Dark Shadow is a guard for the night watch, But there is more to him then meets the eye. He is the server of the moon. The God of Darkness. He watched over the moon sense the beginning of its creation. He has secretly guarded every Goddess of the Moon. Now, sense the night watch has been created, he has joined it to protect the Goddess of the Moon. Luna.
Dark Shadow was waiting in a line to be tested by the Night Watch captain. He was a batpony that was a little taller then Luna. He had a ash grey coat with a black mane. His fangs were a little larger then average. Dark Shadow's eyes were a golden yellow that glowed like fire. His wings were larger than other batponies.
He was two away from being tested, so he closed his eyes and slowed his breathing to a standstill 'For the Goddess of the Moon.'. He opened his eyes to find himself one away from the test. " NEXT!" yelled a voice from the other side of the door. The batpony in front of me walked throw the door, and a different batpony walked out of the door. He had bruises on his face torso and sides. This indicated that the one Dark Shadow had to fight fought on all fours, for he bore no damage on his back.
Dark Shadow waited for a few minutes before hearing "NEXT!" The pony that had just went in had come out with a smile on his face. Dark Shadow entered the room and found that there was a stone ring. " Listen up! If you are able to strike my face or chest you will be granted permission to enter camp. If your able to defeat me, which is unlikely, You will automatically be put in the guard." Dark Shadow keep a emotionless expression as he stepped onto the stone ring. " This should be a little more interesting. Your Dark Shadow. You have the highest intelligent average and highest physical average of the year. Anyways, Ready ... Set ... GO!"
Dark Shadow stood on his hind legs when he herd 'GO', and got into a combat position as the captain charged towards him. When the captain was a mere inches in front of Dark Shadow, he spun and tried to buck Dark Shadow. His hooves were met with air, but his face was meet with a solid kick to his muzzle, which, effectively broke it. The kick mad him stand on his hind legs, but was hit in the chest with a powerful punch, which shattered his armor like glass. The metal of the armor cut and impaled the captain as he flew backwards towards a wall.
When contact with the wall was made it cracked. The captain slid down the wall to a siting position, but when his flank touched the ground, he let of a glass shattering scream.
Medical units and Princess Luna herself came bursting through a door on the other side of the room. When the medical units first entered the room, they were confused to see Dark Shadow standing on his hind legs, but the confusion was replace with fear when he pointed towards the slumping figure of the Night Watch captain. It did not help then when he stood on his hind legs. He was slightly taller then Celestia when on his hind legs, which made him look extremely intimidating.
While the medics treated the injured captain Luna approached the towering figure of Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow lower himself then bowed when he was on all fours again. " Did you do this to the my captain?" Luna said in a strict voice. She was trying to be intimidating, but she wasn't; well at least to Dark Shadow she wasn't.
Dark Shadow unbowed and rose to a standing position. With a emotionless face and emotionless tone he replied. " Yes, this would be my undoing, Princess of the Night." Luna was a little shocked at how calm he was around her.
" Well, that is quite impressive considering you have not been trained yet. I would like you to follow me to the armory to get you fitted in your armor." Dark Shadow gave a sight nod in response.
They pair walked through the door that Dark Shadow had walked through. All the batponies that were in the hallway instantly bowed at the sight of the princess of the night. The bowing ponies were confused at why Dark Shadow was walking with the princess, but all made sense when Luna said " What weapon type do you use?"
" I tent to be skilled at a broadsword while also using a spear." Luna nodded her head, but looked over at the stallion that was following her. She expected to see excitement or fear, yet he showed nether, and keep a emotionless tone and face. " I believe we have arrived, Princess of the night."
" Yes, it seem so. I will order your weapon set from the blacksmiths, while you go get fitted for armor." Dark Shadow nodded and went throw the door.
When he opened the door, he was meet with the sight of two night guards guarding a desk with a orange coated stallion siting behind it. Dark Shadow closed the door and walked towards the desk. " Hello. I'm Well Fitted. I am assuming you are here to get fitted for night guard armor." Dark Shadow nodded. " Excellent! Follow me."
Dark Shadow did as told and followed Well Fitted around the desk, and into a back room. Well Fitted told Dark Shadow to stand on a pedestal, which he did with out complaint. Well Fitted started to measure Dark Shadow's body to fit him in his armor. After about 25 minutes of measuring, he went through a side door. The side door lead to the armor room.
" There! This should fit perfectly." Well Fitted walked out of the room with a set of Night Watch armor on his back. " Here, try them on!" He said excitedly.
Dark Shadow inspected the armor for any flaws, but found no major ones. He slowly started to equip his armor. He started from the boots up. He reached his chest piece and buckled it on. His sight landed on the helmet. He turned with out the helmet and was about to walk out the door, before it swung open, hitting him in the face.
He was not moved by the door, but his face shattered door's part of contact. Dark Shadow herd a gasp com from the other side, which had a Night Guard caring a spear and broadsword on his back. Dark Shadow moved away from the door to show his uninjured features. " Shit! Sorry, are you alright?" said the guard. Dark Shadow nodded his head. " Anyways, he are your requested weapons. The Night Guard are going to be changing places with the Day Guard in about a hour, so Princess Luna has ordered me to tell you to met her and her sister in the training field." once again, Dark Shadow nodded and began to walk towards the training field.
Dark Shadow knew the castle like the bottom of his hoof, because he had been watching over Luna sense her return to Canterlot, and before. He paid close attention to the halls she walked, and quickly memorized them.
Dark Shadow walked out into the training field and instantly saw the royal sisters. When he was a few meters in front of them, he stopped and bowed. " I see what you mean, Sister. Not even slightly nervous." Celestia stated curiously. Dark Shadow unbowed and looked at the princesses emotionlessly. " You must be very skillful to defeat Luna's captain in such a short time, so my former Day Guard captain wishes to challenge you in combat."
" Yes, before you ask me for permission to duel I-" Luna started, before being interrupted
" Goddess of the Night, I will fight this former captain in combat, but my only question is when will this duel begin?" Dark Shadow interrupted.
" It will begin tomorrow, for Shining Armor is already here in Canterlot." Luna explained. " But until then, My captain of the guard wishes for a rematch with you, but with weapons."
" I except his challenge, Princess Luna." Dark Shadow stated. There was a chuckle coming from his right. " I see that his challenge stands for right now."
" Correct you are, Privet." Dark Shadow turned to see a certain unicorn captain dressed in armor with a claymore on his back. " I will redeem myself from defeat, and will send you to the medical wing! Anyways, follow me to the fighting ring." Dark Shadow followed the captain to a stone ring; similar to the on inside. " Prepare yourself." The captain grabbed his claymore's handle with his teeth, while Dark Shadow stood on his hind legs. All while unsheathing his blade from his side with his hoof, and took his spear off of his back.
The Captain finally unsheathed his blade, and held it sideways in his mouth. He was slight did a double take seeing Dark Shadow on his hind legs, while holding a sword with his right hoof, pointed it at the captain. Dark Shadow also held his spear behind his back, similar to a scorpion. The point of the spear came over his right shoulder about 6 inches, while the blunt end of the spear was showing from his right side for about a foot.
Without warning, the captain shot towards Dark Shadow. He stopped in front and spun with his sword his sword, but only sliced through air. A searing pain was shot through him as Dark Shadow impaled him through both his hind legs with his spear. The captain was heaved upwards at incredible speeds. The last thing the captain saw before losing consciousness, was Dark Shadow jumping in front of him with his weapons sheathed. Dark Shadow raised both of his hooves in the air and conjoined them together, before swinging them downwards lightning fast. The last thing herd was a sickening crack as the captain was rocketed towards the ground. Upon contact, the ground shook, cracked, and broke, Thus rendering the captain unconscious...
Princesses Luna and Celestia stared wide eyed at the fallen captain of the night guard. Dark Shadow had did this attack so fast, that the princesses were hardly able to track what happened. The only reason that they were able to track, not see, this attack was because they were able to sense magic in the two guards.
Dark Shadow landed beside the fallen captain, while cracking and breaking the ground beneath him, for he was about 15 meters in the air. He stood up on all fours, then walked over to the unconscious figure imbedded in the ground. Once he was sure of the captain's unconsciousness, he looked towards two awe struck princesses. " I believe that the duel is over, now may I meet this Shining Armor?" Dark Shadow asked emotionlessly.
Luna started to open and close her mouth like a fish as she tried to think of something to say. Eventually, she was able to say, " Y-yes you may meet Shining Armor, b-but Cadence is also here, s-so you will have to meet her as well." With a nod, Dark Shadow walked over to the princesses.
" I suggest that you get a medical team to treat the captain of the guard." Dark Shadow said, before the entrance door was shot open, reviling a white unicorn with purple armor. He trotted towards the group with Princesses Cadence and Twilight Sparkle.
When the unicorn made it to the group of alicorn and batpony he said, " What was that explosion sound!?" Dark Shadow pointed towards the hole he had created with the Night Watch captain. Shining looked at the hole wide eyed with his jaw open largely. " Did you do t-that?" he stammered.
" Yes, this my doing. I believe you have challenged to duel me as well?" Dark Shadow asked.
" Y-Yeah, I did challenge you." Shining Armor said.
" I hope our duel will be a challenge for you." Dark Shadow said with out taking his eyes off the goddess in front of him. He suddenly turned his head towards Shining Armor. " Excuse my words, Prince of the Crystal Empire." He said with a bow.
" Umm, that's ok. I really don't like to be called prince, but thanks for showing respect." Shining Armor said. Dark Shadow nodded before turning towards Cadence.
" I apologize for disrespecting your husband, and Twilight Sparkle, I apologize for disrespecting your sibling." Dark Shadow said.
Cadence giggled at his words before saying, " No harm done."
" Its alright. Everypony makes mistakes once in a while, besides what kind of Friendship Princess would I be if I didn't accept your apology!" She said with a small laugh. She looked at little saddened that she was not able to make him smile, but she gained a grin, for Pinkie Pie was soon going to be here.
" Twilight," started Celestia, " Were are the rest of the elements?" Twilight gained a nervous smile.
" I may have gotten really exited about coming to see Cadence, so I sort of teleported here. But! they should be here shortly." Celestia giggled at Twilight's nervousness, but nodded and looked back at the silent Dark Shadow.
" Dark Shadow, if you can prove your worth and dedication, then I will have a proposition for you." Dark Shadow nodded his head, but saw pink blur try to tackle him. He jumped to his hind legs, while sticking out a hoof, catching the crazed mare by the throat. When he had a grip, he spun around, smashing the mare into the ground, which made the ground crack from the force.
" OWWWWWIE!" Screamed the pinned mare. Celestia was about to yell at him to stop, but was interrupted by a rainbow ring. A rainbow meteor shoot towards the form of Dark Shadow. He saw this coming, so he let go of the injured mare and spun around. He stuck his hooves out, which made contact with the rainbow meteor. He was slide back a few inches, but eventually was stationary with a rainbow mane his hoof, which was attached to a squirming mare. Before he could question her, a pair of hooves bucked him in the chest. The buck made him fly a few feet backwards, but the buck had only cracked his armor, for Dark Shadow was almost indestructible. The hit should have made the armor dent and impale him, but it did not. He through a hoof forwards, making contact with the ground. He used the extra momentum to spin on his hoof, kicking his new assaulter in the jaw, which made a sickening crack. The orange mare, obviously with a broken jaw, skidded across the ground, but stopped after about fifty feet.
Before anything else could happen, a violet shield surrounding him. He traced the magic to the Princess of Friendship, who had tears in her eyes. Dark Shadow walked up to the shield, and with a half hearted punch he broke the entire shield like glass, which made the lavender Princess scream in pain. He turned his gaze to the left to find a light yellow mare flying in front of him. " HOW DARE YOU HURT MY FREINDS!!!!" she screamed. She looked right into Dark Shadow's eyes. Dark Shadow could sense a power behind those eyes, but it did not effect him in the slightest. He shoot a hoof forward, grabbing the mare by a tuff of fur on her chest. When she realized her stare did not work, she stared into his eye with fear in her own eyes. Before long, the mare was bawling her eyes out, pleading for him to '' Let go," and " Please don't hurt me."
In her Royal Voice Luna shouted " STOP DARK SHADOW, NOW!!!" Complying, Dark Shadow dropped the mare, which made her 'eep!'. Dark Shadow looked at the injury he cause, but did not care for the ones he was attacked by in the slightest. He eventually found the angered face of Luna, and the shocked face. of Celestia. " YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR THIS, WHELP!!!" Before Dark Shadow could say a thing, he was struck by a navy blue thunderbolt, which came from Princess Luna. He flipped backwards from the strike, but completed the flip, landing on his hind legs.
He looked at Luna, who had let off her steam from the striking Dark Shadow, but was still angry. Shining Armor and the Princesses each walked over to one of the downed mare, and casted healing spells on them. In seconds, the mares sprang from there downed positions and all glared at Dark Shadow. He looked towards the entrance of the training field, which reviled a white unicorn with a over styled mane. She had shock across her face as she stared at the figure of Dark Shadow.
" Dark Shadow," Started Celestia" Why did you assault the bearers of the elements?" Dark Shadow looked into Celestia's eyes with no emotion.
" I Believe they are the one that assaulted me. The pink mare tried to tackle me, but you can see where that lead. The others attacked me with areal attacks, and Bucks as well." Celestia noticed it did look like that he was attacked by Pinkie Pie.
" Oh, I see were you were confused, but the pink mare, or Pinkie Pie, was most likely trying to hug you, for she has not meet you. As for the others, they were defending there friend," Celesia stated.
Dark Shadow nodded but had one thought in his mind,'That could of had a better outcome.'
" GET YOUR LAZY ASSES UP!" yelled the captain's temporary replacement. Dark Shadow open his eyes, and hopped out of bed, stretching his limbs. He looked around and saw that the other guards were waking. " 10 LAPS AROUND THE TRACK! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!!!" Dark Shadow walked out of the door into the fresh, night air.
Dark Shadow passed many guards on his way to the track, but was stop by a fellow night guard. " Hey, rumor has it that you defeated the captain. Is that true?" Dark Shadow looked down at the guard and nodded his head before continuing his walk to the running track. He reached the track and got into a running position, while waiting for the replacement captain to give the word to start.
" READY ... SET ... GO!" Dark Shadow gave a small amount of his true speed to find himself in front of the running team. After about a minute, sompony pulled up beside him. The other guard, thinking he was funny, stuck out a hoof, intending on tripping Dark Shadow. When the hoof was stuck out, the only thing there was air, and not a pony. Instead, Dark Shadow was running backwards in front of him. The night guard had a combined emotions of awe, confusion, and anger on his face. Before the guard could do another thing, Dark Shadow spun around, and applied massive pressure to the ground under his hooves, which made him rocket three time as fast as before.
In a few minutes Dark Shadow had run all his laps and walked up to a awe struck captain. " Damn soldier! Your sure as hell fast, and your breathing hasn't changed at all." Dark Shadow nodded before standing beside the captain.
Dark Shadow waited several minutes for the rest of the guards to finish there laps, before gaining the next order. Group fighting. Dark Shadow was paired with two muscular stallions, that came to about the middle of Dark Shadow's neck.
It was eventually decided that they would both team up on Dark Shadow, because of his size, and rumored skills. Dark Shadow stood on his hind legs, while getting into a defensive position. The two stallions charged at the awaiting Dark Shadow. They both turned around, and bucked there back legs to try to over power Dark Shadow, but did not find the satisfying physical contact of bucking him. Their hooves found nothing but air, but their faces were meet with a powerful punch, that made them slide back several feet. Before either could react, one of them had there hind leg grappled, and was sent flying from being heaved upwards. The grounded guard looked at Dark Shadow, but his face was meet with a hoof, which made his body turn 180 digress. He grabbed the now turned stallions hind leg with a hoof, then swung his body in a arc, which connected with air born stallion. There was the sound of bones cracking and armor clashing together when the connected, but there was twice as many cracks and clashes when they were both smashed into the ground.
Luckily for the guards, they both fell into unconsciousness when they first made contact into each other, but they were most likely not going to be on guard duty for awhile. Dark Shadow looked over to a awed captain. He jumped down from the stone ring, landing on all fours, and walked towards the captain. " Sir, I believe the duel is over." Before a word left the replacement captain mouth, a white hoof was put on his shoulder.
" Its time for my duel, captain." The voice and hoof belonged to Shining Armor. Shining armor was dressed in his normal violet armor, but had a helmet, matching his armor, and a broadsword strapped to his side. " Are you ready to duel me, Dark Shadow?", Dark Shadow nodded and stepped back onto the stone platform. Upon reaching the stone arena, the two he had beaten before were just now pulled of the stone platform by medical units. He walked over to the far side of the ring, and stood on his hind legs, while unsheathing his spear and sword.
" GO SHINING ARMOR!" Screamed a lavender mare, and a pink mare. Dark Shadow looked in there direction to find Twilight Sparkle, and Pinkie Pie yelling, while the rest of the Element Bearers were waiting for the duel to began. Celestia was behind them with a motherly smile on her face. Cadence was also spectating, but had a worried look on her face.
He brought his attention back to a glowing Shining Armor. He had a small amount of magic flowing off his eyes. With out warning, Shining Armor teleported next to Dark Shadow, while swinging his, now unsheathed, broadsword with a magic grip. Dark Shadow move his head aside just in the nick of time, for the tip of the blade hardly missed Dark Shadow's face. While moving his head, he spun his spear, and shot the tip of the spear forward, but only to have Shining Armor teleport away.
Dark Shadow felt his magic move behind him, so he jumped a few feet away, before throwing his spear at the collecting magic. The magic formed into Shining Armor, who moved his head to the side, but earned a deep gash across the check. Now that Shining Armor was distracted, Dark Shadow shot forwards like a bolt of lightning. He jumped a foot in the air, while spinning around once , but not before sticking out one of his hind hooves, which made contact with the side of Shining Armor's head. Luckily for Shining Armor, he had put a body shield on, which shatter, but only moved him back a couple of inches.
While Shining Armor recovered the attack, Dark Shadow swung downwards, but Shining Armor recovered fast enough to defend himself. Shining Armor brought his sword up to bat away Dark Shadow's, but Dark Shadow's blade stayed stationary against his blade. Shining Armor focused all his magic to his sword, attempting to push away Dark Shadow, but failed. Shining Armor was growing tiered, and his broadsword was constantly wobbling against Dark Shadow's , unmoving, sword. Before anypony realized it, Dark Shadow had a grip on the handle of Shining Armor's sword. Dark Shadow pulled with little of his strength, which tore it away from its magical grip.
Dark Shadow struck out a hind hoof, which made contact with Shining Armor's breastplate. The contact with the breastplate both made it shatter like glass, and made the wearer fly backwards a few feet.
Shining Armor was laying on his back, right next to the edge of the stone ring. He looked down at his chest, only to find it impaled with hundreds of tiny shards of metal. His view was interrupted with a hoof grabbing him by the neck. He was lifted to eye level of Dark Shadow. There was painful pressure in his lungs as he looked into the eyes of Dark Shadow. In Dark Shadow's eyes, were filled with sorrow, pain, and anger, but not with out massive amounts of power. There was no love, friendship, or remorse behind the stone like, yellow eyes. Before any more thought could be put into the matter, a hoof smashed into Shining Armor's face, which rendered him unconscious.
Dark Shadow tossed the unconscious stallion off the ring before looking at a shocked group of ponies. Dark Shadow jumped of the platform with his sword, and Shining Armor's sword crossed across his back. When he landed, he dropped to all fours, and walked over to the spectating ponies. Upon reaching the group, there was a huge magic spick coming from Cadence. Gritting her teeth, she shot a bolt of electricity at Dark Shadow, which was deflected by Dark Shadow pulling out his sword, and swiping it sideways. The blade was glowing red from the intensity of the electricity. " YOU WILL PAY FOR HARMING HIM!!!" Cadence said before spreading her wings, and shooting towards Dark Shadow.
Cadence was a few inches from making contact with Dark Shadow, but he rolled out of the way right before she hit. Dark Shadow stood on his hind legs, while drawing Shining Armor's sword. As for Cadence, she dug her hooves into the ground, effectively stopping herself. She stopped right next to Dark Shadow's spear, which she grabbed with a magical grasp before turning towards Dark Shadow. With out warning, Cadence shot forwards, pointing the spear forwards. Dark Shadow spun while moving to the left. He dodged the spear tip with success. He used his spin to kick Cadence in the back of the head, which made her skid across ground for several seconds.
Cadence got back up, and looked at Dark Shadow. As Dark Shadow looked at Cadence's eyes, Dark Shadow could see that they were completely filled with rage and hatred towards him. He knew fighting Shining Armor would be risky. He knew Cadence would feel hatred towards him if he hurt Shining Armor, but he underestimated her anger.
Dark Shadow was too in his though to notice a pink meteor crashing into him. The meteor keep taking him towards the wall on the far side of the training field, but eventually smashed right into it. Cadence was looking him strait in the eyes, while pinning him against the wall by holding his fore legs out. Before she did another thing, a dark alicorn yelled " Cadence stop this at on- " She stopped, because she saw a wooden shaft sprouting out of Dark Shadow's chest. It belonged to the spear, that Cadence shoved through his chest on contact.
Dark Shadow looked down to find the shaft's end beside Cadence's head, and traced the shaft to his chest. Black blood was around the puncture wound. Instead of pain, he felt great anger. Narrowing his eyes and gritting his teeth, he looked at Cadence, who as soon as she saw his glace, she felt great fear and dread.
For a split second, Cadence could of sworn that she saw a completely black alicorn with pupil less eyes and pearl white teeth wear Dark Shadow was being held. Before she could understand the matter, she was sent flying backwards clear across the training field by I unseen force and crashed into the wall. The unseen force knocked her unconscious on contact.
All eyes were wide, except for Dark Shadow's, and were all on the unconscious figure of Cadence. Dark Shadow was on the ground and was slightly breathing heavy, for the spear was still imbedded in his chest. He grabbed the shaft of the spear, and forced it in farther, which made it burst out of his back. Reaching around his back, he grabbed the shaft that was now sprouting of his back, then snapped it. He through the other broken piece to the side, while pulling the bigger piece out and throwing it to the side too.
Dark Shadow stood back up and looked at the unconscious body of Cadence. He felt a magical power approaching him, and quickly. Jumping backwards while doing a back flip, he dodged the incoming magical power. When he landed, a dark blue alicorn, stopped with a powerful beat of her wings. She spun around to face him and charged up her horn, but stopped in her tracks when her sister, Celestia, yelled in her royal voice, " SISTER, STOP AT ONCE!!!"
Still glaring at Dark Shadow she said, " Why should I!? He hurt our niece!"
landing beside her sister, she said in her regular voice, " Because Cadence attacked him first and he was using self defense." Luna flattened her ears to her head and got out of her combat stance. She sat down while looking at Dark Shadow with ... Gazing's eyes. Her eyes sparked a memory. A bad one...
} 42,000 Years ago {
Dark Shadow was standing on the roof of the church of the moon and sun, looking out over a forgotten city by the name of Tridon. He was in a form of a completely black alicorn with pupil less eyes and pearl white teeth. He was clad in a navy blue set of armor with a black hood covering his features, and two black bladed broadswords crossed across his back. The armor was made of the essence of shadow, and had runes traveling along the armor. All the runes took a path to the breastplate of the armor, which had a bright white crest moon in the center. His swords had runes going down the blade, that were carved all the way through the blade, so you could see through the other side. The hilt of the blades were bright white with crest moons on each end of the hilt. The handle was a basic wood, but was enchanted so it wood not burn or break. As for the bottom of the handle, it was a ring of steel that had a black crest moon in the center.
He stood on the church, standing like a bipedal, watching the alicorns below going about there daily duties, but they were also standing on there hind legs. While he was looking around, he spotted a tavern. Realizing how parched he was, he spread his wing and flew down to the door of the tavern. He pushed open the door to enter the building, and was meet with the smell of rum that hit his nose like a powerful buck. He walked up to the bar, and took a seat on one of the numbering stoles. " A rum." Dark Shadow said emotionlessly to the bartender.
" 3 bits, please." The bartender said. Dark Shadow reached into a pouch at his side, and pulled out three copper coins and through them onto the counter. The bartender took them and placed a mug of rum on the table, which Dark Shadow took and started to sip at it. After a few sips, a commotion started to go on in the back of the tavern, which Dark Shadow decided to check out.
Upon reaching the commotion, he was met with the sight of 4 guards harassing a smaller alicorn mare. " Come on, give us a good time, sweet ass." the guard facing away from Dark Shadow said.
" Piss off!" the girl screamed at the, now angered, guard.
Grabbing her arm, the guard shouted, " Now listen her, bitch. You ar-" Dark Shadow had enough of this, and decided to take action. He ran up behind the guard and spun the guard around. Dark Shadow reared back a hoof, and shot it forwards, making contact with the guards muzzle. Blood sprayed from the nose of the guards as he fell backwards from the punch.
The other guards drew there swords, and charged after Dark Shadow. stepping backwards, he unsheathed both of his swords and got into a defensive position. The first guard spun around, swing his sword. Dark Shadow ducked while spinning with his swords stretched outwards. His sword sliced through the guards mid section like butter.
He jumped backwards and landed on his fore hooves, then he flipped again; landing on his hind hooves. The second guards tried to thrust his sword into Dark Shadow, but he crossed his swords and moved his torso to left a little, which made the blade barely missed his neck. The guards sword was stopped halfway through its trust. Dark Shadow used his swords like scissors and cut the guards blade in half. Dark Shadow shot out his right hoof sword, and impaled the guards chest. A guard came from his side, and did a diagonal slash, but found that Dark Shadow had moved.
Dark Shadow had let go of the handle of his right hoof sword, and spun around, the now falling, guards body. He found himself behind the confused guard. Dark Shadow swung his sword, and sliced right through the neck of the guard, which decapitated the guard. Before the second guards body fell backwards, Dark Shadow grabbed the handle of his other sword and pulled, freeing it.
He turned to face the last guard, but the guard was shaking in fear. Dark Shadow sheathed his swords, then walked up to the trembling guard. The guard was sitting on his flank staring at Dark Shadow with terror. When Dark Shadow reached the guard, he picked him up by the neck and smashed him against the wall, which rendered him unconscious instantly.
Blood soaked the floorboards beneath Dark Shadow, but oddly no blood was on his swords or armor. He went back to the counter grabbed his drink, and chugged it down before putting it back on the table. He went the door, but not with out looking at the surrounding crowd first. All of the tavern's visitors, and the bartender, all looked wide eyed at him. The mare he saved was in a state of shock, but still stared at Dark Shadow non the less. With a final grunt, Dark Shadow opened the door and exited the building. Spreading his wings, he flew of into the afternoon sky.
It had been a few hours after the bar fight, and Dark Shadow was resting on a statue in the royal gardens. He was watching Gazing, the moon goddess filly. He was invisible to the filly due to a spell. Gazing had a light blue, almost white, mane. Her coat was a navy blue, similar to Dark Shadow's armor. Her eyes were a moon grey, but she was not blind like most ponies would think.
She was playing with her brother, Flare. Flare was a orange colt with a yellow mane and tail. His eyes were red-yellow color. He was also next in line to be the god of the sun, while his sister was next in line to become the goddess of the moon.
Dark Shadow herd the call of a bird. He turned to the sound, but only found a crow on the statue opposite to him. Unknown to Dark Shadow, a red ball was heading towards him. When he felt the presents of a approaching object, he turned around, catching the ball out of reflex. He made a grave mistake, for because of his fast motion his spell broke.
Realizing his mistake, he looked down at two wide eyed children. He decided that now that he was know, so he might as while talk to the two children. He hopped down from the statue , while dropping the ball at Gazing's hoofs. " Hello, Gazing. Hello, Flare. I am Dark Shadow, the Protector of the Night." He did not tell of himself being a god, for it may trigger them to run.
The children were silent for several moments before Gazing quietly said," H-hello." Flare was still quiet, but seemed to calm down." I like your armor, Dark Shadow" She said while admiring his armor, but also at the same time trying to make conversation in the odd moment.
" Umm, You want to play ball with us?" Asked Flare. This is the first time that Dark Shadow was caught by the royal family. He had no idea on what to do or act. Shaking his head, he looked over his should, for he had herd a rustling sound from a bush. Before he did a thing, a little rabbit hopped out of the bush." Why won't you play ball with us?"
" I am not suppose to even be known by you, prince Flare." Dark Shadow started to walk away, but was stopped by two navy blue hooves rapping around a round his left, hind leg. Looking down, he was meet with a stare that would put Fluttershy's stare to shame. Looking into her eyes, he found he was feeling a emotion he had not felt in centuries. Guilt.
Finally looking away from the gaze if Gazing, he sighed. " I suppose I can play, but only for a short time." Smiling in success, Gazing released Dark Shadow's leg, then walked over to the playing area. She looked back at Dark Shadow and waved him over, which Dark Shadow obeyed.
The games stared with how far somepony could kick the ball. Gazing started the little competition by kicking the ball about 25 yards. She put her fore hooves on her waist and smiled proud at her kick. Next was Flare. His kick went a little farther then Gazing's. Next up was the God of Darkness, Dark Shadow.
He toke a few steps back before charging forwards, kicking the ball. The ball when clear over the castle, and was still going upwards. Looking back down to the two children, he was meet with wide eyes and gaping mouths. The both fumbled with there speech while trying to say something, but nothing came out for quite some time.
After a few moments Flare shouted, " HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!", Blushing when realizing he used his royal voice. Dark Shadow, slightly worried, casted a spell to render him invisible.
He cloaked at the right timing, for, the God of the Sun burst through the door to the gardens with a few readied guards. He trotted over to his tomato red son, and glared at him with a questionable look. " Son," the King started," Why did you use your royal voice?"
Flare gave a very nervous smile before chuckling nervously. " Well you see . . . uh-"
} 6 Months later {
Dark Shadow was watching the foals below playing a game of tag. These foals happen to be, Princess Gazing, and Prince Flare. Today was Flare's birthday, so Dark Shadow decided to make himself known after these six months of hiding. He was standing on the highest point of the castle, while having a spell of invisibility applied.
Spreading his wings, he lifted off into the air. As he rose to the sky, he started to have second thoughts about making himself known, but this second shot was shattered when both the royal children looked directly a the invisible figure of Dark Shadow. No dote that they had heard his flapping wings.
Sighing in defeat, he deactivated his invisibility when he touched the ground. Both foals looked surprised at first, but smiled at him. " Hi Dark Shadow!" Gazing exclaimed. She turned back to her brother, and with one swift motion tagged him while he was distracted. " Tag! your it!" she said running away, giggling.
Flare started mumbling under his breath as he gave chase for his sister. Dark Shadow, amused, gave a small smile at there sibling tactics. He smiled till he herd a cry of pain, which made him go back to his emotionless expression. He teleported to the sight of the accident.
When he reached his destination he was granted the sight of Gazing sitting on her flank with a gash across her hind leg. She was crying at the wound, and her brother was freaking out asking if she was alright. Dark Shadow approached Flare before asking, " What happened?"
" Sh-she was running a-and tripped b-but cut her leg on the root sticking out o-over there!" He exclaimed, while pointing his hoof at a nearby tree. The root was sticking out of the ground, but was oddly sharp. Snapping his attention back to the wounded Filly, he walked up to her while crouching down.
" Princess Ga-" He was interrupted by her wails of pain. " Gazing plea-", but was interrupted again. Reaching his last option, he pulled down his hood, and forced Gazing to looked directly into his snow white eyes. She stopped crying the instant that she looked into his eyes. She was so captivated that she did not feel a hoof touch her leg with a spell of healing. The spell was a group of shadow tentacles, that sowed her injury together. The tentacles healed her wound when they finished sowing the wound; they did so without leaving a scar.
Dark Shadow pulled his hood over his head, which covered his eyes. When the gaze was over, Gazing blinked rapidly before coming to her senses. Dark Shadow stood up, but turned invisible when he herd the beating of hooves. Deciding he had enough drama, he teleported away right when the king asked what happened.
} 10 1/2 Years Later {
Dark Shadow was sitting on the edge of the roof to the castle, while watching the festivities of Gazing's 16th birthday. Dark Shadow had shown himself over the years of Gazing and Flare's, who was now 17, life. They had drawn close, like friend and friend.
Gazing's expression showed she was very bored, but she tolerated it. She was most likely waiting for the party to be over, so she could meet with Dark Shadow. The only thing that struck Dark Shadow odd was she was very shy about asking him. He just let it go, but it still nagged in the back of his head.
She also looked a great deal different then when she was a filly. She had her mane in a pony tail that went over her shoulder. it came about a foot under her shoulder. She tended to wear a silver band around her left fore hoof. Her eyelashes were also the perfect length and shade of black, well at least in Dark Shadow's mind. In all honesty, she was very beautiful to Dark Shadow. Shaking his head, he dispelled romantic thoughts. She would never fall for him . . . Right?
Shaking his head once more, he flew down to there meeting place, the royal gardens.
} Several Hours later {
Dark Shadow was sitting in a tree while he waited for Gazing. He was thinking about how there meeting would go, and the activities of the meeting. His thoughts were interrupted by a female voice calling his name.
Dark Shadow hopped down from the tree, and was meet with the sight of the bipedal figure of Gazing. She smiled at his towering figure, for, she only came up to his lower chest. Walking up to him she wrapped her hooves around him, which surprised Dark Shadow. " I was so bored with out you there." She said softly.
Dark Shadow was still doing a double take of what just happened. He was not used to any type of love, well minus friendship. He looked at her with a confused look. " C-can you pull down your hood?", she asked timidly, looking up to him, but still with arms wrapped around him. He obeyed and pulled down his hood. His soot black hair went down to just under his chin. His eyes pierced Gazing's soul as she looked into his snow white eyes.
Deciding to act similar, he wrapped his hooves around her waist. " You know what I like about your eyes?" Dark Shadow gave another confused look. " They hold so much power. Like when the day I feel playing Flare, your eyes helped me forget the pain I was in. They also hold so much knowledge." She turned her head sideways, and rested it on Dark Shadow's chest.
Dark Shadow was completely out of his element, but decided to rest his head on top of hers, like the couples around the city. They both listened to the crickets in the bushes and trees, while also listening to the small stream that flowed through the royal gardens. Last but not least, they could her each others heart beats and breathing.
Dark Shadow suddenly remembered what he was, and tried to push down the need to be close to the mare in front of him, but couldn't find the willpower to do such a thing. " Gazing there is something I have hid from you and your brother sense our first meeting."
" What is it?" she asked sleepily.
" I am not what you think I am. I am not a stallion, but a god. the God of Darkness." Dark Shadow finished sadly.
She let off a small chuckle, then looked up at him with her beautiful grey eyes. " I already knew that Dark Shadow." she said.
" How?" Asked a confused and surprised Dark Shadow.
" The day I first looked into your eyes, I saw the power you held. Your power was like nothing I had ever seen. It sounded like a old fairy tale my father used to tell me." She gave off a kitten like yawn before continuing, " So I started to go over the old tales, and found a story of you, the God of Darkness. The story said you protect the God or Goddess of the night, but it was very undescriptive, and that is all the information in that book."
Dark Shadow's mind calmed, for, she had not learned of his darkest secret. Gazing went back to her position on Dark Shadow's chest, and Dark Shadow went back to positioning his head on top of Gazing's.
After a few minutes, Gazing looked up to Dark Shadow, and to his surprise, she pulled him into a kiss. His eyes fluttered to a close as he put love into his kiss. " What do we have here?!" a voice yelled from behind Gazing.
Gazing broke the kiss to turn towards her brother, who had the cheesiest grin on his face. Gazing sighed, but not before turning back to Dark Shadow. " I'll talk to you later." she said turning towards her doomed brother.
Dark Shadow could not hear there shouting as he was in deep though. His darkest secret must be performed in exactly 3 months. This secret would tear apart his relationship with both, Gazing and Flare. He had to kill there parents, for, it must be done every 10,000 years to please the higher powers of the universe. He must kill Gazing family...
} 3 months later {
The dreadful night had come. On this night, he had to kill the parents of his loved one. And he hated that.
In the three months that they been together, they had spend a numerous amount of hours together. The two alicorns found love in place they would not have expected.
Dark Shadow was walking up the plentiful white steps to the palace. The full moon was high in the Sky, and hade a strange blue tint to it's surface. The night sky was loaded with thousands of stars.
He reached the top of the steps within minutes. Reaching forwards, Dark Shadow slowly pushed the door open to the palace.
His action was meet with gasps. There were about five guards coming into his view, who were all drawing weapons. " Halt! You are under arrest for trespassing!" a nearby guard shouted. Ignoring the guard, he drew his twin blades, and got in a defensive position. Before any of the charging guards could come within ten feet of Dark Blade, he let of a powerful shockwave of shadow magic, which knocked the guards back several feet.
As the guards started to rise from there fallen places, Dark Shadow split himself into five clones, and each clones shot towards the guards as a shadow at hypersonic speeds. When a shadow approached the fallen guards, it materialized into a clone of Dark Shadow. This was the same for every other shadow. Each clone flipped there right hoof sword into a backwards grip. They then all brought there blades down into the skulls of the half risen guards.
Satisfied each guards was dead, all of the clones transformed into shadows, and flew towards there origin. the shadow conjoined then materialized into Dark Shadow.
He continued his walk to the throne room. Each of his steps clacked heavily against the marble ground. He started to think what would happen if he didn't kill Gazing's parents. But dispelled the thought, for, if he did not keep the balance, this world would be no more.
He was standing in front of the huge door to the throne room, which should have the king and queen switching there rule at the moment. He bucked open the door with one of his hind hooves, which left two very surprised alicorns. " King and queen of Equestria," Dark Shadow started, " you must be killed to keep balance within the realm. I am sorry, but I must kill you."
Shaking his head, the king shot a sun bolt at Dark Shadow, The bolt struck true, but Dark Shadow did not move, nor even flinch when the bolt made contact. The king was surprised at Dark Shadow's tolerance, but that surprise was soon filled with fear when he felt the amount of power radiating of Dark Shadow.
As his magical power rose, his body began to change. He gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes, while pulling down his hood, as he changed. His coat and eyes started to flash from black to white, then white to black. In a burst of dark energy, the form of Dark Shadow had changed to a pure white coat, but still had a black mane and tail. His eyes turned from a snow white to a glowing black with shadows running off of them.
Charging forwards at speeds any light could not hope to come close to, he stood in front of the king of Equestria, but the king had a black blade impaled through his chest. As the king looked down at the pain, blood exploded from his gaping mouth. he crumpled to the floor, dead.
By the time the queen figured out what had happened, Dark Shadow already had his broadsword through her chest. She did not die right away, but she did fall to the floor. With the blade still in her chest, she looked up at Dark Shadow with teary, pleading eyes. " Don't hurt my children." was the last the thing she said before the cold embrace of death toke her.
Dark Shadow turned back into his original self with a small burst of dark energy. He tore the swords out of the chests of the king and queen. He looked up, so he could exit the room, but what he saw completely shattered his soul and heart. Gazing, with tears streaming down her face, was standing in the doorway to the throne room. she mouthed ' How could you' before running away with a scream of sadness...
Dark Shadow was looking at the ground as a single tear left his right eye. He looked back up to find a confused looking Luna. " Are you alright, Dark Shadow?." Before Dark Shadow could answer, a pink alicorn walked into view. Dark Shadow got into a defensive position, but Celestia told him she meant him no harm.
Luna, Celestia, and Cadence's eyes widen realizing a spear was stabbed through his chest. The all rushed up to him, but were dumbfounded to find he bore no wounds. Dark Shadow feel onto all four hooves and looked Cadence in the eyes. "My I ask why I was attacked, and how you are able to walk right now, Princess Cadence?" asked Dark Shadow.
Cadence looked at her hooves while shuffling them. "Well, I attacked you on impulse, because you hurt Shiny. And I am healed because my aunt healed my wounds." a tear feel from her eye."I'm sorry." she said sadly. Dark Shadow nodded and looked back over to Luna.
"May I have my assignment, Princess Luna?" Dark Shadow asked.
"No, I would like you to rest." Nodding his head, Dark Shadow walked towards the exit of the door, then exited the training yard.
"Sister," Luna started," There is something off about Dark Shadow."
"Yes, I did notice that he is quite odd." Celestia stated.
Both royal sisters turned towards Cadence only to fine Shining Armor sitting and nuzzling Cadence, who was letting tears fall from her face. From behind the main six were walking towards the tearful mare with surprised and dumbfounded faces. Twilight walked to the other side of Cadence and sat down. "What's wrong Cadence?" Asked Twilight.
"I-I hurt him. I-I don't w-want to hurt an-anypony." Cadence said tearfully. Celestia trotted up to Cadence, while nudging away Twilight. Celestia sat down beside Cadence and wrapped a wing around her, while whispering that it will be alright.
Luna was in her own thoughts of this new guard. He has shown great feats of strength and agility and has the discipline of war hardened veteran. He was able to fend of a alicorn and defeat one. While it Cadence was not the strongest alicorn, she was still very powerful. Some how Dark Shadow was even able to use shadow magic. The amount of magic used from his split second attack was enough to rival herself. Before much more thought could be put into the matter, her sister voice broke her out of her thoughts, "Sister, what did you want to speak about, concerning Dark Shadow?"
"Yes, he is very powerful. Something strikes me odd though, for a split second while he fought Cadence he gave off a massive burst off shadow magic that rivals my own." Luna said.
"But, how? He's not a alicorn and dose not look old enough to have being able to master it. Plus he doesn't even have a horn!" Twilight shouted.
"That is true, but he obviously still has magical abilities." Luna said, but couldn't help but wonder if she was imagining the burst of magic. "He must have use magic. If he did not, then he would not have been able to through Cadence like that." Luna finished.
"I agree sister, but the matter is still very odd." Celestia said while thinking of possible conclusions. " We could question him to get answers." Celestia stated.
Considering the options, Luna agreed that this conclusion is best for the moment. "We should wait till the morn, though." Before Celestia could agree, that sound of flapping wings could be herd. Everypony turned towards the sound, but only to find a armor less Dark Shadow. Surprised, Luna asked "Were you listening to us speak, subject.?"
"Yes, but seeing that I will eventually be caught, I will leave you with this ... 'Where the moon goes, the darkness will follow. In the moon's best time, it will fall from the darkness.'. If tell me what I am, then I will give you the knowledge you desire, Princess Luna." Before anypony could protest, he spread his wings then lifted into the air. Luna tried to capture him in a magical grip, but it was broken by Dark Shadow with ease.
"Sister, I believe that I have herd that sentence before." Celestia said.
Luna agreed with a nod, but was still surprised that her magical grip was broken. "Yes, that riddle does sound familiar, but I can't remember from where I have herd it." Luna Said.
Twilight spoke up next, "I think I have herd it from a book in the archives. I can look for it if you want."
"Yes Twilight, that would be best." said Celestia.
} Castle Roof {
Dark Shadow was looking out over the city of Canterlot, remembering when he was elected as God of Darkness. His years as a god have not been pretty. He has caused death and grief beyond measure, but he has done good in his past.
Closing his eyes he thought,'This guard idea may not have been the best chose. I should have just disappeared. it would have been easier. I wish my brother was still in the realm of the living, he always had good advice for me when in a time of need.'
Reopening his eyes, Dark Shadow walked towards the edge of the roof. He closed his eyes, and shadows started to swirl around him as his body started to change from a batpony to a much more powerful form. He reopened his eyes, but instead of eyes with yellow iris, there was only pure white eyes that glowed a dull aura. His once ash grey coat was changed to a pitch black. his mane grew a few inches to just come under his chin. His height had increased by a great amount. While standing on all four hooves, he was about seven inches taller then Celestia, but on his hind hooves, which he was on, Celestia only came to the middle of his chest. His figure was covered in navy blue armor that had white, glowing runes running across that surface, but the ruins came to a end at the chest were a moon crescent was glowing. This armor had a black hood and black bladed swords. This was the armor of a god. The God of Darkness...
Okay, as some of you might know, i'm not very good at updating, BUT i have decided to comeback to this story. I will make a remastered version i guess and i will slow down. Before i was moving faster than road runner on a sugar high. The story will also be slightly changed, but nothing major. I will update this one one more time when the other version is out, after a week this story shall be deleted. Have a nice day/evening/night.
