Time to move on to the birbs! Continuing the Young Six series, I'm turning this week towards Silverstream.

Time to move on to the birbs! Continuing the Young Six series, I'm turning this week towards Silverstream.
First up: There She Goes! by Miller Minus.
So hopping along, the next of the Young Six I'm gonna pull out is Smolder. (This time it's only semi-random: remember me mentioning semillon last week? Yeah, I'm having to actually sort this series to make sure not to feature them twice in a row.) So who am I gonna pull out first for Scoota-dragon?
Right. A month or so ago I mentioned that I was getting ready to launch some bigger thematic batches of stories, which is why I was trying to clear up my new authors folder. The bigger one of those was a focus series on the Student Six, which I'd planned to start as soon as a month came up with five Wednesdays.
…Yeah I was supposed to start it last week. Bother.
Okay, so changing gears again-again. This time mostly because I have no time. This is one of those weeks where everything happens at once, and I've been positively hopping with how little free time I've got.
But that's no excuse not to talk about how absolutely cool stories are, and honestly I've made it this long without missing an update so I'm hardly going to start now.
And now back to our regularly scheduled program and my attempt to clean out my rookies shelf. (I've only got a few, I'm determined to at least catch up to this month with them.)
Which brings me to the oldest story I've got on that stack: The Anchor by jphenix.
Okay, so there's still new people to get through but you gotta remember that this blog series is mostly reliant on my whims. And I'm a little bored on that front, so I'm gonna switch gears and do a different pair of stories. Because I can. Also because I was reminded of one of these stories this last week and they're pretty damn funny.
Probably the hardest genre to get right is mystery. Not only do you need to craft a solid narrative that fulfills all the requirements of a good drama or comedy (because without that it's just a trumped-up logic puzzle), but you also have to create that mystery itself. It can't be too obvious - otherwise why bother - but you also can't make it rely on bullshit and information the reader is never told.
So continuing down the road to clear out my new authors folder, I'm going to put the focus first on one of the newer folks I really like: pneu. They've got a couple of really good ones, but the one I'm settling on today is my favorite of theirs so far: Haycartes' Method.
So going through my staging ground for this blog, I found I've got several sets coming up that are going to be big thematic bursts - like a month and a half of dedicated Student Six fics - so timing is an issue for me. I don't want to interrupt something like that in the middle, but I also don't want to let other (and potentially more time sensitive) things fall by the wayside either. So before I go deeper into those, I'm gonna take a few weeks to clear out my new writers shelf and shine
And we'll start year four with more strength. And my personal fetish because you're getting more Sunset Shimmer whether you like it or not. (You'll probably like it. I did. That's kind of the point of all this, now isn't it?)
And so we come to the end of year three with this blog. Not a bad milestone for a project I more or less started on a whim because I wanted to gush about cool stories.
So let's end this one with some real bangers, eh?
So this week's my anniversary - 14 years. And that's a good enough reason to establish a theme! So as my wife and I are both absolute gigantic nerds (which should not be a surprise to anyone), I think I'll have a bit of fun this week with Moondancer. And romances. But not her and Twilight, that's too easy. Let's go with some that are a bit more unique.
This week's a bit of an aside: five days ago, the staff put up a new series tag for Equestria At War. Now it isn't really my style, but it is a thing to celebrate: I believe it's actually the first time a series tag has been added for fan-made content (possible exception: SCP Foundation, which I'm not sure if that truly counts as 'fan-made'.) And as a tag it's been growing very rapidly - it's been less than a week
Transitioning but staying on a similar note from last week, I'm actually gonna hit up the newest author to come to my Newbies shelf. The author in question put out a damn good story about a month ago that matches up well with a story I've wanted to feature for a while - so good fortune! I love it when things come together like that.
Hey folks! Welcome to the index for Recommendsday. After nearly three years, I've realized I can't accurately keep track of things. Sure, there's a bookshelf that includes all of the stories, but it doesn't help line up story and author with post. So: this index. A hopefully easier way to search and sort. Obviously this will be updated as time goes on and more are added. Anyway, have a good one and enjoy the reading!
This week's pair has been sitting in my ready queue for the longest - I originally selected it as an alternate pair for #116 back in June. I opted to use the other set because their connecting theme was slightly less spoiler-y for the G5 episodes I was referencing, but it's now been eight months so I no longer feel bad. And they've been waiting long enough!
So this week I'm in a little bit of a rush. The rush is a good thing - I'm working on an extra project (as mentioned here) that's kind of eaten up all my free time for the last several days. It'll be worth it in the end, I think, but it's kind of pulled me away from doing the rest of my content.
So in my last quarterly update blog, I noted in one of my current projects that I had recently been inspired by a story. And I don't think it's quite fair to keep sitting on that story for this blog. I mean, I made the note, I gotta at least link it, right? Besides it was in the queue and had a match already. So this week's stories have a focus on the infamous Alicorn Amulet.
So yesterday was my wife's birthday. As a result, I've decided to theme today's blog on BEING OLD.
Okay, also and Twilight Sparkle being carried by reptiles but that's honestly less relevant.
(Love you hon!)
For the bigger of the two, we go to Novelle Tale and Growing Together.
I've mentioned more than a few times about my enjoyment of Jinglemas and how proud I am to play a role in it. And one thing always impresses me each year: the newbie pod. Day 1 has been traditionally reserved for previously unpublished authors. Partially because there's a cushion for the moderated queue to be cleared out before the end of the holiday, partially because they have a failure rate several times higher than the average.
