That song seems to confirm my theory that Allura is in fact a good person who's gone down a dark road.

I still wouldn't go as far as to call her a good person. Her line from Secrets of Starlight when she says "I always get what I want." seems to indicate to me that she is still a very selfish individual who has no trouble of resorting to immoral acts should her interests require her to do so.
