THE ACADEMY
A TALE BY COOLIOTO

Harmony was born perfect. Everything about her was just... perfect. Golden mane, an ivory coat, beautiful sea green eyes, not to mention the honor and rarity of being an alicorn. Her mother was a unicorn, her father a pegasus. That parental combination is common , but having a horn AND wings is literally one in a million. And everything was perfectly balanced. Her wings and horn were normal sized, she had no brain damage, no mixed-up organs, no complications at all. She was perfect. And so she was named; Harmony Star.

Harmony's life wasn't always perfect. She was often made fun of in school for having both wings and a horn. She was labeled a "freak" and a "weirdo". She never fit in and often had to hide her horn or wings. After a while, though, she decided to be more open with her abilities. Though she was taunted even more, she always felt proud of herself

Once she was of age, her parents sent her off to study at "The Academy", a very popular college. By then, she was eighteen. And here is where the story starts. Be ready.

My Little pony, My little pony,
I can't decide what to do.
All of these people; making fun of me.
Until I met you...
I used to wonder how it'd be..
to have friends, as perfect as these!
(da, da, da [dadada, dada da da] da, da, da [dadada, dada da da])
It's a magical thing that makes my life complete!
My little pony,
Do you know you're all my very best friends?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'I CAN MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS, MOM!"

"We know you can, honey, but you need to learn more than just levitation and flying."

"YOU DON'T NEED TO SEND ME TO BOARDING SCHOOL, WITHOUT MY OPINION, JUST TO TEACH ME SOME PARLOR TRICKS!"

"Honey, you can get a career from the things they teach you! I went, and I'm a very well-respected attorney."

"You still can't convince your daughter of anything."

This fight had been going on for a week, and it had evolved from small discussions into shouting matches. Bright was getting tired of his only daughter and his wife bickering all the time. He decided to step in.

"Plum, Harmony, settle down. Harmony, we want you to go. Whether or not you do is your decision. Spending time there is a good investment. You'll get a good education, and you might make some friends." Harmony settled at that. She looked at her dad, standing in the kitchen doorway. She wiped tears from her eyes as she spoke softly.

"I'm sorry, dad. I just want to have some say in what happens in my life." Harmony started to cry a bit as she muzzled her dads neck. Plum watched from a distance before resuming packing Harmony's things. Bright stared as a familiar lavender glow surrounded an old, sad teddy bear and lifted it from the ground.

"Harmony, do you want to take Mr. Snuggle with you?" Plum asked Harmony, trying to enter some normality into the situation.

'Mom! Why are you even asking?" A golden aura surrounded the toy as it was gently inserted into the suitcase.

"That was the last thing. We're done packing!" Plum said as she closed the bag and lifted it up with her magic. "We need to get to the train station."

"Lets go then! we don't want to be late!" Harmony grasped her bag with magic before leaping out the front door and extending her wings. Her dad followed suit as her mom cried out "Wait for me! I'm not a pegasus, you know!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The train station was a crowded mess. There were ponies everywhere, and people had to watch out for a stray horn or open wing. They almost couldn't find the train to Canterlot. Once Harmony got on, she found a spot next to a window and waved goodbye to her parents.

"I love you! Mail us every week!"

"Hope you have a good time! Don't date too many boys!"

"Dad!" Harmony blushed as she said goodbye over the roar of the crowd.

The conductor called out "ALL ABOARD" as the train whistled and pulled out of the station. Harmony's parents waved to their daughter as she left their sight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harmony sat back in her seat and watched the hills go by. After a while, a young pegasus colt, about her age, walked up and asked "Is this seat taken?"

"Of course not!" Harmony motioned for him to join her. He put his bag under the seat and slid into the seat across from her.

"My name's Silver Sea. Yours?" The colt asked. He had a silver mane and an indigo coat. His cutie mark was one of a wrench.

"Harmony Star. I'm going to the Academy. What about you?"

"Same. I'm going on an engineering degree." He lifts up his flank too show his cutie mark.

"I was accepted on my... special terms." Harmony extended her wings and parted her mane to show her horn. She had a blush on her face, and looked embarrassed.

"Wow! A real alicorn! I never thought I'd meet one!" He had a look of awe on his face as he gaped at her magnificent wings and beautiful horn.

"Wait... you're not freaked out? Usually, everypony just laughs, stays away, or both. Are you just making fun of me?" Harmony's eyes started to well up with tears.

"No! I never would do something like that! I envy you, really!" His face was one of concern. He moved next to her and comforted her.

Harmony stopped crying, and looked up a Silver.

"Thank you," was all she said as she embraced Silver in a hug.

"No problem." He managed after his shock of Harmony hugging him.

They remained embraced like that for quite a while, and the rest of the train ride passed uneventfully.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The train pulled into the Canterlot station. As Harmony and Silver disembarked, they looked around to see some notice of where the academy was. They found a sign pointing to the upper class district. They cantered (as do all ponies in Canterlot) past many small, vibrant shops to a large stone building with a stone arch doorway and a massive carving that read simply "The Academy". Underneath was a small banner reading "Orientation Today". Silver was the first to speak.

"Well, I suppose this is it." Silver opened the door to the Academy as Harmony entered her new home, and new life.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear mom and dad,

I have made a new friend, named Silver. He taught me that I should never be so quick to judge a pony, and that everyone has good in their heart.

Sincerely,

Harmony

"Welcome, students, to the Academy for Gifted Ponies, also known as The Academy." The students were seated in a large auditorium, with thousands of seats. Harmony and Silver sat next to each other in the back row (they had gotten there rather late) and watched a small, studious unicorn stand on the stage in front, amplifying her voice with a spell.

"You have been chosen, because of your special skills, to enter our classes and become the educated ponies of the future!"

Silence.

"This place of learning will be your home for the next four years, over which you will learn a trade, master an art, perfect a profession, and can a career" The unicorn said the last three words with a playful giggle, which was met, again, with silence. Her jovial attitude seemed to dissipate as she walked off the stage, saying a few last words.

"Okay, here's your headmaster, who'll talk to you about what you'll learn this year."

An old unicorn, probably in his seventies, took center stage. He looked around the massive room at all the young ponies who had come to his school, and spoke in a raspy, thin voice.

"I am B. Rony. You may call me Headmaster Brony. Here, you will learn in many subjects." he lifts up a scroll with a gray aura, "We have Flight Training courses," Nearly every pegasus was cheering. "Many Magic courses," Now it was the unicorns turn. "Physical education," He scratched his beard with obvious distaste. "Plus, we have classes such as Alchemy, Biology, Home Ec, Engineering-" Silvers attention was immedeatly drawn to Starswirl. "and many more. After this reception you will be given a list of your classes and their locations."

"This school was founded in 207 AB (after banishment) by Princess Celestia herself..." Silvers attention was lost as he retold the history of The Academy.

"And so, The Academy was founded."

"Finally. I thought that was the entire four years." Silver whispered over to Harmony, who giggled. A few ponies looked, but Silver stared them down.

"Once again, I wish to welcome you to The Academy. Pleas look for your room number on the bulletin board outside, and ask dorm reception for your key. Class starts on Monday." Starswirl announced.

Ponies immedeatly rushed out the doorways to find their room numbers. Being on the back row, Harmony and Silver were among the first. Harmony looked in the mare section for her room number. She found it and waited for Silver to do the same. Once they both had their room numbers, they walked over to the dormitories, where they split up to enter the gender-separated apartments.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HARMONY

The mare at reception was friendly, finding Harmonys room key with ease.

"Just up the stairs, third floor, and fifth door on the right." the receptionist said with a smile. "Oh, and I believe your roommate is already there, and she brought a friend..." The receptionist said with a slight smirk, as if she knew something Harmony didn't

"Okay then... Thank you." She went up three flights of stairs and turned right. "One, two, three, four, five!" She opened the door using the key and looked around her new home.

Her roommate was had an orange coat and a green mane, but Harmony couldn't make out the details of her face due to the stallion who was embracing her. He turned around at the sound of the door opening and shouted "WHAT THE BUCK?" The roommate looked sternly at Harmony and asked profusely.

"Who the hell are you?"

"My name is Harmony star, I live here!"

"Well so do I!" Suddenly the receptionists words made sense. This was her roommate, and her "friend" was this stallion.

"I'm going to leave, of that's okay..." The stallion said meekly as he rushed out.

"See what you did? We were just about to..." The mare sniffled and started crying.

"I'm so sorry! Was he your..."

"Long time friend. I've wanted to get together for a while, and he finally got the hint today, and we were just about to kiss!" A fresh stream of tears ran across her face as Harmony ran to comfort her.

"Go after him! Now! GO!" Harmony yelled as a sort of pep-talk. The mare realized what she was saying and ran after him, wiping tears off her cheeks and the redness from her eyes.

"Well, I guess that's my new roommate."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SILVER

The stallion at the reception regarded Silver grudgingly, as if he were an extra piece of work at the end of the day that nobody wanted to do. He paid most attention to the newspaper in his lap.

"Gimme your room number and get out of here."

"345"

"Here's your key." the receptionist handed the key over, never looking up from his newspaper.

"Jeez. Lazy much?" Silver thought as he made his way up the stairs to room 345. He unlocked the door and looked at his new home. He liked his roommate already. That is, until he burst through the door a few minutes later, with his lips locked with an orange and green mare. The roommate's coat was a dark red, and his mane light blue. He opened his eyes to see Silver standing there with a confused look on his face.

"Aww, not this again!" He sighed before returning to the mare, who he escorted into his bedroom.

"Well, I guess that's my roommate."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At that instant, both Harmony and Silver looked out their windows, only to find an alley. on the other side, though, they saw a window through which another pony was gazing. To their surprises, they saw each other. Silver motioned for Harmony to open her window, and then he reached around in his bag (The Academy made them drop their bags off at the entrance to the campus) and fished out an empty can with some string coming out of the closed end. He opened his window and tossed the can across the alley. Harmony caught it and spoke into the can.

"I had a strange encounter with my roommate just a few minutes ago. I walked in on her and a stallion..."

"Weird. My roommate walked in with a mare and then just went into the bedroom. Your roommate doesn't happen to have an orange coat and a green mane, does she?"

"She does!"

"That's just freaky." Silver said a he flapped his wings and managed to get through the window into Harmony's place.

"Nice place you have here."

"Thank you."

"I brought a chess set. Want to play?"

"Sure! I'm pretty good though."

"It's on!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear mom and dad,

I met my new roommate. She's very... exciting to be around. We started out on the wrong foot, but I helped her out with a problem, and now we're friends. I learned that, while first impressions are important, second impressions are what really count.

Sincerely,

Harmony

Flight Class

"See you later, TS!" Silver said to his roommate as he left for classes. "Don't get Garden pregnant!"

Silver smiled as he left his dorm. his new roommate, Top Speed was a pretty nice guy, and his new girlfriend "Garden" was a hoot and a half. Halfway out of the dorm buildings door, he spotted Harmony, though there were a couple ponies surrounding her. Silver ran over to help only to be blocked off by one of her assailants.

"Harmony, what's wrong?" Silver cried out over the pony's head.

"Nothing, just... go to class!" She shouted back.

Silver, despite Harmony's warnings, tried to pass the goon in front of him, but to no avail. Feeling tension rise, he scolded "Let me through!" But it had the opposite effect intended. Instead of letting him pass, the goon landed an uppercut to the jaw. Seeing this as an invitation, he took a stance for a punch, and got a jab to the stomach, which he avoided, and grabbed the goon's hoof and pulled backwards. He fell over and got slammed into the ground. He wasn't unconscious, but he should have had a serious headache. Silver looked at the other pony and asked the question on his mind.

"What is going on?"

"This freak shouldn't be in a school like this. It," he said the word in disgust, " should be dealt with immedeatly." He practically spat the last sentence out.

"This 'it' is a pony, and you should threat her like one! Or do you want to end up like your friend dirtface over there?"

"Dwufd be, u do wot." Said a muffled voice from the ground where the fallen pony lay.

"Leave her alone! Now go run to your Racism 101 class." Silver threatened with a finality as the ponies ran off.

"Are you okay?"

"Thank you for protecting me, Silver. Thank you." She embraced him for a second time and wept into his coat.

"Let's get you to class, okay?" Silver said, not realizing that this whole ordeal had them both late for class.

"Okay."

"Flight 101 is one of the toughest classes you'll have in your life. Now, I'm not going to let any of you get badly injured, but this will be painful, rigorous activity. By the end of the semester, you'll be sore in every muscle and bone in your body, but you'll be a better flier." All this information was released into the crowd of pegasi (and one alicorn) in a few simple sentences by a drill sergeant of a teacher who wore a baseball cap on his head, a whistle on his neck, and carried a clipboard in his hooves.

"Now, Let's see what you're wade of! In front of you, you have a course set up to test your speed, strength, and agility. You will come forward as I call your name. Alfred Allen, come on up!"

-------------------

"Sally Sam, come up!" What seems like forever, but really was only about 45 seconds, stood between Silver and this test.

"Silver Sea!" Silver recognized his name and came to the front of the crowd and stood i front of the teacher, who pointed to the entrance of the course. It was a cloud tunnel that traveled around a bend, so you couldn't see where it was going.

"Get going!"

Silver needed no further push, and flew straight into the cloud tunnel. he turned the bend and saw many pillars of cloud standing in the way of him and the rest of the tunnel. He flew past a couple, but then he hit one. The act of colliding with the pillars caused a roar of wind to flow from the end of tunnel. It hit him and dropped him at the beginning of the pillars. "Okay, so," Silver thought to himself,if I hit one of the pillars I get blown to the entrance. Simple enough. Silver attempted it a few more times before succeeding. A look of triumph crossed his face as he passed without any collisions.

The next room was large and roofless. There was a doorway on the opposite wall, raised about 30 feet up off the floor. "This is easy." Silver imagined himself flying up to the door. He opened his wings and took off. Once he got under the roofless part, he felt a very powerful downdraft that pushed him to the floor. He realized what the challenge was immedeatly. He extended his wings and pushed down hard. He rose a little off the ground. He repeated the process again and again until he was level with the door. He gently lowered himself in. He felt sore all over already.

He looked into the next room. It was a simple corridor. He flew through the door and suddenly a cloud zoomed by, and blocked the opposite door. He backed into the doorway. The cloud appeared right next to him. Silver started to flap his wings and rise in the air. He got into a racing stance, then sped past the cloud with all his speed. It followed right behind, slowly gaining on him. He put on an extra burst of speed and made it into the door before the cloud could block it off.

He followed the last hall until he came out into sunlight. The teacher was standing near the exit and clicked a stopwatch as Silver stepped out.

"Five minutes. Not bad."

"Thanks, teach.

Advanced Magic

View Online

"In Advanced magic, you will be taught and tested until your horn and your mind are sharp." The same wiry old unicorn from the beginning of the orientation was teaching this class. She looked around at the room filled with unicorns (and one alicorn) and surveyed her class.

"Now, lets get right to buisness. A simple levitation spell. Let's go!" She placed feathers on the desks. A rainbow of colors shot up from horns and feathers as students lifted the feathers.

Harmony thought of the feather lifting in the air. A golden glow surrounded her horn and the feather as it lifted into the air.

"Now we'll try something heavier." Anvils were placed on the desks.

"Really?" Harmony thought. She lifted the anvil with a bit of effort.

"Once more." Now medium sized statues were placed in front of the students. Harmony lifted hers with a strain.

"Last time." Finally, the teacher dropped large boulders in front of her students. Harmony thought really hard about lifting that boulder, and when she finally did, she was exhausted.

"Raise your hand if you lifted the feather." All of the students raised their hands.

"Keep them up if you picked up the anvil." A few students dropped their hands.

"Statue." About half the students dropped their hands.

"Boulder." Harmony kept her hand raised. She looked around but saw no one else with their hand up. She realized what she had done and blushed.

"You lifted the boulder?"

"Yes mam."

"That was a ton."

"What?" Harmony had a surprised look on her face.

"How long have you been practicing magic?"

"Since I was three or four."

"Do you have any past experience with heavy objects?"

"Not really, mam."

"Then how could you have lifted it?"

"I think it may have something to do with these..." Harmony mumbled as she extended her wings. She looked down at her hooves, secretly wishing Silver was a unicorn and could come to comfort her.

Gasps rang out through the hall. The teacher had a surprised look now. She stared at the wings.

"You... Your... You're an alicorn!"

"Yes." Harmony mumbled again. She looked at the teacher.

"Well, I guess it makes sense to be good at magic. Alicorns have the magic power of pegasi and unicorns. Well, uhh, let's get back to class, I guess." Throughout the rest of the class people looked at her and mumbled behind her back. Even the teacher stole occasional glances. Harmony felt like an outcast, which she was. She had never felt so dejected in her life.

------------------------

As class ended, Harmony made her way through the crowd which parted in front of her. She walked out and ran straight to her dorm. She sped past the receptionist who only got halfway through a greeting before being completely dismissed. As she blasted through her door, Garden Grow wheeled around and went to comfort Harmony.

"It's okay, I heard what happened. It's okay. They're all jealous of you. You are twice as good as them and they think that you should be punished because of something you were born with. That isn't right. They should be punished. But you're better than that. You know what's right, and you'll do it. I'm sure." Garden belted out in one breath.

"Is Silver in his dorm?" Harmony choked through the tears. Garden went to check. She leaned out the window and yelled into the opposite dorm.

"Top Speed? You there?" Top Speed cantered up to the window.

"Is Silver there?" Silver now stood by the window.

"Harmony wants you. It's about... today." At this, silver leaped the gap and landed in the window across the alley.

"Harmony? Are you okay?"

"In one brilliant move, my entire class found out that I was an alicorn. I feel so embarrassed. All I did was lift a boulder."

"What?"

"The teacher tested us to lift stuff with our magic, and the last thing was a boulder. I was the only one to lift it, and I showed my wings to everyone by accident."

"You know what? Everyone else is really jealous. You're strong in here," Silver poked her horn, " and here," He tapped her wings, "but you need to be stronger in here." He tapped her chest. She understood.

"I'm sorry. I'll be stronger in my heart."

"Good. Now, clean yourself up. I'll take you to lunch."

"Okay."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear mom and dad,

My new friends helped me out with something horrible today. I was in Advanced Magic, and some ponies made fun of me. My friends had my back and were there to help me get through it. I learned that, while my friends have my back and are ready to catch me when I fall, I must be stronger myself. I can't let these bullies get to me. I'm fine the way I am.

Sincerely,

Harmony

"I don't care what they say about you, but you are the most beautiful mare I've ever seen."

"Oh, Silver, do you love me?" Harmony begged for an answer, but not before an image of another friend went through her head.

"Always."

Silver Chalice trotted up to Silver Sea.

"Hey, SS, what's up?"

"Nothing much, Chal." This odd friendship had been struck up when both ponies responded to a call in Alchemy. They shared similar interests, as well as a favorite hoofball team.

"Hey, I was wondering if you're interested in that friend of yours, Harmony. I mean, you don't want someone to take her before she's ripe for you, right?"

"I'm taking things slow with her."

"Dude, you need to take action. It's just, well..."

"Hey, bro, if you want a shot at her, go ahead. I just want anything between us to be legit romance."

"Hey, man, thanks. I'll just test ride, okay?"

"Bring her back, now."

"Will do."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"One moire date, and then I'll get some. That bitch (I'm so very sorry for word choice) is holding out on me." Chalice stood next to silver in the courtyard after classes.

"Woah, dude, is that what this was all about?"

"You didn't expect anything real out of me, right?"

"You're going to devastate her!"

"And you're going to tell her? You're her best friend, one who comforts her, one who very clearly has the hots for her, and you're going to ruin her relationship to get some? Even she can see through that, dumb as she is."

"What are you talking bout? She's not dumb, and I certainly wouldn't ruin her relationship so that I could get with her!"

"Would she believe you, considering the fact that you just broke her and me up?"

"You are a cold, evil bastard."

"What are you going to do? Tell her?"

Silver stomped away and galloped into his dormitory.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey, Top Speed, I need some help."

"With what?" Top Speed looked at Silver questioningly.

Silver filled him in on the details, and Top Speed's face changed from puzzlement, to amusement, and then to hatred.

"That bastard!"

"I know, and I can't tell Harmony!"

"Okay, I have a plan."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This is silly."

"It's the only way."

"That doesn't mean it's the best one!"

"Actually, it does. If there's only one way, then it's the best way."

"It's also the worst way."

"Shut up!"

This banter was going on as Top Speed and Silver hid in the shadows, approachind a video camera set up on the courtyard wall.

"Is finding the security footage of me and Chal talking really the only way to tell her?"

"Are you a unicorn with a memory spell?"

"Shut up."

They were directly under the camera now, and Silver flew up and removed a disk which could have only been memory.

"Got it."

"Good, now let's get back to the dorm."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Is there something you wanted to show me?" Harmony looked out her window into the opposite living quarters.

"You and Chal. Could you get him?"

Silver Chalice joined Harmony at the window and watched Silver Sea move a television into their sight.

"Watch this." Silver said as he pressed a button on a remote pointed at the TV.

The screen flickered and danced to life as it showed two ponies talking in a courtyard. Silver pressed another button, and the video was accompanied with sound.

"-ne more date and I'll get some. That bitch is holding out on me."

"Woah, dude, is that what this was all about?"

"Chal, are you talking about... me? You said you loved me!" Harmony's eyes filled with tears as she turned to her coltfriend and questioningly looked at him. Chalice's eyes grew larger as he witnessed what was going on.

"YOU BASTARD!" Chal shouted before he walked out the door. "THIS IS NOT THE END OF THIS!"

Harmony's eyes widened as she heard the comment about Silver liking her, and then cringed as Chalice made a remark about her being dumb. Silver turned the movie off and stuttered, "I'm sorry, Harmony."

"Silver, you don't need to be sorry. You brought me out of a bad relationship, and that is something I can only repay one way."

Harmony lifted her wings and lept across the alley separating the two rooms. She touched down, and moved over to Silver who was looking at her like a crying child being presented with a toy.

Harmony looked into Silver's eyes, leaned forward, and kissed him on the lips.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear mom and dad,

You have heard of my relationship with Silver Chalice, right? Well, it turns out he just wanted... well, you understand. I was ignorant about this, and then Silver Sea proved that Chalice was using me. I realized that sometimes you have to pay close attention to your friends, and then the people you care about show themselves.

Sincerely,

Harmony

Authors note: You did not think the story would stop there. To quote someone, "The show must go on!"

Silver awoke in the morning to find Harmony's hooves wrapped around him in an embrace. (No, nothing like that happened. It was a cuddle-sleep.) He stared at this sight, a bit shocked at this, before he remembered the events of the previous night. He smiled as he recalled Harmony kissing him. When he looked back at Harmony in the bed, next to him, and found her eyes open and looking at him. She smiled warmly and was about to say something before Silver silenced her with a kiss. He pulled away and finally broke the silence.

"Did you sleep well?"

"How could I not? You're next to me."

"Are you two lovebirds up yet?" Harmony and Silver looked at the doorway, only to witness Top Speed Burst into a fit of laughter. "You should see the looks on your faces! Anyway, guys, we made breakfast."

" 'We?' " Silver asked. Garden Grow appeared in the bedroom doorway next to Top.

"Yes, we made you breakfast. It's just eggs and toast."

"Okay, we'll be out in a second." Harmony said. Top and Garden both left the doorway and gently closed he door.

Harmony and Silver gazed at each other.

"I guess we better get going, then."

"Okay then." They left the room and entered the kitchen of Silver's dorm.

"Here you go, guys." Garden Glow handed two plates to Harmony and Silver. They took them and placed them at the kitchen table.

"Let's get to class!" Silver started to gather assorted notebooks and binders.

"What do you have today?"

"Biology."

"Me too!"

"It's a date." Silver joked.

"Let's go." Harmony slung a bag around her neck and nudged Silver out the door. They walked out of the dormitory and towards the biology classroom.

"You know, I have my next period free. Do you wanna get lunch?" Silver tried to ask nonchalantly.

"And miss geometry? Hell yeah!" Silver smiled as Harmony giggled.

They entered the biology room, sat down next to each other, and listened to the lecture.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RRRRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGG

Everypony rushed out of the room at the sound of the bell. Harmony and Silver trotted out of the school gates and entered the Canterlot. They walked up to the cheapest restaurant they could find, which was called "Sid's Sandwiches" They came in and ordered.

"So, I wanted to talk about our relationship status." Silver spoke in a hushed tone.

"Dating."

"That was simple."

"We are out, together, and we've kissed. That qualifies it."

"Well then, I'm glad! Not that I wouldn't be, it's just that-"

"You're new to this. I am too. I haven't been in a real relationship ever."

"But that thing with Chal-"

"He was just in it for sex. It wasn't real."

"Okay. If I do stupid things, forgive me."

"Of course. If I do stupid things?"

"Ditto."

The person at the counter called out an order of cheese fries, an LTO (lettuce tomato onion), and a Dandelion Special.

"That's us." Silver walked to the counter, payed, and picked up the food. He set the food down on the table and talked to Harmony about some new things in his Engineering course. They finished their food and returned to the Academy.

The art of staring pt1

Author's note: This chapter is a pile of poop i threw together at the last minute.

Silver had never had a match this long his whole life.

It started at the first bell of the day, and it was currently lunch.

Neither of them had blinked.

Silver was starting to realize why people didn't do staring contests anymore.

His opponent was completely black, with a gray mane and a cutie mark of two open eyes.

I'm screwed, Silver thought. His talent is LITERALLY staring.

"Hey, honey. How were your classes?" Harmony walked up to him and pecked him on the cheek.

"Fine. I've made a new staring rival."

"Really, Silver? A staring contest?"

"Yes, and it's a real doozy. We've been going since first bell."

"I'm going to go to second base with you tonight."

Silver did a double take and blinked a couple of times before realizing the that she was tricking him.

"Ok, you got me, I blinked." Silver looked dejectedly at the ground while Harmony rolled on the floor laughing.

"You should have seen the look on your face! My sides are hurting!" She continued cracking up, and Silver couldn't resist chuckling too.

"Stop it, people are staring."

"Isn't that what you want?" Harmony just couldn't stop.

Harmony was still snickering when they trotted into Harmony's kitchen.

"Okay, okay, what do you want for lunch?"

"A chance to show yo how awesome a staring contest is!" Silver demanded.

"Okay then, one sandwich and a children's concentration game coming right up."

"This is not funny. There are people who have gotten scholarships and degrees off of this!"

"How shallow is this school?"

"Very."

"Here's your sandwich." Harmony motioned for him to sit down at her table, and he did.

"You ready?"

"Go."

They both stared intently into the other's eyes, eating their lunches as they did so. This caused them to giggle, as they missed their mouths most of the time, but neither blinked.

They were still staring.

Still staring. They were done with their lunch.

Staring.

"This is boring."

"Very."

"On the count of 10."

"Okay. One-"

They both blinked and sighed in relief.

"Never do that again?"

"Agreed."

Just then, the door opened and Top Speed and Garden stepped in.

"Wait, are classes over already?"

"Yeah."

Harmony and Silver exchanged glances. Then Silver spoke.

"She was just wondering because... I... uhh...-"

"-Pulled me out of class early!" Harmony nervously finished the thought.

"Then why were you too just staring at each other?"

"What? How'd you know?"

"I stopped by our place before going to meet Garden, and you weren't there. I looked out the window, and saw you and Harmony in your apartment just looking at each other."

"We were having a staring contest."

"WHAT? Oh Celestia, this is too good!" Top Speed was laying on the floor, cackling like a madman. Garden soon joined him, and then they all were laughing on the ground.

"Wait, when did you two start?"

"Lunch."

"What's your longest game?"

"Actually, we only played one. We decided to tie a few moments before you walked in."

"Woah, you've had one consecutive game since lunch? That's impressive. I don't think that Open Eyes has ever gone further than 5 hours. You guys were bordering on 6!"

"Really?" Silver had an impressed look on his face, and looked at Harmony.

"WE WENT FOR 6 HOURS! THAT'S A RECORD!" Harmony was giggling with glee.

"Hey, you guys should go talk to Open about a tournament."

"Really?"

Harmony and Silver Exchange surprised glances and reply in unison.

"It's on!"

"Three..."

Why did I have to get into this?

"Two..."

I don't even like staring contests.

"One..."

Imscrewed imscrewed imscrewed!

"STARE!"

Harmony raised her head and stared directly at her opponent, a white mare with a purple mane. They stared intently at each other, and neither spoke nor blinked for a short period of time, enough for a short intermission from the story.

The mare finally blinked.

Harmony turned to her friends (Silver, Garden, and Top Speed) and gave a round of high-hooves. When she looked at Silver, she leaned over and kissed him.

"Next contestants!" Open Eyes and another pony stepped up.

------------------------------

Open cantered off the stage and exclaimed his victory.

"Next contestants!"

Silver, equipped with goggles, stepped up to a stallion with a sandy yellow coat and a darker mane. They glanced at each other and then looked at the announcer.

"Three! Two! One! STARE!"

They snapped their heads and stared at each other.

-----------------------------

The sandy pony finally closed his eyes, opened them and reached to shake Silver's hoof.

"Good game." He said.

"Good game." Silver agreed.

"Next competitors!"

------------------------------

"Next competitors!"

Harmony stepped up to Open eyes.

"Three! Two! One! STARE!"

Harmony and Open locked eyes.

-------------------------------

Harmony blinked. She had a defeated look on her face.

"HA! Your little coltfriend couldn't help you? Without him, you can't do anything!"

Harmony glared at him, then walked away.

"Next competitors!"

Silver was up against a mare with a light green coat and a pink mane.

-------------------------------

She blinked.

The final match. Silver and Open. Silver looked to his friends, and they each gave him their hope. Harmony's message was accompanied with a kiss. Silver flipped down his goggles over his eyes and approached Open.

"The championship match! Here we go! Three! Two! One! STARE!"

Silver and Open stared.

-------------------------------

"This is one long match! Our timer says... 3 hours!"

"I can stare you down in my sleep." Open taunted through clenched teeth.

"Do you sleep with your eyes open?"

"Like I would need to."

"You would."

Neither of us are going to blink, Open thought.

Open lifted his fore-hooves off of the ground and stomped them in front of Silver, who almost flinched.

"That's not fair!" Silver exclaimed.

"Who said anything about being fair?" Open responded. He once again tried to force Silver to blink, this time punching the air next to his head. Silver stayed still and did not blink. Then, Open tried a different approach. He spoke to Silver in a very harsh tone.

"Now, your marefriend back there, do you really like her? The way I see it, she's just using you."

"What the buck are you talking about?"

"You don't notice that she spends an awful lot of time with Top Speed?"

"They're friends. Besides, neither of them would do that to me. Top Speed already has Garden anyway."

"Yes, but neither of you have gotten to the point."

"And why does that matter?"

"Because she's leaving you!"

"She would never do that."

"CLOSE YOUR DAMN EYES ALREADY!"

Silver finally flinched at Open's change of demeanor and blinked once.

"YESYESYES I FINALLY DID IT! I WON! WOOOO!" Open raised his hooves in celebration, but found no-one congratulating him on his victory.

"Come on, I won! Celebrate!"

"You tried to ruin a relationship." One member of the audience said.

"That's not cool, bro." Another piped up.

"So what? I WON!"

"You cheated and lied. Take your trophy. It's supposed to be a reminder of winning, but now it's a reminder of cheating."

"I will take it!" He walked off with a small trophy with two open eyes at the top. People started to disperse, and soon enough the small group of friends were in the courtyard alone. They walked off towards the dorms, and then into Silver's.

"I'm sorry you couldn't get that trophy."

"It's fine! I just wanted to play. Now, about what he said... you two?" Silver's expression changed from lighthearted to serious.

"Could never happen."

"Okay! Let's eat, I'm starving!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear mom and dad,

I participated in a contest this week. Silver did, too. He was much better than me, but lost to a cheater. The cheater tried to turn friends away from each other so that he could win. He did that to Silver and won, but found no one congratulating him because he won unfairly. He tried to separate me and Silver's friendship, but we realized that neither of us would hurt each other, and made up. True friends don't turn on each other, and neither do mine.

Sincerely,

Harmony

"I told him I would get revenge, and here it is!"

"You're going a little overboard, don't you think?"

"Of course not! He deserves it!"

"Fine, as long as I stay out of it."

"Okay, you can. I don't need your help anyway!" Silver Chalice left his roommate in their dorm and climbed out the window. His balance did not falter as he climbed across windows and came across one in particular. He slid it open and dropped in.

Now, where am I going to put this? I know!

Silver Chalice placed a lighter with a black circle on it on Silver's nightstand. As he did so, he heard the sound of a door opening. He quickly lept ut of a window and caught himself on a rope strung across the alley. He worked his way back to the window which he originally exited, and slipped inside.

"Okay, now we need to stream it."

"I'm still not sure that this is a good idea."

"Don't be silly. This is a great idea."

"I still don't want anything to do with this."

"Okay then."

Silver Chalice clicked a few times on his laptop, and then watched for a minute.

A dark room, lit only by the moonlight streaming through the window. Suddenly, a door opens. Light floods the dark room a a lone figure enters, closing the door behind itself.

"Well, I guess that's a day."

The figure lied down on a bed, and pulled the blankets around itself. It pulled out a picture of a mare with a golden mane and lighter coat. The figure held the photo up to his chest and said quietly,

"Harmony, I love you."

Silver Chalice gasped and dropped the laptop. He then regained his composure as the figure on the screen reached a hoof down between his legs.

"Okay, I don't have to watch it."

-----------------------

"And cut it there. Perfect. Now I just have to show her, and she'll be completely disgusted and break up with him!"

"I was not part of this."

"No, you had nothing to do with this."

"Good."

Now, I can just hook it up to her television, and when she turns it on, she'll see the horrid display of Silver clopping to a picture of her! Then' she'll break up with him, and I'll have her all to myself!

Silver Chalice entered the alley again, and this time entered the dorm opposite the one he previously entered. He hid in the shadows and finally came across the television. He inserted a flashdrive into the side of the screen and turned the TV on.

A light filled the room and Silver Chalice watched his work play out. He set it on pause, turned off the TV and left out the window.

--------------------------

"WHAT?" A shout rang out through the campus.

Silver Chalice sprang out of bed.

She saw it! She is going to hate him!

Silver Chalice opened his bedroom door and ran out.

"If anyone asks, I had nothing to do with it!" Silver's roommate directed him as Silver opened the fridge.

"Okay, okay!"

A few minutes passed and Silver was finishing breakfast when his door slammed open, revealing two ponies, one stallion and one mare.

"What was that? You snuck into my bedroom and recorded me?"

"You snuck into my apartment and messed with my TV! You're such a creep!"

"What makes you think it was me?"

"It was either you or Open Eyes, and you know where we live!"

"Crap."

Harmony slapped Silver Chalice, and then Silver Sea punched him in the jaw.

"I'm sorry! I thought that you would be disgusted and then break up with him!"

"I'm disgusted in you! You're a sick, weird creep who can't stand a relationship that doesn't involve sex every night!"

Silver Chalice closed his eyes and turned his head, waiting for a beating that did not come. He opened his eyes and looked at the pair quizzically.

"Don't do it again."

"I won't!"

"Thank you." The pair left the dorm.

-----------------------

"So, during the video, you said..."

"I meant it."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Well... I love you too."

The pair shared a kiss, and then made their way back to the dorm.

Dear mom and dad,

Silver Sea and I have decided to... go out. One colt, also named Silver, was jealous of us, and tried to break us up. We decided that no one could break us up, and that we loved each other. Sometimes bonds are too strong to break.

Sincerely,

Harmony
