I Should Have Updated During the Autumnal Equinox · 5:09pm Nov 10th, 2022

What's poppin', scamps?

Yes, I'm alive - in a mad hatter and somewhat duller sense than before way - but who bloody cares? I seem to have a rolling stone problem. You see, I stick around for a few months, then I spread my wings and migrate. No, seriously. I'm being dead serious. I have some sort of intangible compass that leads me back here during the same month I went MIA. I wouldn't say "missing," actually. I'm sure even those hard of hearing could hear me screaming about my dusty blueprints that got a fresh layer of paint.

The fumes wafting from 'em are ghastly, by the way. That's what I get for trying to paint the town red.

Yes, I'm being cryptic. I'm not doing so to pull reverse psychology on you. Not at all. Those that are curious may stay - others may leave - some may stick around for the tirades or the revelations I've schemed. Perhaps some of you may be inspired by the upcoming literary armageddon. Or not. Listen, I'm no historian or philosopher, hell - if I had to pick one, I'd set my sights on Diogenes. But, I enjoy finding little nuggets throughout history that enamel these shiny schools of thought in my smooth brain. I like arguments that aren't clear-cut, and I like characters that are two sides of the same coin. Let's explore one of the only brightly shining wrinkles in my glass brain for a moment. Thankfully, it's rather transparent.

My brain is like a knotted ball of earphones, so I'm going to give it to you straight. Not so recently, I stumbled upon a little entanglement theory. You see, the "two sides of the same coin" idiom sprouted from the seed of this theory. Well, for me, it did. Take none of this literally. Entangled particles seem to show opposite sides, despite being quantum mixtures of both heads and tails. So, two people looking at the same coin, have two different stories. One says, "heads" on one side of the universe, and the other swears it's tails. So, who is right? Both, I guess. Or something. I'm not licensed in astrophysics or quantum mechanics. So, don't go chasing waterfalls hoping to find that revered parallel dimension.

Anyway. My little brain teaser is more of an ethics question - one about two individuals seeing two sides - on one single coin. I won't label anyone as a hero, a villain, or even a protagonist. You'd think while reading most stories, the perspective of the narrator can be trusted. It's an organic source, is it not? Why would the main character lie? Hm? Unless they lied to themselves, hm? I don't want this world to be that simple. Black and white are just so...boring. I like when character morals are tested and crossed, or when their egregious actions fail to serve the good heart they swear they have. I want a story told from two different eyes. Both are victims. Both are villains. Both of them become heroes. Both of them lose, both of them win, some may die, or perhaps they'll live.

Or maybe not.

Perhaps I'm lying to you. After all, I'm the one pulling the strings - right?
