Chapter 1: Friendship Isn't Enough

Chapter One: Friendship Isn’t Enough

It was just another normal autumn day for Applejack as she lay underneath her beloved apple tree. She wondered why her best friend wasn’t with her. She was never late for Applejack. Sure, she didn’t have the best reputation for being on time. But when it came to Applejack, she was always, no matter what, always there sharpish, if not early.

So where was she?

“Ah reckon yer from around these parts?” a voice said from beside Applejack, harshly exaggerating her accent.

“Well there you are,” Applejack said. “Where the hay have you been?” She stood, gazing at the cyan Pegasus who lay under the tree next to her. She would have noticed if her eyes had been open.

“I was doing what I do best,” the pony said.

Applejack raised an eyebrow. “Sleeping?” she joked.

The pony scoffed. “Good one, AJ!”

Applejack joined her laughter.

Applejack’s best friend, the Pegasus, whose name was Rainbow Dash, was definitely classified as a tomboy. She loved jokes, adventure, pranks, flying (from which she hoped to make it into the elite flying team, the Wonderbolts), and sleeping. Her coat was cyan, and her mane and tail were rainbow. She was the fastest young flier in all of Equestria, thus promoting her name, Rainbow Dash.

“No,” Rainbow Dash finally said once they finished laughing. “I was practicing my signature moves for the Wonderbolts.” She grinned, spreading her wings after standing, puffing out her chest.

“Well, ah think that’s just dandy, sugarcube,” Applejack replied. She sat down against the tree. “So, what are yer plans for today?”

Rainbow Dash thought. “Actually, I don’t really have any.”

This somewhat disappointed Applejack. Neither of them had anything planned. Maybe Applejack would finally get the chance to –

“Hey, AJ,” Rainbow Dash said, bringing Applejack back into reality.

Applejack shook the fantasy out of her mind. “Yes, sugarcube?”

“We’re friends, right?” Rainbow asked.

“Rainbow, what kinda question is that? Yer mah best friend,” Applejack replied.

Rainbow nodded. “And you know I wouldn’t do anything to ruin that, right?”

A trace of a blush danced on Applejack’s face. “Ah-ah know. Thank you,” she said quietly.

Rainbow wondered why Applejack was acting so odd.

A moment of silence.

An idea hit Applejack like a baseball bat.

“Ah wanna show ya something,” Applejack said. They both stood, and Rainbow Dash followed Applejack as she led her through the woods.

Little did Rainbow know that Applejack would do the one thing she least expected.

Author's Note: I know this chapter isn't very long, but bear with me. Most of the chapters are very short, I must warn you. I like constructive critisism, so please comment!

Disclaimer: I don't own My Little Pony. Hell, I don't even have any of the action figures.

Whatever.

Chapter 2: Skittles?

Applejack led Rainbow Dash through the woods, while a hint of blush showed in her face underneath her amber orange fur. As many times as she dreamed about Rainbow Dash, she didn't think she would get the chance to do this so soon.

Rainbow groaned. "AJ!"

Applejack braced herself for the in evitable impact of Rainbow's complaints.

"We've been walking for ages! where are we even going? My legs are getting sore. Do you even know where we're going? Are we almost there?"

Before Rainbow could go on, Applejack turned quickly to her and glared. "If ya'll would simmer down, ah could probably tell ya." They kept walking.

Rainbow wasn't hazed. "This place better be awesome enough for me to walkthis long. I mean, I normally fly everywhere. I can't fly when there are--"

A branch from a nearby tree smacked her in the face. "Branches everywhere."

Applejack sighed and turned to Rainbow. A look told Rainbow that Applejack was about to lose it.

"Heh...sorry," Rainbow said half-heartedly.

Moments later, they both realized that Celestia's sun was setting, and Luna's moon was rising.

"We're here," Applejack said. It wasn't much, she had to admit. It was a clearing in the middle of a group of large tree. The hole in the canopy above let the moonlight shine through. The only reason that Applejack chose this spot was that, even though she was never good with romantic subjects, she knew that from the books that she had read in Twilight's library, this sort of scene definitely set a romantic mood.

Rainbow Dash laughed.

"What's so funny 'bout that, now?" Applejack asked, confused.

Rainbow stopped. "You were kidding, right?"

Applejack ignored her and slowly took off her own hat, stepping into the moonlight for effect. "Rainbow," she started nervously, "ah need to talk ta you."

Rainbow's expression suddenly became concerned. "Why? Is everything okay? What happened?"

She was surprised by what Applejack said next. "Ah-ah love you, Rainbow Dash."

Rainbow froze. "Um...I..."

Immediately, Applejack panicked. "Rainbow, if you don't wanna reply, ah totally understand. Ah just don't wanna lose our friendshi-"

She ws cut off by Rainbow Dash, and she was too dumbstruck to think of anything else except for how Rainbow's lips tasted like Skittles.

Author's Note: Like I said, these chapters are short. I'll try to make them longer, though. This is only the first story in the series, so be sure to read the sequel when I post it!

Disclaimer: My Little Pony is owned by someone I've never met. If I had money, I would definitely buy it off them. But I don't have money. I don't even have a car.

I don't really care.

Chapter 3: Sleepless Nights

Rainbow lay in bed, not able to sleep from that night's events. She couldn't believe Applejack's sexuality, let alone her feelings for Rainbow. It was a good thing that Rainbow took the risk and kissed her. She could see it in AJ's eyes; she loved Rainbow. Rainbow didn't notice it before, and she wasn't sure about AJ even now. Maybe AJ was just confused--

Rainbow shook that thought out of her head. Though she wouldn't admit it to anypony, she had a crush on AJ ever since she could remember. And now that she kissed her...

She rolled out of her bed. How could she sget her much-needed rest with a night like tonight? Ony pony came to mind that held that answer.

---

Applejack stared at the stars, in shock from the massive spark she received from Rainbow Dash's kiss. It's like Rainbow read her mind. Applejack would've gotten to it first, she was about to. But Rainbow Dash, the fastest young pony in Equestria, had to be first. Applejack was thankful for that, for once.

A crunch in the leaves nearby made Applejack spring to her hooves. "Who's there?" she yelled.

Silence.

"Ah know yer there! Show yerself!"

Seconds later, a yellowish pegasus with a pink mane came into view. She wore her mane covering one eye innocently. She wore a shy look, staring at the ground. "Hello, Applejack," she said ever so quietly.

Applejack softened up a bit. "Fluttershy, ah almost bucked you halfway to Canterlot!"

"Oh," Fluttershy replied almost silently.. "I'm sorry, Applejack. I didn't mean to startle you."

Fluttershy was such a sweet little mare. She cared for animals when they were ill or injured. So why was she here?

Applejack smiled. "S'alright, sugarcube. What are ya doin' out here?" she asked, calming down.

"Oh," Fluttershy looked at the ground, digging at the dirt with one hoof. "Well, you see, this bunny I was taking care of has a family burrow around here. I was just in the area when I heard you and Rainbow Dash talking, then when i got here--"

"Wait, you saw..." Applejack let herself trail off.

Fluttershy nodded. "Yes, I did," she anwered. "But if you want me to keep it quiet, I will," she said shyly. "That is, if you'd like."

"Well, yer good at doin' that already," Applejack wanted to say. But instead, she said, "Thank ya kindly, Fluttershy."

Fluttershy smiled sweetly. Applejack gave her a quick hug, then began walking home, knowing that she could sleep because of her oh-so-quiet friend.

Author's Note: I Pinkie Pie promise the next chapter will be longer. That's all I have to say.

Disclaimer: I don't own My Little Pony. Or Rainbow Dash. Or Applejack. Or Fluttershy. Or--forget it.

Chapter 4: Advice

Chapter 4: Advice

Rainbow Dash sped toward her friend's house, the library. She found it weird that anypony could live in the attic of some old library. It occurred to her that she couldn't recall who ran the library before her friend, a unicorn by the name of Twilight Sparkle.

Rainbow giggled at what happened the last time she asked for advice from Twilight.

"Can I talk to you about something, Twilight?" Rainbow had asked.

"Of course, Rainbow Dash," Twilight replied. "We are friends, after all."

"Well..." Rainbow hesitated. "Is there a spell that you can do to make me, you know, faster?"

Twilight laughed. "Why in Equestria would I do that? You're the fastest pony around!"

Rainbow glared.

"No, I don't have a spell for that," Twilight said flatly, then brightened as if a lightbulb appeared above her head. "But I do have some books on the subject--"

As soon as Rainbow heard the word "books," she booked out of there herself.

Yeah, that was terrible, Rainbow thought to herself. The cold night air made her eyes teary as she flew.

She thought about how many moments she shared with Twilight that were embarrassing for the both of them. She remembered the time when--

BONK!

Rainbow Dash collided with the library's outside wall, falling ten feet onto the ground below.

After regaining her composure, Rainbow made her way to the front door of the library. Once she made it, she stood at the door for a moment to think about how she was going to ask her question to Twilight.

With a sigh, Rainbow lifted her front right hoof and knocked in the library's door, nervous about the subject they would discuss.

A moment later, an exhausted-looking baby dragon answered the door. It was Twilight's assistant, Spike. He raised an eyebrow. "Hi, Dash," he yawned.

Rainbow could tell he was asleep when she arrived. That's why she knocked; she didn't want to let herself in while the residents were sleeping. Wouldn't want to awaken them. Had it been daytime, she would have simply walked in.

"Hey, Spike," She said quietly, looking from side to side to make sure nopony was roaming the darkened streets of Ponyville. "Is...is Twilight here?" she asked.

Spike nodded groggily, stepping aside for Rainbow.

"Thanks, Spike," she said, hearing the door slowly close behind her. She turned to Spike, who had fallen asleep on the spot, leaning against the wall. She reminded herself to talk to Twilight about Spike after the actual topic of interest.

She found the stairs toward the back of the room. She always thought it was so amazing how the tree-built facility looked so much larger on the inside than it did from the outside.

Rainbow grew more nervous with every ascending step to Twilight's room. Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh, she thought, what am I gonna tell her? I can't tell her I'm a fillyfooler! Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh!

She was at the top of the stairs before she knew it. She took a deep breath before saying, "H-hey Twilight?"

Twilight Sparkle looked up from the book she was studying. She had been a book nerd ever since she moved to Ponyville from Canterlot, sent as a student by Princess Celestia to study friendship. Rainbow Dash found her manecut to be kind of cute, the way it was cut above her eyes gave her that schoolpony look.

"Oh, hi, Rainbow Dash!" she greeted. The room was dark, the window curtains drawn shut regardless of the night. The only light was provided by the candle that were lit around Twilight's desk so she could at least read her book and see what she was writing. "What brings you here?"

Rainbow hesitated. "Well...you see, I..." she couldn't bring herself self to say 'I need advice.'

Twilight sighed, but in a good way, then said, "I can tell you need help with something, Dash."

Rainbow's ears ears perked up at that statement, but she still scowled at her friend for thinking that Rainbow Dash, of all ponies, would need help. But in this case, Twilight was right.

"So, what do you need?"

Rainbow Dash thought for a moment, wondering if it was too late to run. No, it was too late for that now. She found the courage to speak up. "Well," she started, "There's this pony I really like, and just earlier they told me their feelings, and I kissed them. Now I'm not sure if we're dating or if the kiss even meant anything!"

"Dash?"

"And I've never felt this way for anypony before! I don't even know how to hold a relationship!"

"Dash."

"I mean, the last thing I want is to ruin our friendship. What'll happen if--"

"DASH!" Twilight screamed at the pegasus. Geez, that pony could give Pinkie Pie a run for her money when it came to nervous rambling.

Rainbow went silent.

"Okay," Twilight said with a sigh. "Who is this pony?"

"Oh," Rainbow was caught off guard by the question. "Um, n-nopony you know," she lied, looking away so that Twilight couldn't see her blushing.

Twilight smirked. "It's Applejack, isn't it?"

Rainbow's face turned a dark shade of crimson. Her eyes must have been as big as plates. "What!" she yelled at her friend. "I'm no fillyfooler! I would never--"

"That's all I needed to know," Twilight interrupted smugly.

Realizing that her reaction gave it away, she stomped her hoof on the floor.

"Don't worry, Rainbow Dash. You're secret is safe with me," Twilight told her reassuringly.

A wave of relief came over Rainbow Dash. "Really?"

Twilight nodded. "Absolutely. That's what friends do." She smiled.

"Thanks, Twi." Dash wanted to talk about this more, but there were too many things going through her mind for her to think straight. She was too tired anyway.

A moment of silence. Twilight decided to continue studying.

"You work that guy too hard," Rainbow Dash said, breaking the silence.

Twilight looked up from the book. "Who?"

"Spike," Rainbow said with a yawn. Thinking about how tired Spike looked made her very weary herself.

"Why don't you stay here tonight?" Twilight offered. A bed definitely sounded nice to Rainbow Dash right now. But she didn't worry about a bed. She collapsed right there on the spot. She was asleep before she hit the floor. Talking about Spike would have to wait until tomorrow.

A/N: Well, I told you it would be longer, so there ya go. :3 I don't break Pinkie Pie promises. Then again, if I did, that would defeat the whole purpose, now wouldn't it? Oh, yeah, I need ideas for the next fic (Sequel to this one) so please post ideas on my blog!

Lucky bastard.

Hey, everypony.

Bass here. Listen, I understand that the most of you have basically given up on my fic. I'm suffering from a severe case of writer's block, and I can't seem to find a cure. I hope you all understand.
Second, I wanted to address the issues with the chapters being so short. They seem rushed, I know. But, in reality, I just wanted to get them done and out of the way. I've explained this before, though I felt that I should address the issue again.
Third, I want and need everypony to give me ideas for the fic. Like I said, I've run out. So please, ideas.

Everypony equal,
Bass Drops.
