When Discord and Kaos team up, Spyro and Spike have to switch universes to save their own.
When Kaos accidentally arrives in Equestria, he meets Discord, and they make a deal. If Kaos manages to take over Equestria, Discord will put Skylands in an state of chaos.
Meanwhile, Spyro is sent by Eon to Equestria to stop all this. The only problem is he is sent alone, but needs help. Not long after arriving, he finds another purple dragon. He assumes the dragon is one of is kind and makes a deal with him as well. They must save each other's universes. This can only end well...
THIS STORY IS ON HIATUS DUE TO OTHER STORIES AND REAL LIFE RIGHT NOW. WILL GET BACK TO IT WHEN I CAN.
Kaos gave a scream of excitement as he yelled for his assistant, Glumshanks.
"I've done it! Glumshanks, come look! I've finally done it!"
"Yes, Lord Kaos..."
"I finally did it! Look!"
"It's just your old portal, sir."
"That's what you think, Glumshanks, but I finally was able to make it so I can teleport to alternate universes! Maybe I can find more powerful and awesome minions to take over Skylands ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!"
"That's great, master... I guess..."
"Come with me, to the ALERNATE UNIVERSES OF DOOM!!!" And with that, Kaos jumped into the portal. Glumshanks sighed and continued his work.
An angry yellow pegasus was coming straight towards Discord.
"Discord! What do you think you're doing? Stop that right now, mister!"
"Oh, hi Fluttershy! I-I was just.. um.. carrying this nice mare's groceries for her!"
"Don't you play innocent with me! I saw you stealing this mare's groceries. Good friends don't steal from other ponies! Now, give them back and apologize right now." Discord did as he was told and walked away. He listened to Flutttershy behind him until he was out of earshot.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry Berry Punch! This reforming thing is harder then I thought, and..."
Discord walked all the way back to Fluttershy's house. He couldn't think of anywhere else to go, and he was staying here until he was fully "reformed". Besides, Fluttershy hadn't come home yet, and he needed a place to practice his magic.
Using his magic, Discord picked up some of Fluttershy's animals and tortured them in any way he could think of. He threw them around, squished them into strange shapes, and did other indescribable things.
It wasn't long before he saw Fluttershy coming back. Quickly, Discord dropped Angel Bunny, went inside, and started making dinner for her. He felt something strange inside him, though. A sudden urge to keep practicing his magic. Besides the cottage, Discord knew did know one other place where he could be alone. He snuck out back window and headed towards the Everfree Forest just as he heard the front door open.
Kaos woke up. He was laying on a pile of leaves in what seems to be a forest. He stood up and studied the place.
"Hmm... This place seems to dark and evil. Maybe there's evil creatures here! What do you think, Glunshanks? Glumshanks? Where are you? "GLUMSHAAANKS!!!"
As Kaos screamed, he heard something rustle in the bushes behind him. He turned around and saw a large creature pop out. It didn't look like anything from Skylands. Foam was dripping from its mouth, and splinters were falling from its fur. Actually, it didn't seem to have fur at all. It was entirely made of wood.
"Hello, evil creature of this strange world. I am Lord Kaos, the future ruler of Skylands. Of course, I am not ruling yet, but I could if you join me. Then we can rule together! So what do you say?"
The creature only jumped on top of him. It gave a low growl, and looked like it was intended to kill.
When Discord woke up, he heard a low growl, followed by a scream. He struggled to remember what happened. He was walking through the forest, when a bright sphere appeared in front of him. Then there was an explosion.
"Hmm... The explosion must have knocked me out and sent me flying-" He was interrupted by another scream. He ran through the trees to the clearing where he saw the sphere.
Discord stared in awe at the animal he saw. It looked like one of the mythical "humans", since it had no fur and hands. But it had a strange blue marking on its forehead. Oh yeah, and it was being attacked by a timberwolf.
Using his chaotic magic, Discord picked up the timberwolf and squished it into the first thing that came into his mind; a slice of cake. Luckily, the human thing seemed unharmed. Even though it was still screaming. He had an urge to use his magic on it, but didn't.
It took a few minutes for Kaos to realize that the creature was gone. He stood up and brushed himself off. He looked around and saw several trees, a different creature staring at him, and a piece of cake made of wood. Wait, what?
"Hello there!" said the creature. It had a huge grin on its face
"Who are you? What are you? Did you save my life? Are you going to maul me?"
"Well, I am Discord, I am a draconequus, I did save your life, and no, I don't want to maul you. Anything else?"
"Um..." Kaos was still in shock after what happened. "W-would you like to t-take over Skylands with me?"
Discord looked confused, yet still joyful at the same time "Skylands? I have never heard of that place. I've been all over Equestria, but never seen a Skylands. By the way, who are you?"
Kaos remembered he was in an alternate universe. "Allow me to explain. I am Lord Kaos, future ruler of Skylands. Of course, I haven't taken it over yet, but maybe with your help, I can. You see, Discord, Skylands is another universe, filled with many magical inhabitants. Very few of us in Skylands are have very special talents. We are called Portal Masters, and have the ability to control portals. I just happen to be one of them. But I use my abilities for evil purposes, and plan on RULING SKYLANDS FOREVER!!!"
Discord's eyes filled with excitement. "Wait, your name is Chaos?"
"Yes, but with a K."
We must have much in common then. I pretty much AM chaos!" He paused for a moment, and grew an evil grin. "You know, Kaos, I've have some evil plans, too. Everyone thinks i'm 'reformed', but I'm just waiting for my chance to strike, and put Equestria in an eternal state of chaos." he chuckled. "Perhaps we can work out a deal."
Now Kaos gave an evil grin. "I was thinking the same thing Chaos- um, Discord. Since you saved my life and all."
Discord rolled his eyes.
Kaos pulled out a small box. "This is a Returning Portal. It will take you to my castle in Skylands. If you travel there and put it Slylands in a state of chaos, it will be in the perfect condition to take over. Then you come back here using my main portal back home. While you're doing that, I'll overthrow the current ruler of this land, and leave it in the condition for you to put it in an eternal state of chaos. How's that for a deal?"
Discord thought this through. "That could work," he said. "Although you would have to watch out for the Elements of Harmony. But if you're good enough, you wouldn't have to worry about that."
"Elements of Harmony? What are those?"
"The strongest forces in all of Equestria. They are connected to six mares that will try to stop you. But overthrowing Celestia and Luna is pretty easy."
Kaos hesitated. "I'll keep that in mind. You need to watch out for the Skylanders. They will definitely try and stop you, but I'm sure you can defeat them, though."
"Okay," Discord held out his lion paw. "Do we have a deal then?"
Spyro was the head Skylander who came from a rare line of purple dragons that were able to breathe balls of magical fire. He was practicing his fighting skills when he was called by Eon, the old head Portal Master. Even though Eon wasn't a Portal Master anymore, he still gave missions to the Skylanders. Spyro walked to the ruins of his old castle, and a large hologram appeared in front of him.
He saluted. "At your service, Eon."
Even though the spirit looked distressed, he still gave a smile. "Greetings, Spyro. How are you today?"
There was something strange about Eon that Spyro couldn't put his claw on. "Fine, sir. Do you have a mission for me?"
Eon's smile faded and he gave a sigh. "In fact I do. You see, Kaos is up to his old tricks again. Except he isn't exactly in Skylands right now. He seems to be in another universe. I don't know what he is doing there, but-"
"You want me to gather all the Skyladners so we can stop him, right?"
"Well, no. Traveling across universes is very tricky, even for experienced Portal Masters. I cannot risk sending all of the Skylanders there because something might go wrong when you're traveling. I do not want all of you to be sent back to Earth again, right?"
Spyro shuddered at the thought of being frozen into a toy and sent to Earth again.
"I know you would not want to do this alone, but I have no choice. I would go myself, but you know..."
"Kaos turned you into a spirit, so you can't control portals anymore."
"Exactly. So do you accept this mission?"
Spyro considered saying no, because he hated going on missions alone. But he would never turn down such an important one. "Mission accepted, sir."
"Good." He pointed to a pile of rubble. "Underneath that is one of my most powerful portals. Luckily it wasn't shattered when Kaos destroyed this place. It has the ability to travel across universes. And if I'm correct, the first place you should go to is a land called Equestria. That is where Kaos is. When you get there, you will instantly have a returning portal. Use it to come back once he is defeated. Are you ready to go?
Skyro hesitated, but said yes.
"Alright then. Uncover the portal and jump in when you feel comfortable."
Spyro knew procrastinating about jumping in was useless, so he uncovered the portal as quickly as possible. He glanced back at he hologram, which gave him a warm smile. Without thinking, Spyro leaped in.
"W-what happened?"
Spyro woke up in front of a large tree. It seemed that someone was living inside it, though. There was a door, several windows, and even a balcony. He stared at the tree for a long time.
Finally, his Spyro's memories flashed back to him. He remembered where he was and why he was there.
"So I must be in Equestria? Everything is so...colorful."
Spyro wondered if the person living in the tree house would help him. He walked to the door and was about to knock the door swung open, smacking him in the face.
"Ow! What was that for?" He got angry, and prepared for a fight with whatever was behind the door. Except there was another dragon standing in front of him. Not only a dragon, but a purple dragon.
Spike was doing all his chores, just as Twilight asked him to do while she was gone. He had done everything on his list: dust the shelves, put her books away, and sweep the floor. Once he had done everything Twilight asked him to do, he grabbed his comic book and started to relax. It wasn't long before he forgot one thing he had to do. Twilight's birthday was coming up, and he needed to pick up a cake from Sugarcube Corner. Pinkie Pie was planning on throwing a huge surprise party at the library. He knew he didn't have much time before Twilight would come home, so he dashed through the library and swung open the front door. He was about to sprint to the bakery, but the dragon standing on his doorstep stopped him in his tracks.
It was a slender dragon, with royal purple scales and bronze horns and wings. Unlike him, it stood on four legs and had red eyes that were flashing with anger. But suddenly, the anger stopped and the dragon's eyes filled with curiosity.
"Y-you're a p-purple dragon? But I-I thought the last of our species lived in Skylands!"
"What?"
"Oh, right, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Spyro, the head Skyladner. I'm on a mission here, trying to save my home, Skylands."
"Spyro, huh? I'm Spike, Twilight Sparkles number one assistant! So you're on a mission? Cool! I never usually talk with other dragons. Most of them try to kill me."
"Nice to meet you. Listen, could you help me out? You see, I'm trying to defeat-"
Spyro was interrupted by loud footsteps coming from behind him. The two dragons turned around and saw two evil creatures coming toward them.
"Discord," Spike said angrily. "What are you doing here? And who are you with?"
"Oh hello, Spikey-Wikey," said Discord, who patted his head. "Do you know where your friends are?"
"No, but when they get back they'll stop you from whatever you're planning!"
"Oh, that's too bad. I'll be on my way then!" Discord gave a grin and his friend laughed evilly.
"Who the heck was that?" Spyro asked.
"Discord," Spike grumbled. "An old villain. Most of us thought he was reformed, but he looks like he's up to something. Who was that with him?"
"Kaos. He is the one I'm trying to defeat here. It looks like those two have become buddies. They probably worked out some kind of deal. I'm going to follow them." With that, Spyro ran off after the two villains, but hid in a nearby bush.
Spike was left alone. The cake would have to wait. Equestria, and Skylands, were in danger, and he couldn't let that dragon save them alone! He didn't know what he was up against! Without thinking, Spike ran after Spyro.
Spyro hiding pretty far away from the villains, so he strained to hear their conversation.
"Well, I wanted to get the Elements of Harmony out of your way, but it seems I can't. You shouldn't have a problem taking over Equestria though," said Discord.
"Very good. Here is your Returning Portal, Discord. Put Skylands in as much chaos as possible!"
"So that's what their plan is," Spyro said to himself. "They're switching universes. How am I going to stop that?" He got ready to pounce. He had to do something to keep Discord from going to Skylands.
"Hey, Wait up!" Spyro heard familiar voice from behind him. He turned around to see the baby dragon crash into him.
"Sorry," said Spike. "I knew you couldn't do this alone, so I came to help" Just as he said that, both of them saw Discord unfold the portal and jump in.
"Yeah, that definitely helped me. Now what do we do?" Spike looked like he was going to cry. As much a Spyro wanted to shoo Spike away, he knew that saving two universes couldn't be done alone.
"I guess I'm not that much help after all," Spike started to leave.
Spyro stared at him for a while. "Wait!" he finally said. Instantly, Spike turned around, confused. "I have a plan. You seem to know Discord pretty well. You must know his weaknesses. I know Kaos' weaknesses. If I stop Kaos here in Equestria, could I send you to Skylands to stop Discord? You are a purple dragon, you should be pretty powerful in Skylands."
Spike considered this. He would be a hero, and if he is more powerful in Skylands, defeating Discord would be easy. "Okay, I'll do it."
"Thanks. We have no time to lose." Spyro pulled out a box similar to the one Kaos had. He dropped it on the ground, and it unfolded into a portal. "This will take you to Skylands."
Spike was nervous about the portal. He looked up at Spyro, who gave him a reassuring smile. Spike had no choice but to jump in, so he did.
"Ah!" Spike woke up and saw he was surrounded by trolls. He immediately regretted his decision. "Why did I agree to come here? I don't have the Elements of Harmony. I'll never defeat Discord!"
Spike tried to hold some of the trolls off with his fire breath, but there was too many. He closed his eyes, preparing for the worst, but it ever came. Instead, he opened his eyes to several strange creatures fighting off the trolls. He was amazed at how well they fought. So amazed that he stared at them for a long time.
"Hey, you alright?" said one of them. It looked like a fish, but it had arms and legs and was holding a harpoon gun.
"He doesn't look alright, Gill," said another one. This one had a very loud voice. She looked sort of like a griffon, but unlike any griffon Spike had ever seen. Spike decided to talk to the creatures. They saved his life, after all.
"Um, hi. I'm Spike, and I come here from Equestria." He gave a half smile.
"Equestria? Never heard of it," said Gill. "Is it in Skyla-"
"Wait, you're a purple dragon? I've never seen one like you! Do you know Spyro?" said a third one. It was actually another purple dragon, but more slender than Spyro and had silver horns and wings. She suddenly went calm. "None of us have seen him today." Her voice now sounded almost scary, but Spike somewhat admired her.
"Actually, yes I do." Spike tried his best to talk calmly. "He was sent to my world, which is called called Equestria. Kaos is there taking it over. Right now, a villian from Equestria named Discord is here. He is trying to put this place in a state of chaos. They sort of teamed up."
The creatures just stood there, listening to everything Spike said. "So, who are you guys?"
"Us? We're the Skylanders! Protectors of Skylands!" This one seemed to be entirely made of lava.
"Come on guys, lets get back to headquarters," said the purple dragon.
"What about him?" said the griffon. "Spike, could you come with us?"
"Sure, why not?" He hopped on the griffon's back and she and the dragon flew off. The rest ran behind.
When Spike and the Skylanders arrived at headquarters, the griffon set him down and they all surrounded him. There were seven in total.
"I guess we should introduce ourselves," said the fish. "I'm Gill Grunt, but you can just call me Gill." He seemed to be the level headed one of the group, almost like Applejack.
"I'm Sonic Boom!" said the griffon loudly. Spike thought the name fitted her.
Gill pointed to the lava one and one that was made out of rocks, with crystals for hands. "That's Eruptor and Prisim Break." They both waved and said hi, and Spike noticed they had deep voices.
"I'm Cynder," said the purple dragon. She somewhat reminded Spike of Rainbow Dash.
"Over there is Trigger Happy, but we just call him Trig," said Gill. Trig laughed hysterically. "All he really does is laugh and shoot things." He seemed like the Pinkie Pie of the group.
It was silent for a while. Spike figured they all had introduced themselves, but he noticed small elf creature standing in the back. "Who's that?" he asked.
"Oh, thats Stealth Elf. Probably the smartest of the group, but she doesn't talk much," said Eruptor. Stealth Elf only stared at him. Her shyness reminded Spike of a certain yellow pegasus.
More silence.
"So," said Gill finally. "Who is this Discord you were talking about?
"Oh, right," said Spike. "Where I come from, he represents the spirit of chaos. About two years ago, he escaped his stone prison and tried to put Equestria in an eternal state of chaos. Of course the Elements of Harmony stopped him. A few months ago, a friend of mine named Fluttershy (Spike glanced at Stealth Elf) was believed to help reform him, but if he's doing evil things here, I guess it didn't work. I think we have to defeat him to save both out worlds."
"That must explain this," said Prism Break, who pulled back a window curtain. Spike looked outside and gasped. When he first arrived in Skylands, he never really got a gook look around until now. Everything was crazy. There were trolls and other monsters everywhere, inanimate objects were moving around, and day and night were switching every five minutes.
Everyone was staring out the window except Stealth Elf, who appeared to be thinking. Finally, she spoke in the smallest voice possible. "Elements of Harmony? Are those like the Eight Elements?"
"What are those?" Spike asked.
"They're the forces that make us Skylanders powerful," said Cynder. "We each represent one: I am Undead, Gill is water, Sonic Boom is Air, Eruptor is fire, Prism is Earth, Trig is Tech, Stealth Elf is Life, and Spyro is Magic." She sighed. "If only he were here..."
Spike was amazed by this, but not for long because everyone was expecting him to tell them what the Elements of Harmony were. "The Elements of Harmony are what turned Discord to stone. There are six: Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic. I don't have them to defeat Discord, but there has to be another way."
Now the Skylanders looked amazed. Suddenly, Trigger Happy started screaming like a monkey. Then he started shooting out the window.
"What are you doing!" shouted Sonic Boom.
"We're being attacked!" said Eruptor. He was right. There was an airship right above them dropping bombs and enemies.
"Take cover!" yelled Gill.
"No, don't take cover, fight!" screamed Cynder. And they did. Spike hid underneath a table and stared in awe at the Skylanders as they fought. He now understood how the elements matched up to each Skylander. He especially watched Cynder, as she shot lightning from her mouth and summoned ghosts. Then he turned his attention to Stealth Elf, who had the power to turn invisible and sneak up behind her enemies. She then used her daggers to destroy them. Sonic Boom screamed rays of sound out of her mouth, Prism Break shot laser beams from his crystal hands, and Eruptor threw lava balls. Gill and Trig were going wild, shooting harpoons and bullets at the enemies. It was amazing.
Spike's attention was turned towards Sonic Boom when he heard a small scream. He turned toward Stealth Elf and saw her being taken away by a cyclops thing. Immediately Spike jumped into action. He ran up to the cyclops and punched, kicked, and blew fire on it until it dropped the elf. Stealth Elf whispered a quick thanks and went back to fighting. It wasn't long, though before all the enemies were defeated.
"Wow!" Spike said. "That was amazing!" The Skylanders smiled with pride. Just then Spike got an idea.
"Wait a second!" he said. "If the Elements of Harmony defeat Discord in Equestria, then maybe, just maybe, the Eight Elements can defeat him here?"
Gill pondered this. "Sounds like a stretch, but it could work. Let's do it!"
Spyro secretly followed Kaos as he paced just outside the small town. He heard the villain constantly talking to himself.
"Now, this can't possibly be the capital of Equestria. So the question is: where is it?" He wandered around the outskirts of town, making sure no one saw him. Spyro was close behind, flying between bushes and trees nearby.
Kaos came to a cliff. He had to admit, the view was beautiful. Below him was a valley with nothing but grass until it came to a forest. It didn't seem as scary or unnatural as the forest he was in before, though. Beyond that was a mountain range. However, he noticed something off in the distance. Hanging on the side of a faraway mountain, Kaos could barely see a city. From what he saw, it looked majestic, maybe even a place for a ruler to live?
Spyro followed his gaze and found the city he was staring at from his hiding place. It did look more upper class then the town he appeared in. He figured it must be the capital. What was so special about that?
"Wait a second," Spyro said to himself. Their deal was if Kaos takes over this Equestria place, then Discord will put Skylands in a state of chaos. If that really is the capital, then he must be trying to overthrow the ruler of this land to take it over. That's it!"
Suddenly Kaos turned around. Spyro froze. He must've heard the dragon talking to himself. But he just looked off into the distance behind him for a while and then turned back to the city. Spyro knew he was going to head there. He considered just pouncing on him, but he knew Kaos was too powerful for Spyro to take on alone, even if he was the head Skylander. He needed help.
Kaos knew he needed to go to that city, but didn't know how to get there. He couldn't just jump off the cliff. There was one option, but he wasn't sure if it would work in Equestria. But it was his only choice. He had to make a portal. Just to be safe, he decided to give it minimal power, so it could only be used once.
Kaos drew a circle in the ground with his foot, big enough for him to stand in, but kept his eyes on the city. He held out his hand over the circle and closed his eyes. He concentrated, feeling the dark magic channel through him. He got a mental image of the city, directed the magic toward his hand, and opened his eyes. Instead of going inside the hand, the magic formed a sphere, which floated above his open palm. As soon as he thought there was enough magic in the sphere, he removed his hand, letting it float to the ground inside the circle. There was a bright flash, and a portal appeared in place of the circle. It had worked. Kaos glanced around to make sure no one was looking, and jumped in. The portal then disappeared.
Spyro didn't have much time, but he needed a plan. Spike had mentioned someone named Twilight Sparkle. Maybe she could help him. He flew back to the tree where he first met Spike.
Spyro arrived at the tree house and was about to knock on the door when he suddenly got nervous. He doesn't ever know what kind of creature Twilight was, let alone who she was. He hadn't seen any residents of the town walking around all day, only a glimpse of what looked like a zebra, even though he knew it probably wasn't that. He had no choice but to knock on the door, so he did.
It took Spyro a few seconds to comprehend what exactly opened the door. It was a... horse. But unlike any horse he had ever seen. It was light purple, with a darker purple mane and tail, and a pink streak running through them. It had a picture of a six-pointed star with five smaller stars surrounding it on its flank, and a single horn sticking out of its forehead. It's eyes looked like it's been crying.
"Hello?" it said. "Who's ther- AAH!" It screamed, but only for a moment. Then it's purple eyes filled with curiosity. "Are you a dragon? In Ponyville?"
"Um, hi," said Spyro cautiously. "My name's Spyro, and I was wondering if you could help me out. And... you're a talking horse..." he trailed off.
The horse was still in shock but responded anyway. "Actually I'm a pony. A unicorn to be exact. Wait, shouldn't you know that?" It hesitated, as if deciding wether to let a dragon in the house or not. "Oh well, just come in and have a seat. My name's Twilight Sparkle, by the way."
Spyro went inside. The inside of the tree seemed a lot bigger than the outside. It also seemed to be a library, since there were books everywhere stacked neatly on shelves. He sat down in a chair and Twilight sat in a chair across from him.
"So, what are you doing here in Ponyville? Dragons almost never come near pony territory. Well, except for Spike. But..." Her eyes started to water. "He's missing. After I came home, he wasn't here. I looked all over Ponyville, but no one knows where he is." Her eyes suddenly widened. "You're a dragon! You must know where he is!"
Spyro nervously chuckled. "Actually, yes I do know where he is. I guess I owe you an explanation now." Twilight's eyes were filled with hope. She nodded.
"I'm actually not from Equestria. I come from a place called Skylands. You see, I was sent here to stop a villain named Kaos. He is trying to take over Skylands. When I first got here, the first person I met was Spike. We figured out that Kaos had met someone named Discord and they teamed up. They switched universes. That's why I'm here. I can't defeat Kaos alone, and I need your help."
"What about Spike?" she asked.
"Oh right, that." Spyro knew she wasn't going to like this. "Since Spike knew how to defeat Discord and I knew how to defeat Kaos, we um... switched universes, too. So right now Spike is... in Skylands."
"You WHAT?!?!" the unicorn looked angrier than ever. Her horn started glowing a bright pink, and Spyro's body was suddenly engulfed in an aura of the same pink color. He was picked up and swung into a wall by it.
"How could you put Spike in such danger? He could be killed in this Skylands place! Why did you send him to an alternate universe without my permission?"
"I-I'm sorry!" it was hard to talk while being pinned up against a wall. Why was she so angry about this? She must think of Spike as a little brother or something. "L-listen. M-maybe you can help me st-stop Kaos? Then E-Equestria would be saved and you w-would be able to see Sp-Spike again!"
The aura around his body faded and the dragon dropped to the floor. "You're right!" said Twilight. "Spike should be fine on his own for now. He knows how to take care of himself. Equestria is in danger! Where is this Kaos you mentioned?"
"In the city on the mountain," said Spyro, panting. When he caught his breath, he could speak again. "I think it's the capital. He must be trying to overthrow the leader of your world." He paused to think. "Spike mentioned some things called the Elements of Harmony. You think they will have the power to stop Kaos?"
"It's worth a shot," said Twilight. "Luckily, I know where they are. Let's get them and head to Canterlot!"
