Finally Saw Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens · 1:55am Jan 4th, 2016

Sure, it was largely a predictable rehash of Episode IV full of plot contrivances (Why doesn't the Empire ever build security cameras into their death machines?) but I honestly don't even care that much because fucking Star Wars is back!

Oh and the music was amazing as always. Soooo much yummy french horn!

Who should be the Genie? And should I have it be the EG version of Aladdin or should I have the girls get sucked into the story book or perhaps travel to Saddle Arabia for some reason and one of the girls find the lamp? Let me know which you guys would like to see most. What should the girls wish for? Lets see what whacky fun shit we can come up with.

Gosh dang it takes so much effort to build tension in a horror story (Working on horror tale...) · 6:06am Jul 6th, 2016

I'm 5500 words into my story and the tension just keeps building and building. Part of me says "The danger is slowly encircling the protagonist" and I have to keep going. Part of me wonders "Wow, when it comes to action, horror is like a beast that stalks it's prey quietly, patiently, and relentlessly. And finally, when the time is right, it moves. And it doesn't just move. It slithers."

Review: Insomnia (2002) · 8:54pm Sep 4th, 2015

Made in the wake of Memento, but before his big budget Batman films, Insomnia catches Christopher Nolan right before his true rise to fame, and still experimenting with the tropes and stylings that would later define his work. As such, it feels a bit transitory, and while still a good film, is not quite as strong or as tightly wound as it could have been.

Where have I been. I could attempt some yarn about how I was circling the drain or something overly dramatic full of the type of pseudo symbolism that the going through puberty set thinks is edgy and dark. In reality it's a lot of navel gazing and thinking you understand something more than you actually do or being overly disappointed when things don't work out because of a lack of experience, especially when it comes to nuance.

A lot of things have happened since this year began.

A lot of it has just been the same general nonsense that everyone else has been handling. A lot of it's been nonsense particular to me. I've spent much of 2020 rambling about said nonsense to people close to me, often (though not always) whilst drunk, and while I don't want to go into much detail about all of it... it's enough to say that I've had a bit more time on my hands than I'm used to since wrapping up 2019.

R.I.P. Robin Williams: Goodnight, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest... · 8:32pm Aug 11th, 2018

I remember when I saw those images on Twitter the day after... I cried like a little kid. I felt like I'd lost a father. Robin was my hero when I was small; he was a man that brought me smiles in the worst of times. He was the one who made my childhood with movies like Aladin and Ms. Doubtfire. He was the greatest man in the world, to a nine-year-old me.
