Spike wants to ask Rarity out but he wants to know if he is ready for a real date so his solution go on a practice date. Luckily for him most of his Ponyville friends are mares so he has a lot of options. Who will Spike choose and what will happen when the practice date turns into a real one, what will happen when Spike discovers feelings he didn't know he had.
Spike sat in a chair he was in the room Twilight usually uses to study, he was reading a book that Twilight gave him the book was about dating tips, Spike got comfortable on the chair he just finished the book and turned to Twilight she was busy writing something probably another friendship lesson for Starlight.Spike waited for her to finish and once she did Spike spoke "Twilight are you sure this is going to help me on an actual date?".
Twilight looked at Spike since his last birthday he has been talking about finally asking Rarity on a date because in his own words he was not only ready but he looked ready, Spike was as tall as Twilight now and he had wings but besides that he really didn't look any different. Twilight let out an angry sigh "Spike that book was written by somepony with a lot of experience in the subject of dating" Spike looked at her with a unconvinced looked but Twilight ignored it "so trust me when I tell that if it's in that book then it must be right".
Spike still looked unsure he doesn't want to look like he's trying to hard it might make Rarity think he's desperate or something "I don't know Twilight" Spike looked at the book in his claw and read the title "One Hundred Things You Should Do On a Date" Spike didn't trust this book the title was so unprofessional and the picture of the pony who wrote it looked like a scientist so he probably applied science to the whole thing.
"Look Spike I haven't been on a date" Twilight pointed at herself.
"I know that what's your point" Spike said jokingly but all that did was earn him a glare from Twilight.
"As I was saying I haven't dated before but if you asked me you should just do an experiment" Twilight looked at Spike who looked confused.
"An experiment Twilight this guy probably did an experiment and I'm still not convinced that he knew what he was talking about" Spike looked at Twilight who looked like she was thinking and apparently she came up with something.
"I just came up with the perfect plan Spike" Twilight was excited she was even rubbing her hooves together, Spike however just looked at her waiting for what she had to say "Spike how about you go on a date" Twilight looked at Spike excitement filling her eyes while Spike just didn't look impressed.
Spike put a claw to his face "Twilight why do you think we're having this conversation".
Twilight shook her head "Spike I don't mean go ask Rarity on a date I mean have a practice date" Spike looked back at Twilight with a weird look the plan sounded weird but it could still work. Spike got up from his chair and ran towards Twilight grabbing her in a hug while jumping up and down, Twilight was surprised by Spike's strength yes he was bigger and she wasn't that heavy but he still didn't have any muscles so the fact that he could pick her up stilled impressed Twilight, "maybe I should ask Ember about this" Twilight thought.
Spike finally put Twilight down he looked at her his eyes filled with excitement "Twilight can you go with me on the practice date" Twilight gained a small blush on her face and shook her head.
"Spike you know any other time I would say yes but maybe you should ask one of our friends" Twilight said her voice sounding like she was nervous, Spike apparently didn't notice and just sighed.
"Fine I'll ask one of our friends" with that Spike left the room. Spike was walking through the castle he was near the exit when he spotted Starlight "hey Starlight are you lost again?".
"Oh no Spike I'm actually starting to get the hang of moving around this place" Starlight said her voice sounding happy.
"Well I'm glad although I am going to miss you getting lost you actually looked cute when your lost" Spike said he passed Starlight and made his way outside spreading his wings and taking off not noticing Starlight blushing.
"Did he say I looked cute" Starlight looked towards the direction that Spike left and started walking in the opposite direction. Starlight walked towards Twilight's room she was curious as to why Spike left in such a hurry and she knew Twilight would know, Spike's words were still on her mind "he thinks I'm cute" she said to no one saying those words actually caused her blush to return to her face "what's wrong with me it was just a compliment nothing more calm yourself Starlight". Starlight kept walking towards Twilight's room she had to admit that she found Spike cute but they were only friends "it must be because of that because were friends that I'm getting like this" Starlight was satisfied with that but went back to looking confused, she didn't feel like that towards her other friends not even Sunburst so why was she blushing.
Starlight thought more and more about it even though she was friends with Twilight and her friends she didn't really felt like she was friends with them they all had their group and suddenly she appears, just because of that she felt like her only friends here in Ponyville were Twilight and Spike. Starlight had to admit that between Twilight and Spike she was more close to Spike, he helped her when she was lost, he didn't mind having to cook for her, he would talk to her when she was feeling sad or insecure, and more importantly he pushed her and gave her courage when she renewed her friendship with Sunburst, Spike was there to push her on in a time that she just wanted to run away.
Starlight finally made it to Twilight's room when she stepped in she saw that Twilight was reading she made her way towards Twilight and slightly touched her shoulder.
Twilight was surprised by the sudden contact but calmed down once she realized it was Starlight "oh Starlight you scared me what can I help you with".
"Hi Twilight I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you" Starlight said sounding really sorry about what she did Twilight gave her a sign that everything was fine which prompted Starlight to continue "I just wanted to ask why Spike seemed in such a hurry to get somewhere".
"Oh that you see Spike wanted to ask out Rarity"
"Oh" Starlight said her voice filled with sadness something that didn't go unnoticed by Twilight.
"Are you okay Starlight?" Twilight asked sounding really concerned about her her friend.
"I'm fine Twilight please continue" Twilight was still worried about her friend but decided not you push it if something bad was happening she knew Starlight would have told her.
"Well as I said Spike wanted to ask Rarity out on a date but he was worried that he wouldn't make a good first impression so I told him to have a practice date" Starlight thought about that it sounded so weird why would anypony do that she didn't have much time to think as Twilight started talking again "he already asked me and I couldn't go so now he is going to ask the others if they could go if he's lucky maybe one of them will say yes".
"Yeah maybe they will" Starlight said her voice still sounded a little sad but there was something else,"well that's all I wanted to know so I'll leave you alone" Starlight started making her way out of Twilight's room when Twilight's voice stopped her.
"Starlight if there is something wrong you can tell me".
Starlight turned around to face Twilight "don't worry Twilight I'm fine" anypony who listened to that could tell that she was lying Applejack could come up with better lies, Twilight again decided not to push her if there was something wrong Starlight would just tell her.
"Well if you ever need to talk just know that I'm here to listen and to help if I can".
"Thank you Twilight" Starlight made her way out of the room and started making her way towards her own room still thinking about what she heard, Spike was going to go on a date with one of the others even if it was still practice it was still a date. Starlight didn't know why she feeling like that Spike was only her friend nothing more right she should actually be happy that he's doing this, Starlight wanted to be happy for her friend but for some reason she couldn't and she didn't know why, was she jealous no she couldn't be Spike was only her friend and nothing else.
Starlight finally made it to her room she closed the door behind her and sat on the ground. She wanted to know why she felt like this but she didn't know why, she was sad and for some reason she was jealous of Rarity "why does Spike like her so much" Starlight said to herself and the words that Twilight told her earlier came back "he already asked me but i couldn't go so now he's going to ask the others" Starlight thought about that and she felt a tear going down her face "why didn't he ask me?".
Spike was flying around not knowing which of his friends to ask first. Spike finally made his decision he flew in the direction of Sweet Apple Acres to ask Applejack if she could go on a practice date with him, not knowing that today things were about to change?.
Spike flew all the way to Sweet Apple Acres when he made it he landed and immediately started looking for Applejack, Spike searched for a while until he finally found Aj. Applejack saw Spike and happily waved at him while Spike did the same "hi Spike what can I do for you?" Aj said in her usual southern accent, Spike looked at Aj and scratched the back of his head, he started explaining the whole reason why he was here.
Spike finished the story "I was wondering if you could help me out" Applejack looked at Spike with a shocked expression.
"Sorry Spike no can do don't take it personal it's just if I'm going to date somepony it has to be the real thing" Spike looked disappointed but he still had three other friends he could ask so he didn't try to convince Aj to do it. Spike looked around the farm and saw a lot of the buckets Aj uses when she goes applebucking.
"Hey Applejack do you need any help" Spike asked her, he knew Applejack could be stubborn and that he was probably the last guy she wanted help from especially after last time Spike tried to help her, Applejack looked around the farm she would usually say no but she did had a lot of work and even though she could do it on her own she knew with Spike's help it would move along faster.
"You know what Spike I could use the help thanks" Aj accepted Spike's offer especially after what happened last time she tried to do so much work on her own.
Spike was surprised that Applejack accepted his offer so easily. It would usually take days for Aj to accept help from one of her friends. Spike didn't mind he said he was going to help so that's what he did.
After their work Spike and Aj ate an Apple pie and that was it. Spike said goodbye to Aj and she did the same. Spike took to the air one more time and started thinking "Twilight is out and so is Applejack soooo" Spike was wondering which friend to ask next after a little bit he decided to ask Rainbow Dash.
Spike found Rainbow Dash on a cloud near her house and started explaining the whole story again, "so that's why I was wondering if you could help me". Rainbow didn't say anything instead she just laughed Spike gave her a glare showing her that he was serious.
Rainbow saw this and stopped laughing "look Spike your a great guy and all but I don't date so sorry" Spike raised an eyebrow to this and he gained a mischievous grin on his face.
"Oh really what about you and Soarin" Rainbow Dash immediately got angry and flew directly at Spike until they were face to face.
"Me and Soarin are just friends okay we just hang out after practice their not dates" Rainbow voice was full of anger meanwhile Spike was loving it it was so easy to get under Rainbow skin so he kept going.
"Really then why are you blushing".
"I'm not blushing" Rainbow was going to keep going but she knew what Spike was doing "oh hahaha... Spike your really funny" Rainbow said glaring at Spike.
"I'm sorry Rainbow you just make it to easy" Rainbow sighed.
"Look I would love to stay here and chat but I have work to do you know Cloudbusting and all that" Rainbow was ready to take off but Spike stopped her.
"Do you need help?" Spike asked he wanted to help Rainbow after making fun of her like that. Rainbow could easily do this by herself but having someone to talk to would be a lot better so she accepted. After helping her bust some clouds Spike said goodbye to Rainbow and went on his way.
Spike was in the sky again "So Twilight, Applejack and now Rainbow are out only two more options" Spike said to himself he thought about for a moment and he decided to ask Fluttershy so he started flying in the direction of her cottage.
Spike made it to Fluttershy's cottage landing in front of it and knocking on the door. Spike got worried when no one answered and decided to go around the cottage to see if she was outside. Spike found her watering the flowers on her back yard and when she saw him she waved and gave him a happy smile.
"Hello Spike can I help you?" Fluttershy asked in her usual shy manner as sho turned towards Spike who was walking towards her.
"Hi Fluttershy I...." Spike thought about it before asking her "should I really ask Fluttershy I don't want to make her nervous" Spike also knew that even if she didn't want to she would say yes just because Fluttershy hated when others were mad at her. Spike went on and on inside his head and in the end he decided not to ask her.
"Spike are you alright" Fluttershy said with a worried looked on her face, Spike realised he was just standing there so he nodded.
Spike scratched the back of his head something he would tend to do when he was nervous "yeah Fluttershy I'm fine I just came here to see if you needed help" Spike said hoping she would buy it, Fluttershy wasn't stupid she knew Spike was hiding something she could tell just by the way he was acting but she could just ask Twilight about it.
Fluttershy decided to go along with it "well that's very kind of you Spike" Spike was relieved that it work not knowing that Fluttershy actually knew he was lying, "Spike I could actually use your help if you don't mind".
"Whatever you need Fluttershy" Spike gave her a huge smile.
"Well could you help me feed the animals please" Spike nodded and started helping Fluttershy. After they were done Fluttershy invited him for a cup of tea which he gladly accepted, during their impromptu tea party they talked about what's been happening in their lives and other things that they were both interested in. After finishing Spike said goodbye and thank you to Fluttershy he gave her a hug and left he flew up into the sky turned to look at Fluttershy in the ground and waved.
Spike was in the air again "So Twilight, Applejack ,Rainbow Dash and now Fluttershy are out the only one left it's Pinkie Pie" Spike turned and started flying towards Sugar Cube Corner to find her knowing this was his last option.
Spike landed right in front of Sugar Cube Corner and went inside once he stepped through the doors he was immediately hugged by Pinkie Pie. Pinkie let go of Spike and started hopping around "oh hi Spike what brings you here I mean besides the sweetest treats you'll ever taste". Spike started explaining the story to Pinkie and during the whole thing she never lost her smile.
"Well that's pretty much it so Pinkie can you do me a favor" Spike looked at Pinkie she was his last choice so he was pretty much desperate at this point.
"Oh Spike that sounds like fun" Pinkie said in her usual happy voice, Spike got excited thinking he finally got someone to help him, "but I can't Spike" and with that all hope was lost for Spike, Spike stared at Pinkie and she stared back "Spike trust me I would love to go but I have to babysit for the Cakes so I can't" Pinkie herself looked disappointed but then she got an idea "you know you could help me take care of them and that could be our date" Pinkie said looking at Spike, Spike didn't answer to that but Pinkie kept going "we could pretend we are a family I'll be the mom and you'll be the dad and Pound and Pumpkin could be our babies it'll be fun" Pinkie started hopping around excitedly.
Spike saw as Pinkie hopped around, Spike wasn't really good with babies he already tried to help with Pound and Pumpkin before and it didn't go well, a lot of crying and pounding and being bounced around with magic, "you know Pinkie maybe I'll ask somepony else"Spike said not wanting to deal with that again.
"Ahhh come on Spike it'll be fun I'll even give you a kiss" Pinkie said while also fluttering her eyes, Spike was afraid at this point it was weird having Pinkie trying to seduce him.
"Pinkie you know I just remembered I have to do something for Twilight so bye" Spike ran out of there before things got really weird.
Pinkie was left with a confused look on her face "well that was weird" Pinkie shrugged and hopped back to work.
Spike walked back to the castle his friends couldn't help him well Pinkie could but he knew things were going to get weird, now anypony who heard his crazy idea might say Spike your in Ponyville were the majority of the population are females, Spike would say he is correct but he wasn't going to start asking random girls to go on a date with him it would be weird, granted he did just that with his friends but the difference was he knew them for years. Spike was so wrapped up on his thoughts that he didn't notice three fillies walking next to him well he didn't notice until they all shouted "hi Spike what are you doing" Spike jumped into the air and grabbed a nearby cloud holding on to it like his life depended on it, he finally came down when he realized it was only the Crusaders.
Spike came down to the ground and stared at them "are you girls trying to kill me never do that again" Spike said breathing heavily this caused the three girls to burst into laughter. Spike rolled his eyes and kept walking when the girls realized this they went after them.
"So Spike what are you doing" Sweetie Belle was the one to speak. Spike sighed having already gone through the story before but one more couldn't hurt so he told them the story, everything since the moment he got the idea to now.
The girls looked confused "Spike do you want one of us to go with you".
"Sweetie Belle that's gross" Scootaloo was the one to say that, "she's turning into Rainbow Dash" Spike thought one Rainbow Dash was enough.
Spike sighed "look Sweetie Belle I appreciate the offer but I think it would be better if I dated somepony closer to your sisters age" the girls had mixed emotions Scootaloo was glad Spike said, Apple Bloom didn't really mind, and Sweetie looked disappointed "have you girls even dated before" the three of them shook their head Spike already knew the answer they were to young to date.
Spike went back to walking to the castle but now he was joined by the three girls. Spike made it to the castle in the middle of the way the girls went to do their own thing. Spike did enjoyed talking to them especially since they always seemed to cheer him up for some reason.
Spike entered the castle and sat down on the nearest couch he could find. Spike sat there for what felt like hours he was tired he flew all day from place to place and in the end none of his friends were available for the date. Spike kept thinking what was he going to do next so much that he didn't notice Starlight come into the until she spoke "hi Spike did you find a date" Spike was surprised by the sudden appearance of Starlight who was now sitting across from him but he was also surprised that she knew about it, Spike was about to ask how she knew but she answered "Twilight told me about so how did it go" Starlight's voice sounded sad.
"Not good Starlight none of my friends can go on a date with me" Starlight was about to tell Spike that she could go but Spike kept talking "well to be fair I didn't even ask Fluttershy and Pinkie did say yes but that would i have involved me babysitting and I just can't do that".
"Um Spike I could go on that practice date if you still want to do it" Spike was surprised to hear Starlight say that, he didn't ask her because they didn't know each other for very long, also because despite their short time together they became really close and Spike didn't want to ruin that. Spike liked Starlight because she was the only one who knew what it felt like to be alone or that you don't belong, even though Spike was surrounded by friends he didn't really feel like they were his friends, that feeling came when he became friends with Starlight and he didn't want to ruin it by doing something stupid or having things get awkward after the practice date.
Starlight sighed she already knew Spike was going to say no, this caused Starlight to feel sad again her and Spike were only going to be friends and that's it, she started feeling tears trying to escape her eyes but she stopped them by closing her eyes she didn't want Spike to see her cry.
Spike saw this and decided to just go for it "Starlight would you do me a favor and go with me on a practice date". Starlight opened her eyes and stared at Spike she didn't expect him to take her offer but she knew this was her only chance to show Spike how she truly feels about him.
"Okay Spike I'll go get ready" with that Starlight went to her room happy and excited. Spike just sat there he had never seen Starlight that happy. After getting over all of that Spike got up stretched and went to his room to get ready just because it was practice didn't mean he could be sloppy he was going to bring his best and see if he is truly ready for a real date.
Starlight looked at herself in the mirror and giggled she didn't know why but she was happy and excited. Starlight was wearing just a plain yellow dress since she knew Spike wouldn't care what she was wearing, Rarity on the other hoof would probably have a panic attack if she saw what Starlight was wearing. Starlight started looking at herself in the mirror "do I really have feelings for Spike" Starlight thought to herself, she always felt happy around Spike and she always got angry or jealous when he would go somewhere with Rarity. Starlight sighed "who are you kidding Starlight look at you Rarity is much more beautiful than you" Starlight looked down how could she ever with a pony like Rarity, even now this is just practice so that Spike could ask Rarity out.
Starlight shook her head she wasn't about to start crying, "yeah he may be in love with Rarity but he's with you tonight so c'mon Starlight you can do it" Starlight thought to herself she wasn't going to let anything or anypony get in her way, today she was going to find out for sure if she had feelings for Spike and if she did she was going to tell him.
Spike stood by the door waiting for Starlight, he was wearing a tuxedo with a white shirt under it, a top hat and he also had a black cane, he needed to look good. Spike waited he already knew were they were going since Spike already made a reservation he was prepared he was bringing his A game.
"Sorry I took so long in ready" Spike looked at Starlight and she looked absolutely beautiful, Spike was used to seeing over the top beautiful dresses because of Rarity, he was also used to seeing a mare with a lot of makeup but Starlight didn't have either of these things, she looked so simple, she looked so normal and yet Spike would say that she looked absolutely beautiful. "How do I look Spike?" Starlight asked breaking Spike out of his thoughts.
"You look beautiful Starlight" this caused Starlight to start blushing again.
"Thanks Spike you look great to" Starlight smiled at Spike and he smiled back.
For some reason Spike was starting to feel warm "okay so are you ready to go" Spike said scratching the back of his head, Starlight knew Spike did that when he was getting nervous but she didn't say anything, Starlight nodded and both her and Spike left for their practice date.
Spike and Starlight walked towards the restaurant, the whole way was filled with awkward silence and the occasional glance but Spike decided to put an end to that, "Starlight thanks for doing this for me".
"No problem Spike I mean if it weren't for you I probably would have never rekindled my friendship with Sunburst" Spike looked at her with a confused look he didn't do anything did he "Spike you pushed me and in the end you gave me enough courage to go through with it" Spike thought about it and he did pushed her, when Twilight wanted to cancel the friendship lesson he stepped up and helped Starlight through it. Spike smiled he was always happy to help his friends, especially when he actually helps them and just doesn't make things worse.
Spike gave Starlight a smile and she returned it, he still felt weird there was something else he didn't feel before, especially around her but he felt it now Spike was confused was he getting sick or could it be something else. The rest of the trip was quite, but it wasn't the awkward kind of quite it was the type of silence that they both like.
Spike and Starlight finally made it to the restaurant, the restaurant itself looked pretty casual it wasn't a really fancy restaurant but it wasn't fast food either, the best way to describe it is take a dinner and combine it with a restaurant and there you go. Starlight liked it it wasn't super fancy but it was still pretty beautiful, Spike looked around and spotted one of his friends that worked here, he was a Pegasus stallion with a silver coat, a blue mane and tail, and his eyes looked like winter snow.
"Hey Spike back again I see and what do we have here you finally brought a date" the stallion had a calm voice and he apparently knew Spike.
"Hey yeah I'm back and yes she's my date sort of" the stallion looked at Starlight and smiled.
"Hello my name is Silver Breeze it's a pleasure to meet you".
"Hi my name is Starlight" Silver took Starlight's hoof and kissed it, Starlight thought it was weird but she knew it was something that some ponies do so she smiled.
Silver looked at Spike and the he looked at Starlight, Silver was a pony who likes to play pranks or mess with his friends and Spike knew this so he decided to have some fun. "Starlight has anypony told you how beautiful you are" Starlight was surprised by what he just said, Spike however wasn't to happy. Spike for some reason got angry about what Silver just said, Spike knew he was a huge flirt but still why was he getting angry him and Starlight were just friends nothing more.
Silver looked at Spike and grinned it was working "so judging by the angry look on his face he must really like Starlight my job here is done" Silver thought to himself. "Well before Spike kills me why don't I show you to your table" Spike now knew he was just messing with him, Starlight however had no idea what was going on.
The pair went inside and it really did look like a diner and a restaurant put together, there were many tables with ponies sitting and chatting, the seats were big like the ones on Sugar Cube Corner able to hold four ponies on each side, the tables were decorated like the tables you would find on some fancy restaurant and there were even to floors. Silver lead them up the stairs and into a balcony that you couldn't see from the first floor on her way to the balcony Starlight notice that the tables upstairs were set up to look more fancy.
"Here you go guys best seat in the house" the balcony had about five tables only and none of them were taken, well one of them was. Spike and Starlight sat on their table Starlight looked to her side and from the balcony you could see the castle perfectly and with the sunset it looked beautiful. Silver gave them their menus so they could look at them "what will it be for drinks".
"Just water for me please" Starlight knew this was a practice date but Spike really went all out, so she didn't really wanted to add more to the check. Spike apparently didn't care.
"Do you have some of those milkshakes with the jewels mixed into it" Silver nodded and Spike got really happy "I'll have one of those but put only sapphires in it their my favorite" Silver wrote it down and left to get the drinks.
Things went quite after that but Starlight wasn't going to let this chance go to waste, "this is an interesting place do you come here often?" Starlight said the first thing that popped into her head. Usually on dates you would ask about each other's interest and ask were are they from and all that but Starlight already knew that, so she went for something else.
Spike looked at Starlight he couldn't believe she never came to this place before. "Yeah I love this place you get so many options" Spike really liked this place, he knew how to cook but there were just those days he was to tired, so he would always come here. Although he usually came alone this is the first time he came with one of his friends. Spike looked at Starlight and smiled he was actually happy that he wasn't alone, it then dawned on Spike that even though this was a practice date it was still his first. Spike always wanted his first date to be with Rarity, but weirdly enough he didn't really care he was happy that Starlight was here.
Silver then came by with their drinks and asked what they would like to order. Starlight took the menu using her magic and looked through the options. She was impressed with all of the choices there were so many. Starlight in the end took a salad that had different fruits put into it. Spike asked for the usual which was another salad but this one had gems in it. Starlight was surprised that dragons could love gems so much and when it came to Spike he practically couldn't survive without them.
Spike finally decided to start talking "Starlight thanks again for doing this for me I'm actually glad that I'm not alone" Starlight stared at Spike and smiled. Spike stared at the castle in the distance "I know Rarity is going to love this place.
Starlight looked sad but decided to not let Spike see her like this, she did however decided to ask something she had been wondering for a while, "Spike why do you like Rarity?" Spike looked at Starlight shocked that she would ask that.
"Well she's really beautiful".
"Spike don't you think the others are beautiful what about me you said I'm beautiful" Spike actually didn't know how to answer that, obviously his other friends were beautiful but to him Rarity was just more beautiful.
"Well I guess it's true what they say beauty it's in the eye of the beholder" Spike said sounding very confident.
"Spike you still haven't answered the question" Starlight said thinking Spike didn't have an answer.
"Why do you care so much about this?" Spike was starting to get a little bit angry at this point.
"Because Rarity doesn't feel the same way and maybe there's somepony that actually does" Starlight said she was now sure about it, after thinking about how happy she would feel around Spike, to how jealous she would get when Rarity was around, she couldn't deny it anymore, she was actually in love with Spike.
Starlight stared directly at Spike and judging by his angry expression she could tell he probably didn't feel the same way. Spike glared at Starlight "Starlight just drop it I like Rarity and she likes me so don't say that again" Spike's voice was filled with anger, Starlight knew any chance she had to win Spike over were gone. She lost and Rarity won.
Starlight sighed and she held back tears "okay Spike if that's what you want". The food arrived and the rest of the dinner was quite. Spike didn't even look at Starlight, while Starlight was filled with sadness. She was going to be forced to watch the one she loved go after another mare, a mare that didn't even loved him.
When Spike and Starlight finished eating Spike paid the bill and they left. The walk home was even more quite Spike just wanted to get home and Starlight stared at the ground. Half way there however Starlight decided to say something.
"You know Spike Rarity doesn't feel the same way" Starlight said her voice sounded sad and she never stopped looking at the ground.
Spike turned around and glared at Starlight again. "Why are you doing this?" Starlight looked directly at Spike her eyes filled with tears "what is your problem!" Spike yelled his voice filled with anger.
Starlight looked at Spike "she's my problem she doesn't love you but I do!" Starlight also yelled but her voice was sad and tears started to come out, thank Celestia nopony was around or they would all probably be staring at them.
Spike angry look was replaced with a confused look "you what?".
"I love you Spike and she doesn't" Starlight was now crying "but you still love her I thought tonight I could show you how I truly feel but now I know you don't feel the same way". Spike just stared at Starlight he couldn't believe she actually felt like that. Starlight looked at Spike tears were running down her face "I'm sorry Spike" with that Starlight started running tears falling even faster down her face. She didn't know were she was going but she knew she needed to get away.
Spike stood there not doing anything. Starlight just confessed her feelings for him and he had no idea what to do. Spike thought about all the moments he spent with Rarity, and he enjoyed every moment he spent with her. Then he thought about all the moments he spent with Starlight, and he actually felt more happy than the times he spent with Rarity, he also thought about how he felt when he saw her in that dress and how happy he felt when she agreed to go on a date with him, he also remembered how he felt when he thought Silver was going to start flirting with Starlight.
It finally dawned on Spike. He was in love with Starlight, he just couldn't see it until now. Spike looked in the direction that Starlight ran and he started running in the same direction. He was such an idiot he had the perfect mare right in front of him and he ignored her. Spike ran and hoped that it wasn't to late to tell her how he felt.
Spike ran in the same direction Starlight ran, he needed to find her and tell her. Spike reached Ponyville park he had been searching different places along the way and he took so much time that it was already night time. Spike walked through the park and after searching for a while he was about to give up until he finally found her. Spike slowly made his way to Starlight and sat down she looked at him, her eyes were red it looked like she was crying.
Spike sighed "you know I never been really good with the whole love thing" Starlight didn't say anything she kept looking at her reflection in the pond, "Starlight I always wondered what it was like to have somepony who truly understood how you felt" Starlight looked at Spike waiting for him to get to the point. Spike started staring at his own reflection "I always felt like the odd one out" Spike paused and took a deep breath "even though I'm surrounded by friends I always felt alone".
"I know how you feel none of the group feel like their my friends" Starlight said sadness was present in her voice.
"I've always felt like that until you came along" Spike looked at Starlight and she looked at him, "you and me we became so close because we always felt like we didn't belong am I right". Starlight nodded and Spike smiled at his own reflection "we became the best of friends, that's actually one of the reasons I didn't ask you out".
Starlight looked at Spike with genuine surprise "that's the reason but that didn't stop you from asking the others".
"Like I said Starlight they never really felt like they were my friends" Spike looked at her reflection now "but you were different all the times we spent helping each other and talking about our lives I didn't want to ruin that by doing something stupid like this whole practice date". Starlight now stared at Spike "when you told me you loved me something woke up inside of me" Spike got up and sat next to her "I felt something that I have never felt with Rarity".
"What did you feel Spike?"
Spike looked at her eyes, they were so beautiful "I felt true love". Starlight was now staring into Spike's eyes "Starlight I love you" Starlight felt her heart raced and she started blushing. Spike just kept staring into her eyes "all the time we spent together I've enjoyed every second of it and I wouldn't change anything". Spike then decided to go for it and pulled Starlight closer to him and gave her a kiss.
Starlight was surprised but she didn't pull away she just kissed back. Everything she wanted was now happening, now she truly knew that she had feelings for Spike. The pair finally broke the kiss and just stared into each other's eyes. "Starlight do you want to go on an actual date with me".
"Yes Spike I would love to" the pair then kissed again this time lasting even longer. After they stopped kissing Spike put his arm around Starlight and she leaned on his chest. The pair stayed like that for a while as they enjoyed the quite night and the beautiful stars. After minutes passed of silence Starlight broke it "Spike what about Rarity?".
Spike kept looking at the stars and answered the question "I don't think she feels the same way and I think she would be happy for us" Spike smiled and Starlight did too "I think we shouldn't tell them were dating just yet".
Starlight was confused "why not Spike".
"I just don't want drama or ponies spying on our dates" Spike looked at Starlight and he gave her a quick kiss "let's tell them when we have our fifth date that sound good to you" Starlight nodded and went back to looking at the stars.
Spike was ready to go home, he was already tired "Starlight are you ready to go. Spike looked at Starlight and was surprised to find that she was asleep, Spike smiled and thought she looked really cute. Spike sighed and decided that carrying her back would be better than waking her up. Spike grabbed Starlight making sure he didn't wake her up and carried her on his back holding on to her to make sure she doesn't fall.
Spike made it to the castle Starlight still on his back sleeping. Twilight saw Spike come in and was about to ask why he took so long but she shushed her. Spike pointed to his back and saw Starlight sleeping "Twilight sorry we took so long we kinda started looking at the stars and we lost track of time".. Spike thought about telling Twilight about him and Starlight but decided not to, because Twilight can't really keep a secret.
Spike took Starlight to her room and put her on her bed, he took her dress off thinking that she wouldn't mind since ponies were always naked. Spike started walking to get to his room when a voice stopped him. "Spike can you sleep here with me" Spike looked at Starlight, she was almost completely asleep but not quite.
Spike though about and in the end decided to stay. Spike climbed into the bed and immediately Starlight got close to Spike and started snuggling, once she felt comfortable she stopped. "Goodnight Spike I love you".
Spike looked at her eyes they were almost close she must be really tired. Spike gave her a kiss "goodnight Starlight I love you too". With that Starlight went to sleep with Spike falling asleep a little while later. Spike was finally happy that he found somepony to love and a pony that loves him as much. He knew that things with Rarity would probably stay the same, but for him things could only get better.
