Just thinking about cloppish sort of writing, and I think the less the mechanics of the sex are described, the better it is, weirdly. In Clavel's Shogun novels they call whoring 'the willow world'. It's a place of dreams, far removed from the actual thing that is happening with the sex.

On the contrary, it is also correct to refer to a foreleg as an arm, so "arm in arm" would already be fine.
