For the most part, this is supposed to be a pretty lax place, but for the sake of a board that, you know, actually functions, I've got a list of don'ts and other junk.

1. Site rules apply. This shouldn't have to be said. Don't post porn in here.

2. Don't be an ass. Sarcasm and snark are both fine, just but don't go insulting a person's intelligence, education, or just about anything else about them. Find another way to win a debate other than trying to humiliate your opponent. Attack statements and arguments, not people. If you think that a person's views are deplorable, then you can express that . . . just don't call them a shit-head or something in the process.

3. Don't spam. Topics on just about anything (as long as they don't violate the other rules) are allowed here, as well as derailment, but flooding the board with nonsense or coming into a thread with stuff that doesn't have anything to do with anything, will be considered spam. Basically, don't post a thread without a topic—it can even be a whimsical topic, just, you know, not a bunch of 1's and 0's and junk.

Getting chatty in a thread is just fine. Coming in and just saying, 'potatoes' and not actually responding to any one person or the topic itself, is not.

4. Don't advertise in here. It clogs ups the front page. If it has to do with ponies, or this site, then you probably want this board, instead!

5. Don't admit to anything that's a felony in here. Nobody cares about your traffic tickets, or how many times you smoke in the boys room, but remember, you're not as anonymous online as you think you may be. This rule is here to remind you to save your own butt.

6. No bigotry. I absolutely do not want to see topics in here promoting any sort of hate for sex, orientation, race, or gender-identity. If you want to roll the dice and start a topic about religion, then do so about the religion, and don't generalize the whole group.

Ban policy:

This first amendment does not apply here. Habeas corpus and due process are not requirements here. I reserve the right to kick someone out for any reason at all. This all sounds super-harsh and totalitarian, but I will not abide trolls, repeat-flamers or those who would lawyer the rules. Unless someone is pretty much being an asshole on purpose, nobody should fear any shortage of leniency.

I already know that most people are going to break rule number 2. I'm assuming that most people are going to have a bad day. That's why, initially, people will be warned in-thread. Repeat offenders will get a short temp-ban as a bit firmer warning. Perma-bans are reserved for people who are obviously making a career out of being a douche-bag. I don't want people—who are only here to converse—feel that they have anything to fear from that route. I realize that 'obviously' is subjective, and that's why the decision will be decided by the whole of the staff. None one man or woman will have the say, alone.
