Well, I'm just going with the "real Equestria is different from the show."
At this point, I'm saying Screw Geography, I Write Fanfiction.

All you had to do was flip the map upside down, and you could technically do that because the compass rose on the cannon map wasn't marked.
What was assumed to be North could just as easily have been South. Of course, that brings up more issues, but I digress.
And, I know you said you understood the differences between the two maps. Kind of why it's fairly silly, and just me being overly geeky-stupid.
