And it's not that I don't think of Pinkie Pie being so insane that she's not capable of understanding it, but I can't see her wanting it yet, so you might be misunderstanding me. I see her more as a person who wants to love and appease everyone, and at her young age I can't see her actively go looking for it like that when she already has a soft spot for all of her friends in the first place. She is also my fifth hardest character to write well, as I can't quite comprehend her despite being very close to her mentally myself. I make her too serious and down to earth for my own good. Some people like it, some don't.

I know before Razed Rainbow I laughed at the concept of Rare/Dash being a ship, and here it is being my second favorite and one I think I can write decently, if not in my own special education way. 2827657 Honestly, I feel like I get a lot of mileage out of "Ponyfeathers" and "Horseapples". Both terms are just so evocative, I can't help but love putting them in wherever I can.

Aside from that, my feelings on this issue actually aren't all that strong in any direction. I tend to have AJ and Rainbow swear the most (As do, I think, most authors), and Fluttershy and Pinkie the least (Again, no surprises.) Rarity's great because of the elaborate, dramatic way she says everything, so you can have a lot of fun with her when she really gets pissed off.

We know in the show Rarity cares a lot about class and appearances, but culture in Equestria is fairly nebulous. It blends aspects of medieval times and modern day all over the place.

Now, Rarity, being a pony who admires the upper class... What behavior does that actually ascribe to her? Do you think she'd have more in common with older ideas of high society (Ivy League Education, Stuffy Wine Tastings, Polo and Investment Clubs, etc.) or more of a yuppie (Exclusive Dance Clubs and Restaurants, needlessly expensive luxury items, cocaine, etc.)

Personally, I see her as more of a yuppie. I mean, she's not quite a yuppie herself, but that's the kind of society I like to imagine her trying to fit in with more. Sometimes people write her as afraid to ever toe the line of anything slightly vulgar or base, but I find that interpretation of her character kinda... boring. And, I guess, kinda outdated. Not that people of that vein don't exist anymore, or aren't considered high class anymore, but just that the yuppie version of her seems more interesting and relatable to me.

For Example, I assume most of us in this group have read bats's Tap That. I love the part about how Rarity allows herself to have a cigarette after a stressful dress order, and she has one of those long black cigarette holders. To me, that seems exactly the kind of thing Rarity would do (and I've since borrowed the idea a few times, >_>). The more old fashioned version of Rarity would be appalled at the idea, though.

And honestly about Rarity and culture? Everything.

With how much she has grown in the show she is culture. It isn't just nobility. She has an intellectual, hipster, noble, and rural upper-middle class girl vibe going all in one. She enjoys learning about the world at large, is a fan of art, opera, music, and most likely literature, poetry, fashion, and almost certainly film.

She has the best of everything that is modern culture. Rarity and Rainbow, literacy and libraries. What do Rainbow and Rarity read?

We know in canon that Rainbow reads Daring Do. Duh. Am I the only person here who can see her being a secret dork and reading comic books like Spike does? "Uhh... t-t-that isn't Superstallion under my bed. W-w-what are you talking about?" I can see her getting into that kind of grand adventure books about beings with superpowers, considering she already borderline has some herself.

And maybe because I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who doesn't see her as a complete idiot I can see her reading sports and fitness magazines. I've never been one to picture her as 'lucking' into the amount of speed that she has. I thought maybe at first her black belt in season one was a joke, but considering she can Falcon Kick trees in season three I think it confirms she's in fact peak physical conditioning all around. I can see her collecting and reading magazines that focus on fitness training. As I can see her consuming protein bars, shakes, and supplements. It could be I'm bias, since I used to weight train. I would also find it funny she happens to have a passing knowledge in nutrition.

Rarity: It's pretty much canon she reads Hoofwood magazines, fashion catalogs, and romance novels. The former two are required for her love of culture and her trade, while the third is not only a cliche but it's also canon she's a massive fan of the literal knight in shining armor complex. Look and listen to her. Her speech can be extremely flowery, purple, and grandiose. She likes operas. Why is it so grand or hard to say she not only enjoys the philosophy of Shakespeare but the grandiose and emotionally vivid plays of Ancient Greece? They are about gods and mortals, love and tragedy. Struggle and destiny. It's right up her alley in both thought process, passion, and vocabulary. I can see her as a voracious consumer of both. On classical philosophy? No. Twilight could pretty much name every ancient school of thought on the top of her head. But Rarity could match her blow for blow on the struggles of the ancient gods and mortals and what temptations they suffered. She not only enjoys the modern soap opera, but I think truly, she would enjoy the larger than life struggles of a world gone by.
