AppleJack might seem to have a great life, but very few knows about her harsh past and the pain she feels inside when she looks at Apple bloom. In this story we will follow Applejack and her sister through an unforgiving war.
Years have passed since the war began and ended. AppleJack and her sister Apple bloom is living a good life on their farm, Sweet Apple Acres. But it does`nt matter how much AppleJack tries. Memories of the war and the loss of her family and friends keeps haunting her. In this story we will follow Applejack and her sister through an unforgiving war that scarred Applejack for life.
Authors note: Allright, this is the first story i`ve ever written. This story does not follow the original My little pony: Friendship is magic story and universe. Also English is not my first language, so i apologize for any grammar fails. Hope you`ll like it.
It was a beautiful September evening. Applejack and her brother was out working on their old farm, Applejack was excited about getting a little sister.
She was kicking down apples from their apple trees, Bigmac was helping her carrying the apples to their house.
Applejack stopped and turned to her brother.
"How do ya think she will look like?" Applejack asked her brother.
"I dunno. Maybe she will look like me?" he replied.
"Ya do realize it`s a she and not a he right, MacIntosh?" She said with a smile.
"Eyyupp!" he replied.
They both smiled and picked up two baskets each which was full of apples and started moving towards the house.
"How does it feel to finally become a big sister, Sis?" Bigmac asked as he looked at his sister with a gentle smile.
"Ahm excited! I`ve always wanted to have a little sister. I`m gonna teach her everything I know. How to kick down apples from a tree and how to bake pies." Applejack said as she looked up to the beautiful september evening sky.
Bigmac looked at his sister with a proud smile. "Eyupp. Just remember she`s a baby. The tree kicking and baking will have to wait til` she`s older."
"I know I know. Hey, how was I like when I was a baby?" Applejack asked her brother with a curious voice.
"You were the cutest little thing We`ve ever seen.... also the most annoying thing hahaha! Non stop crying and kept us all up at night" Said Bigmac as he laughed.
Applejack started to giggle: "Well I was a baby. I recon you weren`t exactly quiet at night when you was a baby neither" Applejack replied as she picked up an apple that she had dropped.
"Haha I guess not" Bigmac replied.
They both laughed as they walked up on their front porch.
They got inside the house and walked into the kitchen that was to the right as soon as you got inside the main hall, they walked towards the kitchen sink to wash the apples. The house was empty, their father was with their mother at the hospital, keeping her company as they wait for the baby to come.
"When do ya think Pa will come home from the hospital visit?" Applejack asked her brother as she grabbed two knives which they would slice the apples with.
"I dunno. He wants to be with Ma and keep her company. It must get lonely at them hospitals." He said with a tired voice. They have been working on the farm all day as their father is with their mom.
Applejack looked at her brother. "What if she gives birth tonight?" She said with an excited voice.
Bigmac smiled and replied. "Then I know a certain someone that will stay up all night holding and looking at her new sister."
Applejack smiled "You said it" she said and giggled "I can`t wait to see her. Applejack and her new sister, picking the best apples in the whole west."
They both laughed and started slicing the apples for their apple pie, when their father suddenly opened the front door.
(Door opens and closes)
"Howdy ya`ll! I`m home!"
Applejack rushed to see her father and ask about her mother: "Hey Pa! How was Ma holding up? Is the baby close? Will she give birth soon?"
"Calm down Applejack." Her father said with a big smile. "Your mother is doing good. The doctors expects the baby to arrive in a week."
"A week? I thought the baby would arrive earlier." Applejack said as she looked a little disappointed and looked down scratching her hoof to the floor.
Her father put his old cowboy hat on Applejacks head and said with a gentle smile: "She would arrive earlier, but she`s a stubborn little filly. Just like when you were born. You did`nt want come out neither" he said and started to laugh.
Applejack started to giggle a little "I guess it runs through the family to be stubborn" She said with a smile.
"What will you name her?" Applejack asked her father with a curious and excited voice.
"I dunno, let`s see what she looks like first. Maybe a new Applejack?" Her father replied with a smile and started to pat Applejack softly on the head.
Applejack started to giggle and looked at her father with a pleased look.
"Why not name her Applejack as well?" Bigmac asked from the kitchen.
"Aw ya silly horse, We can`t have 2 Applejacks running around. That would just get confusing" Applejack replied with a joyful voice.
"Maybe not Applejack, but something with Apple..." Bigmac replied as he tried to think of a name.
Their father started to laugh. "We`ll come up with something. Now let`s make some pies and then later hit the hay. It`s getting late." he said.
(Mortars falling from the sky and explodes on impact)
Applejack and Bigmac was running on an open field towards the hospital.
Exhausted and out of breath, Applejack looked back and stopped as she saw a mortar heading straight towards them. "Bigmac!!! WATCH OUT!!!!" she yelled.
A mortar explodes infront of Applejack, making her fly backwards into some mud.
Applejack tried to get some air in as she was laying in the dirt, coughing. She deeply inhales and calls for her brother: "MacIntosh?! Are you okay?!"
She did`nt get a reply, the air was too dusty from the explosion to be able to see anything infront of her.
"Big mac?" she called again.
She still did`nt get a response. She started to assume the worst. Her eyes started to watering up and she tried to call for her brother one more time.
"Big...mac...?"
'Then she heard something. (coughs) "I`m allright. That was close...."
It was her brother, he survived the explosion and was limping towards Applejack.
Applejack ran towards her brother and hugged him. "I thought I lost you. Come on, we need to get to ma and pa."
They heard another mortar whistle.
"Ya hear that?" Big mac asked his sister as he looked at her with worried eyes.
"It`s another mortar strike! Run!!" Applejack yelled and they started to run towards the town on the other side of the field.
The mortars explodes behind them as they run, the mortars were getting closer and closer to Applejack and Big mac.
Big mac grabbed Applejacks arm and jumps into a huge mortar crater to their right while keeping his arm over her head to protect her from dirt, rocks and projectiles from the explosions.
"Keep your head down!!" He yelled as the mortars were exploding around them.
Applejack screamed as the mortars exploded around them.
The mortar strike stopped and they were laying on the ground for a while wondering if they were still alive.
"Are you okay, MacIntosh?" Applejack asked her brother with a shaky voice.
"Yeah, I think so. You?" He replied as he was getting up from the ground.
"Still breathing.... Hey, i can see the hospital from here! We`re almost there!" Applejack said and pointed at the hospital their parents are supposed to be in.
Big mac looked at the tall building that was not far from them. "You`re right! Let`s just get away from this field first before we start cheering." He said to his shaking sister.
They ran across the field hoping the mortars would`nt start falling again.
They reached the city in one piece and started to walk towards the hospital.
"We made it! I can see Pa through the window!" Applejack said with a reliefed voice.
They both started to run towards the hospital.
But as they was running towards the hospital they heard another mortar whistle, they looked up and saw a lot of mortar shells heading straight towards the hospital.
"It`s gonna hit the hospital!" Big mac yelled.
Applejack could feel her heart start breaking. "No! NO!" She yelled!
The mortars hits the hospital and pounds it to the ground. It`s completely ruined and there`s no-way anyone could have survived.
"NOOOOOOO!!!!!" Applejack fell to her knees and started to cry "MA!! PA!!"
Mortars whistle as they are falling towards Applejack and Big mac.
Applejack looked up and then she looked down to the ground "I can`t.... They`re dead.... They`re..." The mortars were just about to hit Applejack and Big mac, but then she wakes up. Applejack started to look around just find out she was in her bed. "It was just a dream.... Strange, I never have dreams like that." She said and yawned. "What time is it?" She asked herself as she was looking to her right seeing the clock on her desk: "7:40? Allrighty then, I need a shower. That dream really had me sweating." Applejack got up from the bed and started to wipe the tears from her chin.
She grabbed a towel and proceeded towards the bathroom, but before she opened the door she heard the radio was on downstairs. She walked down to listen to a good country song that was playing on the radio, but then the song got cut off...
Radio: "We interrupt this song to brief some urgent news. Earlier this morning the Princess got attacked by assassins from the Northern Empire, the conflict between Equestria and the Northern Empire has been going on for years now. Princess Celestia thinks it`s time to take action. The Northern Empire has been harrasing Equestria for too long. Here`s the princess`s speech from earlier.
Applejack walked into the living room where the radio is. When she got inside the room she saw her father and her brother sitting infront of the radio listening. She walked up behind them to listen to the speech.
Princess Celestia: "Dear inhabitants of Equestria. Earlier this morning, I almost got murdered by assassins from the Northern Empire. They had direct orders from Lord Derrick to dispose of me. This will NOT be tolerated, I want all men of Equestria to sign up to the Royal army. We`re going to war. If they want war then we will answer their call. I will not lie to you, the Northern Empire won`t go down without a fight. God bless Equestria and....
Applejacks father turned off the radio.
"Those darn Northern Empire scums. How dare they try to murder our beloved Princess?" He said with a frustrated voice.
Applejack looked at her father with a worried look on her face "Pa, does this mean that you have to go back into the army?" She asked her father.
Her father sighs "I don`t know. I don`t think so, my leg got hurt last time i was in the army. They want healthy battle worthy men. I don`t think I will be qualified for battle." he said and looked at Applejack.
"Good, we need you here. Especially now when we will have a new family member soon." Applejack said with a pleased smile.
Her father smiled and gave her a pat on the head
"I know. Let`s eat some breakfast and then visit Ma at the hospital." He said as he started to walk towards the kitchen.
"Breakfast sounds good. I am starving." Said Big mac as he grabbed his stomach.
"I think I will skip the breakfast, I ain`t hungry anyway. I`m gonna hop into the shower instead." said Applejack and started walking towards the stairs.
"You sure?" Her father asked and looked at Applejack with a raised eyebrow. Applejack never skips breakfast, so this worried him a little bit.
"Yupp. I`m sure." Applejack replied.
"Allrighty then. Just don`t take too long." He replied and walked into the kitchen.
Applejack started to walk up the stairs, "Don`t worry. I won`t." she said as she focused on the stairs.
Applejack started to go upstairs and headed towards the bathroom. She stopped infront of the bathroom door. She looked to her right and saw the door to her sisters future room. She walked towards it and opened the door. She stepped in and looked at the baby bed and all the toys that was stacked up nicely, she picked up a Teddybear that was sitting on her sisters bed,
She looked at the Teddybear and was smiling, "I can`t wait to finally have you here sis`, i`m gonna make a real farmer out of you. This is a dream coming true." She said with a huge smile.
She looked at an colorful little ball that was sitting on the shelf. "I can`t wait to be kicking ball with you on the huge grass field behind the house."
She put back the Teddybear in the bed and walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.
"Right, shower and then visit Ma."
She stepped into the shower and turned on the water. As the hot water was covering her body she started to think about her dream and about the coming war. She was thinking to herself if her dream was a sign or if it was just a coincidence. She`s worried about the war, She knows that the Northern Empire does`nt show any mercy in their wars. They don`t care if you`re a soldier, civilian or a small child. They will kill you anyway just because you`re not a part of their Empire. She don`t want her sister to grow up in war. But she promise to do anything to keep her sister safe. She will not let anyone hurt her.
Her thoughts was running back and forth and she completely forgot about the time.
Then someone started knocking on the bathroom door, it was her father.
"Applejack? Are you okay? You`ve been showering for 30 minutes now. We need to go soon." He said with a stressed voice.
Applejack was shocked about what he said, "30 minutes??? Shoot! Yeah i`m almost finished. You two can go ahead and i`ll catch up with Y`all." She said.
"It`s okay Applejack, we`ll wait for you outside." He replied and started to walk downstairs.
"Okay. Thanks."
Applejack was so lost in her thoughts so she had forgot to put Shampoo on her hair and body. She grabbed a bottle real quick and started to put shampoo on her hair. It smelled like apple. She washed out the shampoo turned of the shower and put on her towel and started to dry herself.
She rushed down the stairs and walked out towards Big mac and her father.
Big mac looked at her with a taunt smile, "Took ya sweet time did`nt ya?"
Applejack looked down to the ground, "I`m sorry ya`ll, I got caught up in my thoughts."
Her father put his hoof on her shoulder and looked at her, "Don`t worry about the war Applejack, we will be alright." He said and put on his old cowboy hat.
"Yeah don`t ya worry. It ain`t nothing, we will be safe here at our farm." Said Big mac with a calm and confident voice.
They started to walk away from the house towards the old dirt road.
"I hope so..." Applejack whispered to herself.
Her father turned his head and looked at Applejack, "You said something sugar?" He asked.
"I was just thinking out loud." She replied.
Her Father smiled and started to look forwards again. "Allrighty then. Let`s go to the hospital."
The hospital was in the city a couple of miles away. They were walking through the old dirt road that lead towards the main road. It was cold and grey outside. When they got into the city the streets were full of people signing up for the army, the military was moving equipment on the roads so traffic was cut off. The soldiers was dealing out papers to all males on the streets, but they did`nt notice Applejacks father luckily enough. When they got into the hospital it was quiet, it was almost empty because the doctors was heading towards the Royal Army sign up office to sign up as field medics. They started to walk towards the baby sector of the hospital. They walked towards the room where her mom was.
Applejack knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Applejack was the first one heading in.
Applejack was looking at her mom with a big smile. "Howdy Ma!" she said and walked towards her mom and gave her a hug.
"Hey there sugar-cube, gosh i`ve missed seeing you. The days are really long in here." Her mom said and was hugging Applejack as if they have`nt seen each-other for years.
"I`ve missed you too, the farm is so empty without you." Applejack replied.
Her mom started to giggle. "Soon it will be fuller than ever" she said and put her hoof on her stomach, petting it. "Did you come here all by yourself?" She asked Applejack.
Before Applejack could answer, Big mac stepped in.
"Hey Ma." He said and hugged her.
And soon after her husband came in with some flowers.
"Here you go darlin`." He said and gave her the flowers.
Her mom looked almost shocked about the flowers. "Are those for me? Darling you`re too sweet." She said and gave him a kiss.
"How are you feeling Ma? Is the baby close?" Big mac asked curiously.
Their mom started to smile. "I`m feeling great. I think the baby will arrive before the end of this week. She`s really close now." She proudly said.
Applejack started to smile bigger than ever before.
Their Father looked at his wife with big eyes. "Before the end of the week?"
"In 2 days to be exact" she said with a very pleased smile.
"2 days?! That`s wonderful news! Soon i will finally be able to hold my new daughter!" He said with a huge smile and then kissed his wife again.
Applejack and Bigmac hugged their mom and was happier than ever.
Then Big mac got a serious face. "Ma, I`m sorry to break the vibe, but have you heard the news today?" He asked.
Their mom started to sigh a little. "Yes, I have. I`m sure everything will go fine. It`s not much to worry about. The Princess knows what she is doing. Besides we got the Pegasus's, Unicorns and Ali corns on our side, so we`re overpowering them."
"Ain`t that he truth. Now stop talking about this darn war. Let`s just enjoy this moment." Their father said with a slightly annoyed voice.
They were at the hospital for a couple of hours before the Nurse stepped in and said that they had to leave.
The nurse stepped in, she had a very kind look about her, she was smiling. "Sorry to say this, but the visit time is over. She needs to rest and we`re gonna check so the baby is healthy and developed properly." The nurse said.
"Okay, we understand." Said the father and turned to his wife. "See you tomorrow darlin`". He said to his wife and gave her a kiss.
"Bye mom. Take care. I love you." Said Applejack and hugged her mom.
Her mom smiled. "I love you too, sugar-cube" she said and accepted the hug.
"See ya tomorrow Ma." Said Big mac and hugged her.
"Bye ya´ll. Have a great day." She said with a big smile as they walked out.
They proceeded out the door and out of the hospital.
Applejack was super excited about the news of the baby. "2 days. 2 days left until I can finally meet and hold my sister! I can`t wait!" She said when they got out of the hospital.
Big mac started to laugh a little. "I`m excited as well. Just remember to let me hold her too haha" he said.
Applejack started to giggle and looked at her brother. "I`ll try to remember that." she said with a smile.
Their father started to laugh as well. "Allright, let`s find a restaurant an`get somethin` to eat, let`s go that fancy restaurant that all of them city folks here are talking about and celebrate."
After a great day and receiving wonderful news from her mom about her sister, it was time to go home. Applejack, Big Mac and her father was almost home, they were walking on the old dirt road back to the house, it was almost midnight and the night sky was clear and beautiful. The stars were unusually bright.
Applejack was looking up to the stars the whole way home. "It sure is beautiful, ain`t it?" she said.
"Eyyyupp" Big Mac replied and let out a big yawn.
Their father looked up and saw a shooting star. "Look!" he said, "A shootin` star, Ya`ll wish something, quick, but quiet."
Big Mac wished that he would have a darn good night sleep.
Applejack looked up to the sky with her big green eyes. "I wish my sister will be a healthy baby and the war will be short. And I also wish our economy will be better." Their economy have been going downhill lately, the growth of carrots, corn and apples has been harsh this year. They`ve had trouble selling it. They also had to put a lot of money into the funeral of their grandpa who had died of an heart attack earlier this year.
Applejack saw a big star right above them. She looked at it and started to smile. "Ya`ll remember how granpa used to say that when ponies passed away they turned into a star that would watch over their family?" She asked as she looked at the star. "I bet that`s granpa right there, watchin` over us." she said and pointed her hoof at the star.
Their father looked at it and smiled. "Yes, I reckon he`s smilin` at us right now and is waitin`for his grand child to come to life. Rest in peace old man." he said and put his hat to his chest.
Big Mac looked at the star and let out a sad sigh. "I can`t believe he`s been gone for so long already. I still remember when he threw out that burglar that broke into our house in the middle of the night. Hell of a man. He protected the farm better than any guard dog ever could."
"Hell of a drinker too." Their father said. "He was a good man, i just wish he would have calmed down with the Whiskey and that Moonshine of his."
Applejack looked at her father. "Come on Pa. You know he wasn`t well after the great war. I ain`t justifyin`drinkin`. But it did help him think of other things."
"Maybe, i don`t know. Ol`granny Smith was`nt too happy about him when he was drinkin`." Her father replied.
"I guess not. But he was the best grandpa one could ask for. He taught me so many things."
Her father looked at her with a smile. "You was his little princess. You were with him everywhere, he even took you with him to his work when you were a filly. You were helpin` him on the fields cuttin` hay and planting corn."
Applejack smiled and looked at the star. "Rest in peace grandpa."
They finally got to their house, their father opened the and they all stepped in.
"I can`t wait to hop into bed..." Big Mac said with a tired voice.
"Let`s sleep. Only 2 days left for the baby to come, so we better get some good sleep." Their father said.
Applejack started to head upstairs. "You said it Pa. Goodnight y`all!" She said as she walked up the stairs.
"Goodnight Applejack!" they replied.
Applejack went into the bathroom and grabbed her toothbrush. She went on brushing her teeth and later she went into bed.
"2 days... I have waited for so long to see you. This will be the best thing ever." she said and then she slowly fell asleep.
She woke up by something that sounded like arguing. She sat up and tried to listen to what was going on. But she could`nt make sense of what was going on. She got out of the bed and started to walk downstairs.
"Ya can`t force me! I`m goin` to have a baby soon ya cold bastards!" her father yelled at someone.
"We`re terribly sorry sir. But the princess needs all men on the front lines. Your leg is battle worthy. We will give you 10 minutes to pack up and say goodbye to your kids." She heard a voice say.
"Pa? What is going on?" She asked her father.
Her father looked at her and hugged her. "I have to go to the army."
"What?" Applejack could feel her heart ache. It felt like a knife penetrated it. "Can`t you tell them that you`re expecting a baby soon?"
Her father looked at her with a sad look. "I`m sorry sugar, but they don`t care. I have to go." He shed a tear and put his old cowboy hat on Applejacks head. "Here, i know you`ve always liked this hat. It`s now yours."
Applejack started to cry. "Please Pa. We can`t do this without you, we need you..." She hugged her father and held him tightly, she tried to make him unable to move.
"Please Applejack. I ain`t callin` the shots about this. If I ain`t goin` then I will be framed as a traitor and they will put me in jail and take our farm." he said.
"Big MacIntosh. You are now the man in the house, son. Ya understand?"
Big Mac tried his hardest to hold his tears back. "I understand Pa. I won`t let you down."
"Come here Y`all." their father gave them a big hug and kept them in his arm for a while.
"I love Y`all so much. I`m so proud of Y`all." he said to them.
The soldiers came back into the hall and said it was time to go.
"It`s time to go. Hurry up soldier!" One of the soldier said with a disrespectful voice.
Their father stood up and looked the soldiers. "It ain`t like i got a darn choice now is it?. This is my family right here, Y`all take a good look at `em. Y`all darn office rats are callin`out fathers to fight those wars of Y`all`s and make kids fatherless. At least give me some more time with `em."
The soldiers went quiet. Applejacks and Big Macs father was one hell of a man and fighter. He does`nt care if you`re the King or a General. Disrespect his family or piss him off in any way and he will knock you out and stand his ground. He loved his kids more than life itself.
He then turned to Applejack and Big Mac again. "Take care of Ma and the baby now, Y`all hear?" he said with a sad voice. He was on the brink of crying.
"We won`t let you down Pa." Applejack said as she wiped away her tears. "I love you. Please be careful out there." she said.
"I will. I love you too sugar!" He said as he backed away from the house.
He got up on the wagon and started to ride away from the house. He turned around to see his kids one last time. They were standing besides each-other infront of the front porch.
"Now what?" Big Mac said with a sad voice.
"We need to tell Ma about this." Applejack replied as she tried wipe away the tears from her chin.
"I`ll tell her." Big Mac replied.
Big Mac walked inside to grab the key to the door. Applejack went to the bathroom to blow her nose and wash her face with water real quick.
She walked out to her brother on the front porch.
"Ya ready?" He asked her.
"I think so" Applejack replied.
"Everything will be alright. Pa will be home again in no-time" Big Mac said and put his hoof on her shoulder.
Applejack tried to smile but she could`nt. She just looked at her brother.
Big Mac locked the door and they started to walk towards the hospital.
When they got into the city they both stopped for a while. The whole city was empty. It almost had an apocalyptic look to it.
"This is creepy. Hard to believe that this city was full of life just yesterday." Applejack said.
Big Mac did`nt reply. They kept walking towards the hospital. They got into the hospital and started to walk towards where their mom was. The hospital was quiet.
"How should we tell this to Ma?" Applejack asked her brother.
"We should just tell her how it is." Big Mac replied.
They knocked on the door to their moms room.
(knocks on door)
"Come in." they heard from the other side of the room.
Applejack and Big Mac walked in together.
"Hey.... Why the long face? Has something happened?" their mother asked.
Applejack and Big Mac looked at each other.
Applejack walked to her mother and grabbed her hoof.
"Ma... I`m sorry to say this but, Pa had to go to the army. He went away earlier this mornin`." Big Mac said as he looked at his mother.
Applejack could hear her mothers heart brake.
"What? No." She said and started to tear up. "What about the baby? I can`t give birth without him."
Applejack started to shed some tears and hugged her mother. "I`m sorry Ma." She said.
Her mom stopped crying and looked at her kids. "I wanted to surprise Y`all today. The baby won`t come in 1 day. She will come later today." she said with a broken smile.
"What??? Today?" Big Mac replied with a shocked voice.
"Yes MacIntosh. Y`all will see your new sister today. I just wish Pa could be here and see her as well." she said with a tear falling from her chin.
Applejack got happy and sad at the same time. She`s been waiting for so long for this moment. But it did`nt feel right without her father.
"That`s wonderful news Ma." Applejack said with a sad smile.
They were all quiet for a little while. Applejack felt like crying out loud. Her father had never left her before. She had always been daddy`s girl. Applejack could`nt stop thinking about the worst case scenario. That the soldiers would come back with his Dog tags and the Equestrian flag folded into triangle.
"No! That ain`t gon`happen!" Applejack thought to herself.
Suddenly her mother told Big Mac to go get a nurse. Fast.
"Big Mac get the nurse! I think the baby is coming!"
Big Mac looked at his mother with chocked eyes. "Wha- Shoot!" He ran out of the room at an incredible speed.
"Nurse!!" He yelled as he ran through the corridors.
Applejack had no idea what to do. She grabbed her mothers hoof and was about to calm her down, but it felt like she made everything worse.
"I love you Applejack, Sugar-cube. You will finally have a little sister soon." Her mom said with a big but stressed smile.
Applejack was about to hug her mom until the nurse came rushing in with a doctor and two other nurses.
"You`re going to have to leave now miss." The doctor said to Applejack.
Applejack looked at the Doctor and then she looked at her mother. "I understand sir." She said to the Doctor. "I love ya, Ma!" she said before she walked out of the room.
Big Mac was sitting on a chair outside of the room. Applejack sat down on a chair right next to him.
She looked at her brother with a reliefed smile. "It`s happening now, MacIntosh. Our sister is coming to life." She gave her brother a hug and tried her best to sit still.
Hour after hour, they sat outside waiting for the Doctor to let them in. The room their mother was in was well isolated so they could`nt hear anything coming from the room.
Applejack could`nt sit still. So many thoughts was running through her mind.
Then suddenly a nurse opened the door. Applejack and Big Mac got excited. They looked at the nurse with curious eyes....
But the nurse did`nt look that happy. In fact, she looked rather sad.
She put her hoof on Big Macs shoulder. "I`m sorry to say this.... but your mother....." She let out a sad sigh. "The baby is healthy and well..... But your mother did not survive the birth..."
Applejack did`nt hear the rest of what the nurse said, it felt like someone shot her in the heart. She fell on her knees and started to cry.
"No..... no..... how could this happen? First the army takes Pa and now Ma is dead!" Applejack was hysterical. She could`nt stop crying. Big Mac tried to pick her up from the floor and put her on the chair again and comfort her, but he could`nt stop himself from crying.
After a while they got to see the baby. One of the nurses came out with the baby wrapped in a towel.
Applejack had calmed down, she got to hold the baby. She looked at her newborn sister and smiled.
"I guess I`m your mom now.... You`re so beautiful." She said and started to let out some more tears. She tried her best to hold it in. But too much had happened in a short period of time. She put the baby to her chest and looked at her brother. Big Mac looked back at Applejack and hugged her and gently took the baby and looked at his new sister. "She looks more like you than me, Sis" He said and smiled at Applejack. Applejack smiled back with a broken smile.
They could`nt take the baby with them home yet. And it was getting late. They had to start heading back to their empty home.
After a long silent walk, they finally got home. None of them said anything. They opened the front door.
"You go on inside, sis`, I`m gonna be out on the porch for a while." Big Mac said to Applejack, he did`nt look at her because he did`nt want to show his tears.
Applejack looked at her brother and then she looked up to the night sky, it was now two big bright stars on the sky above them.
"Okay, Big Mac. Goodnight." she said with a tired and broken voice.
Applejack went inside and before she could take the first step up the stairs she could hear her brother cry. She slowly walked up the stairs, it felt like she would pass out. When she got upstairs she felt like she had to vomit. She ran to the toilet and started to vomit straight into the toilet. She wiped her mouth and flushed the toilet and tried to brush her teeth. When she got out of the bathroom she went into her sisters room. She looked at all the toys and the Teddy bear.
"How could everything go so wrong? What happened to yesterday?" She asked herself and started to cry.
She eventually went to bed and tried to sleep. But she could`nt. And the noise of her brother crying did`nt help. She wanted to try to comfort him and be there for him. But she knows her brother, he wants to be alone when he is sad.
After hours of rolling around in bed and having tears stream down her cheeks, she finally fell asleep.
What was supposed to be the best day of her life ended up in being the worst day of her life instead.
After a long night, it was finally morning. Applejack had barely slept anything. She had been falling asleep just to wake up again the whole night. The sun was shining into her room, Applejack had no idea what time it was, and she did`nt care neither. She was just laying in her bed, glazing at the roof. She could`nt wrap her head around what happened the day before. It was too unreal, like a nightmare. She tried to think about what to do, but all she could think about was her parents. And her newborn sister, who had to grow up without her mother, hopefully her father will come home soon so she could at least grow up with one parent. But until then it was up to Applejack and MacIntosh to take care of her and raise her. Applejack kept glazing at her roof for a while. She eventually looked at the clock. It was 14:30. Applejack had never woke up that late before, but then again, she barely got any sleep last night. She slowly got up, when she got up she looked down on her bedside table and saw her fathers old hat that he gave her the day before. She picked it up and put it on her head.
She walked up to her mirror and looked at herself for a while.
"You look like a mess." she said and kept looking at the mirror. Her eyes were red from all the crying, her face was emotionless. She backed away from the mirror and grabbed a towel. She went into the bathroom and took a shower.
After a long shower she walked downstairs and tried to find her brother. But he was no-where to be found. She walked into the kitchen and saw a note on the table. It was from Big mac. She picked it up and read it: "I`m on the hospital to visit our sister."
Applejack went upstairs to grab her key and went outside and locked the door. She started to walk towards the hospital. The road towards the city felt longer than ever before. After what felt like hours of walking she finally reached the city. The city was quiet and not many people were outside.
When she headed towards the hospital she saw a crowd outside the entrance, and also some soldiers. Applejack picked up her speed and almost ran towards the hospital, a soldier stopped her from entering and asked her to state her business: "Hold it right there! State your business young lady." the soldier asked her with a strict voice. "I`m gonna visit my newborn sister, sir." Applejack replied and looked at the soldier.
"Sorry ma`m, Hospital`s full. You gonna have to turn around and head back to where you came from." the soldier said and gave her a cold, careless look.
"Ain`t gonna happen! Y`all took my father away from me and I lost my mother yesterday! At least let me be with what`s left off my family!" Applejack replied with an angry and also sad voice, her voice was cracking up when she yelled at the soldier.
The soldier looked at her and then let her in. He looked at her with sympathy as she walked in. "I`m sorry about your loss, but I`m just doing my job." the soldier said when she had walked pass him.
Applejack stopped and turned her head to the side, "If your job is to keep people from visiting their family, then I think you`re working for the wrong people." she said and then kept on walking. The soldier did`nt reply. She did`nt need an answer, the silence said it all.
The soldier wasn`t lying though. The hospital was full, there were soldiers and nurses running all over the place, she heard some soldiers talking about the situation at the border of Equestria, according to the soldiers, the Northern Empire had struck them with an intense force and if this keeps up they will reach the city in just a few days. The Royal army didn`t stand a chance against the Northern Empire. The Northern Empire`s army was bigger and more advanced than the Royal Army. Princess Celestia had been calling in backup from our Allies. But they would not arrive until next week. Applejack tried to look for her father as she walked towards the baby room. But she didn`t see him, all she saw was soldiers staring at her as she walked by, it was very unpleasant to walk past them. She didn`t even want to know what they were thinking about when they looked at her.
"What`cha think about that cowgirl? You don`t see pretty little things like that out on the frontlines. " She heard a young soldier say to his friend as they both chuckled a little. "C`mere girl" he said and tried to touch her.
"Keep yer filthy hoofs to yer self!" Applejack said as she kept walking.
The soldier started to laugh. "She`s a tough one, just how I like my women." He said and slapped his hoof on her butt.
Applejack stopped and gave the soldier a powerful punch to his face that made him fall to the floor. Applejack was only 14 years old, but she was very strong for her age.
Before the soldier got up, another soldier from a higher rank stepped up. It was their Sergeant. "Knock it off, Mc Field!" He yelled at the downed soldier. "You okay girl?" he politely asked Applejack. Applejack put her hoof down and looked at the soldier that touched her, "I will be as soon as this darn pedophile is out of my sight." she said.
"Pedophile?" the Sergeant asked her. "How old are you?"
"I`m 14." Applejack replied and looked at the polite Sergeant.
The Sergeant looked at the soldier that violated her. "You disgusting pig! The General will know about this!"
The soldier got up from the floor and looked ashamed and also shocked. "14?! She looks like she`s older. I thought she was 18. She punches harder than most soldiers `round here."
"Can it Soldier!" The Sergeant yelled at him. "We can take this outside! Get out!" he yelled. He then turned to Applejack, "I`m terrible sorry about this m`am, where are you going?"
"I`m heading towards the baby room to see my sister." Applejack replied.
"Let me follow you there so nothing like this will happen again." The Sergeant said and followed Applejack.
After walking past numerous of wounded soldiers and stressed nurses they finally reached the baby room.
"Here you go m`am, the baby room." The Sergeant said when they were infront of the doors to the baby room.
"Much obliged, thank you kindly sir." Applejack replied and looked at the Sergeant with a pleased smile.
"It was my pleasure, I`m gonna make the soldier who touched you showel dirt for the rest of the war. And when you`re done, take the backdoor out of the Hospital if you don`t want to walk the same way back. There`s two soldiers there guarding it, but just tell them that Sergeant Mc Gee sent you." The Sergeant said before turning around and walking back.
"Alright, thank you sir." Applejack replied before she opened the door to the baby room.
When she stepped inside the room she saw Big mac holding their new sister. The baby room was almost empty, there were not many babies left, parents came in and brought their babies home since it doesn`t feel safe to leave the babies in a hospital full of wounded soldiers. When Applejack stepped up to Big mac and looked over his shoulder to see the baby, Big mac smiled: "She got ma`s eyes." he said with a proud voice. "And almost your colors too. I guess you won the bet Applejack, she looks more like you than me." he said and looked at Applejack.
"Here you go, hold her." Big mac said and gave the 1 day old baby to Applejack.
Applejack looked at the baby with big eyes and a huge smile. The little baby looked at Applejack with her big Orange/gold colored eyes and made a tiny giggle sound. Big mac had never seen Applejack smile that big before.
"Hi." Applejack said to the baby, "I`m your sister."
The little baby made another giggle and tried to reach Applejacks hair.
"Aren`t you the cutest lil`thing ever? You look so happy. I`ve waited for so long to meet you."
The baby smiled and looked like she understood what Applejack was saying to her.
Big mac shed a tear. It was such a beautiful moment. He wished he had a camera and could take a picture of his sisters.
Applejack looked at her brother. "She`s perfect, MacIntosh. Our sister is so beautiful."
Big mac just smiled and looked at the baby, "What should we name her?" He asked Applejack.
Applejack looked at her sister, "How about.... Apple Bloom." the baby smiled at Applejack. "You like that? Apple Bloom?" she asked the baby with a playful voice.
The little baby giggled.
"I think she likes it." Applejack said with a smile.
Big mac smiled back, "Apple Bloom it is then." He said and put his arm around Applejack and put his hoof on her shoulder.
"Because she is like a blooming flower." Applejack said and looked at her sister.
The baby reached out her arms and tried to reach Applejacks face, Applejack tilted her head forwards closer to the baby.
The baby grabbed Applejacks nose and giggled. Applejack giggled as-well.
This was the best moment of Applejacks life. She have never been this happy before. She couldn`t stop smiling. She looked at her sister with her big green eyes and kissed her on the forehead and put the baby to her chest.
Then suddenly a nurse stepped into the room, she was stressed and was talking fast. "I`m sorry, but all babies needs to get moved to a different location, we got another group of wounded soldiers coming in and they need this room." The nurse said and looked at the parents in the room.
Applejack looked at Big mac, "Maybe we oughta take her home, I don`t want to leave her here." she said and looked down on the baby which looked back at Applejack with curious eyes.
"Let`s take her home. She don`t need to spend her first days in a place like this." Big mac replied and looked at the baby and put his hoof to her chin. "Would ya like that? Go home?" he asked the baby.
The baby smiled and giggled.
"I think she likes that idea. C`mon, let`s go home." Applejack said and wrapped an extra blanket around her sister to make sure she wouldn`t get cold when they got outside.
They took the back door out of the hospital. The corridor which she came from was full of soldiers that screamed of pain and it was blood on the floor from some of them. Doctors and nurses was running back and forth. It was chaos.
Applejack and Big mac rushed away from the corridor and was approaching the back door. As the Sergeant said, there were two soldiers guarding the door. They stopped Applejack and Big mac and told them to turn around.
"Stop it right there! This door is off limit." One of the soldiers said.
"Sergeant Mc Gee told me that I could use this door." Applejack replied to the soldier.
The soldiers looked at each other. "How do I know you ain`t lying?" The soldier replied.
"Because I told her she could use the back door after a soldier had violated her." A familiar voice said. It was the Sergeant. He came around the corner and approached the soldiers.
"Sergeant Mc Gee! Sir!" The two soldiers said and saluted the Sergeant.
"At ease soldiers. Let them pass."
Big mac reacted to what the Sergeant said. "Violated??? Who touched my sister?!" He asked the Sergeant.
"Calm down son. The soldier slapped her on an inappropriate place, but we`ve dealt with him. He will showel dirt for the rest of the war. Your sister also gave him a lesson. She gave him one hell of a punch. You should be proud of her." The Sergeant replied to Big mac.
Big mac started to calm down. "I can`t be more proud of her than I already am. The soldier was lucky that I wasn`t there when he touched her."
The Sergeant looked at Applejack and her sister. "Is this your sister?" He asked Applejack.
"Yupp. She`s 1 day old." Applejack replied with a smile.
"Can I see her?" The Sergeant asked.
"Of course." Applejack replied.
The Sergeant stepped up to Apple Bloom and looked at her. Apple Bloom looked back at the Sergeant.
He started to chuckle. "She reminds me of my daughter."
"Hey there." He said to the curious little Apple Bloom and stroked her chin.
Apple Bloom giggled and looked at the Sergeant.
The Sergeant smiled and looked at Applejack. "This is what keeps me fighting. We will win this war and make sure that she will have a safe future." He said with a confident smile.
"I sure hope so." Big mac replied.
"I better get back to work now. Y`all stay safe now and take care of the baby." The Sergeant said.
"We will. Thanks again kind sir." Applejack replied as she headed out through the door.
When they got out they both shivered. It had gotten cold and the wind was strong.
The streets were almost empty. They started to walk towards the dirt road that lead home. After walking for a while they finally got home.
They unlocked the door and stepped in. They were both freezing, but Apple Bloom was surprisingly sleeping. Applejack had held her to her chest the whole way home, keeping Apple Bloom warm and protecting her from the wind.
Big mac went to the fireplace in their living room and started to throw in some logs and get some heat up in the house. Applejack sat down on the couch and looked at her sleeping sister.
"She is so pretty. Sleeping without any worries." She said and smiled.
"Eyupp. She is just like you when you were newborn. Instead of crying, you were laughing and smiled all the time. You were also sleeping the whole way home. I can tell that she will be just like you when she grows up."
Applejack smiled and kept looking at Apple Bloom. "I am so proud of her. Such a healthy and happy lil`filly. I wish Ma and Pa could see her."
Big mac sat down next to Applejack and looked at Apple Bloom. "I`m sure Ma is watching us right now and is smiling. Pa will see her when he comes home." He said and gently stroked Apple Bloom`s chin.
Apple Bloom moved her head a little bit to the left into Applejacks chest and kept on sleeping.
Big mac rose up and was heading towards the main hall. "I`m gonna go and cut some more wood. I`ll be back soon." He said and looked at his two sisters.
"Okay, I`m gonna stay here with Apple Bloom." Applejack replied.
Big mac smiled and walked out.
Big mac was out for 3 hours cutting wood. It had gotten dark and he started to head back inside with the wood he cut. When he walked into the living room he saw Applejack and Apple Bloom. Both sleeping on the couch. Applejack had leaned backwards into the couch and Apple Bloom was sleeping on her chest. The only light source in the living room was the fireplace and some candles. He quietly grabbed his mothers old camera and took a picture. He then proceeded to put some logs into the fire and later sat down on the couch and looked at his sisters.
Everything felt so good. He just wished that his parents was home and that the war wasn`t happening. But he was staying positive. He thought that the war would be quick and his father would come home soon.
