It matters at least a little, because some erosions of freedom are based partly on the claim that the majority of people go to some church that you don't go to.

7741891 There's also a correlation between church-going Christians and criminals. If you go to any prison in US, the majority of people there will be prison-church-going Christians, even though they're a minority in the general populace.

I'm absolutely certain that if we manage to lower the number of church-going Christians low enough, the number of church-going Christian criminals will also decrease.
