The new chapter is up, at last. Remember when I said I'd cut this chapter in half so it would be a manageable size to finish? Yeah, well it's (unless my tired mind has overlooked something) actually the longest chapter of the story. Ever. So much for short.

It is 1:50 in the morning here, so I'm off to bed now. Feel free to leave a comment, though, and I'll respond ASAIA (As Soon As I'm Awake, i.e. somewhere from today to the heat death of the universe).

Hit a snag with the editing and realised that a good quarter of the chapter (which by now is more than 5,500 words) badly needed rewriting. About half the dodgy section is rewritten already, but it'll take some more work in the morning to finish and edit. Really crushed that I couldn't make the deadline, but I'll have it done soon.

So, the chapter I've been working on will be finished for an update tomorrow, which is great. The downside is that it's only half the story I wanted to tell in this update, since I had to split the chapter in two for pacing issues and to give some other plotlines a fairer time in the limelight. The second part is nowhere near as far along, having only recently been split from what I had planned an still requiring some extensive reworking to fit the revised series of events.

I've finally gotten around to doing the edits I mentioned last post, which all apply to the last section of the chapter where Featherweight and Shutterbug are talking. I made some alterations to their dialogue, fixed a typo and removed the part about Shutterbug pecking Featherweight on the cheek. I've decided against making her the flirty type, and settled on simple confidence instead, as we don't really need such a shallow sort of not-quite-romance, especially when it comes out of nowhere.

Work on the next chapter has been crawling along lately, largely due to me being in the middle of exam season while writing it, but as of today, I've now sat all my exams and can now devote the proper amount of time to writing.

As was helpfully pointed out in the comments, I forgot to give a description of Copperwing's room. I've gone back and added that now, and with those additions it has become the second longest chapter in the entire story so far. The new sections do a lot to flesh out Copperwing's character indirectly, so I think it's worth rereading either the chapter or at least that section of it.

Didn't seem like many of you had found the new chapter, so I thought I'd better let you know it's up through a blog post, in case it slipped under the radar as chapters sometimes do.

Managed to get my internet working again. It seems that the reasons for it not doing so were purely arbitrary and random, since nothing I did today to get it to work had any effect when I tried exactly the same yesterday, so I'm just hoping it stays like this. Still don't know what caused it to stop working, or what made it work again, so I'll keep my fingers crossed I don't have to deal with it again. Panic over, for now.

So, my computer has just upped and refused to connect to the internet. It's not the device or the cable, so the computer must be at fault. The USB ports have always been a little temperamental, so I'd be inclined to think that that was the issue, but other devices I've plugged into the ports (XBOX 360 controller and drawing tablet) work just fine. I went back and revised the CMC's fight in the chapter 'Fragmentation' a little. It's still nasty, if anything the namecalling is even more vicious, but it's nowhere near as violent as before. Given my changing plans for the story, it felt necessary to tone it down a little and remove the physical violence, which was definitely a step too far in hindsight.

To be the bearer of bad news, though, it's looking pretty unlikely that I'll be able to return to weekly updates anytime soon.
