For our final week of 2021 and of the new authors push, I've decided on a theme that summarizes from the old fable of the scorpion and the frog: "It's in my nature."
The starting piece is Logarithmicon's Resolution of a Queen.
So since both stories on this one fall under the M rated umbrella, I'll lead today with the note that this current blog is very much Not Safe For Work.

The origins of this blog series go back to the idea of trying to shine a spotlight on new, promising and underappreciated authors. And this week, I'm taking a jaunt back to that. Originally I had two I wanted to focus on, but a third popped up on my reading list over the weekend so you'll just have to enjoy a bonus story.
Today we're going to be talking about pie.
The longer of the two pieces today is Roam-Springa by Pascoite. It's pretty easy to spot that the Pie family has some pretty strong Amish or Mennonite coding, if not being outright explicit in a couple of ways. And this story is a neat intersection between that and pony-living.
And we'll start year four with more strength. And my personal fetish because you're getting more Sunset Shimmer whether you like it or not. (You'll probably like it. I did. That's kind of the point of all this, now isn't it?)
Probably the hardest genre to get right is mystery. Not only do you need to craft a solid narrative that fulfills all the requirements of a good drama or comedy (because without that it's just a trumped-up logic puzzle), but you also have to create that mystery itself. It can't be too obvious - otherwise why bother - but you also can't make it rely on bullshit and information the reader is never told.
We've got a double shot of FlutterCord pain this week from some big guns, so strap in.
The author of our first this week is Shakespearicles - known primarily as a porn writer (and for controversial opinions), folks sometimes forget that Shakes is also a really really good writer. The lead story today is an excellent example of that: Let Me Go.
A good mystery really gets the heart pumping and the mind moving - it's both literature and puzzle in one, where the reader tries to figure things out before the characters in the story do. And today we've got two of my favorites on the site for that.
First up, we've got the more classical mystery of Shrink Laureate's The Fishbowl.
Continuing the focus on newer authors, I'm going to swing us in a melancholy direction today. These three stories share the Sad tag, though I'll note that they have their more shining moments, too.
We'll lead with the oldest of the accounts this month - Purple Seacow, who got their first publish in September with Unburying.
Today, our lead is one of the underappreciated sorts - one of the 'grey bar' stories in my docket.
Mysteries of a Boring Pony by Mindscape is a side-story to another of the writer's works, but I think it actually works a bit better without it.
Even immortal incarnations of the sun need love.
Directly, that love can be found in Georg's My Farrier Lady, Sunspot.
It's four days to Halloween and, well I would be remiss if I didn't do a horror recommend. I'll try to make the takes unique, though.
Starting is the more traditional horror - Twenty-Two Minutes of Air by AnchorsAway. When I say traditional, though, I'm not talking about gory movie horror. It's another story that's ominous and dark.
I'm going to lead off today by pointing out that Pride And Positivity is back for 2021! Expect to see my contribution once Calliope decides to behave a little and let me write instead of obsessing about frankensteining up the perfect cover art.

So going through my staging ground for this blog, I found I've got several sets coming up that are going to be big thematic bursts - like a month and a half of dedicated Student Six fics - so timing is an issue for me. I don't want to interrupt something like that in the middle, but I also don't want to let other (and potentially more time sensitive) things fall by the wayside either. So before I go deeper into those, I'm gonna take a few weeks to clear out my new writers shelf and shine
This week's pair has been sitting in my ready queue for the longest - I originally selected it as an alternate pair for #116 back in June. I opted to use the other set because their connecting theme was slightly less spoiler-y for the G5 episodes I was referencing, but it's now been eight months so I no longer feel bad. And they've been waiting long enough!
