why they didn't keep to the format which gen 4 proved worked. A two episode season opener that sets out the overaching plot (friendship letters, friendship journal, keys, etc), 22 episodes that varied from slice of life to single episode adventures, ending with a two part finale that serves as a conclusion for the plot set out in the premiere. This batch format is one that only really works in shows that are plot heavy and are meant to be viewed as long movies more than a season of television.

In my opinion, this special was absolutely amazing, just like the rest of G5. More on this in my upcoming G5 defense video, which now includes Winter Wishday.

It's mostly done for the quick turnaround. Netflix does this with alot of animated shows so that you only have to wait a few months for new episodes instead of waiting an entire year or more.

Yeah, to be fair, the year hiatus for FiM was nearly unbearable.

This also completely contradicts last week's TYT episode.

A lot of things in MYM contradict TYT. So what’s your point?

Well, if they didn't know that the lantern was going to transform it, it didn't really make it a good surprise if they didn't know it would get them to where they were going faster.

New merchandise was revealed right before Christmas, what do you mean nothing happened :p

I don't spend money on the stuff, but Hasbro is basically can we make it into a toy and sell it kind of company

Eh, I get where you're coming from, but I enjoyed it.
It was a fun Christmas special, with a bit of world building for the individual pony tribes and some character background development for Hitch and Sunny.

Also coz of your Forgotten story, when I saw the Wishing Tree I immediately went to it secretly being Twilight's Castle overgrown.

Imo, it was ok but not as exciting as how chapter 2 was. :applejackunsure:

But was it as bad as the standalone chapter 1?

No. This one looked better, and had better characterization.

I'm thinking that maybe I was a bit too harsh last night.

Except Sunny's baking song. That was lazy.

The animation was a ton better than the first special. I don't know if they have a bigger budget or have just figured out how to make things look better with what they have, but it's a major improvement

I honestly wasn't expecting anything of consequence to happen story-wise, so I wasn't disappointed in that regard.

The songs were good, though I thought opening with a Pegasi song about Wishentine was odd, since we started in Maretime Bay.

I've been watching clips of it online, and it seems like it has a few story beats with potential, but never went anywhere with them. Really, the biggest takeaway seems to be unicorns learning a little more about the spells and incantations they're capable of. (Pity it kind of undercuts G4's pegasus weather manipulation).

I can also imagine unicorns using both greetings to sort of fine tune how much snow they want to get. Think of it like Twitch Plays Pokémon, except they're playing with the weather.

It actually contradicts within itself. In the TYT episode we see them doing the make-over of the old tram, and it still looked rubbish until the Deus-Ex Lantern just happened to float in and completely transformed it. They tested it out and knew it could fly stably, and that the lantern was the key to it all.
At the beginning of the MYM episode, Sunny was wondering how they'd be able to attend each celebration all in the same day, and Izzy and Zipp (team zippzzy ship name confirmed) exchanged knowing looks. This indicates that they knew their recent project with the help of the lantern would solve the issue. Yet, when the reveal was made they acted like if the hunk of junk was the final product, and acted kinda surprised when the lantern was put in its place.
