Permanent Temporary

Got something to say to the admins/moderators about them, the members, or the group itself? Please post it below.

1667592 So I noticed one of the rules was no trolls. If I might ask, what is your policy for dealing with trolls should they appear?

I propose kill them with fire. Or, banish them and put them in prison in the place we banish them to.

I'd have to confer with the other head honchos, but I assume it would follow a similar system of judgment to the "three strikes, you're out" concept:
1. Official warning
2. Temporary ban
3. Permanent ban
Note that while this doesn't necessarily mean if you're convicted of "trolling" three times then you are "permabanned" regardless of frequency, it does indicate that we will not tolerate obvious repeat offenders.

1667671 Would this also apply to most other infractions? (not to include the extremely severe infractions, which would rate instant and permanent death from the Banhammer)

1667695 What would be bad enough to earn an instant perma-ban?

In my own opinion, if you accumulate three separate infractions over the span of three–four months, the worst that should happen is a temporary ban. But if you accumulate three infractions of the same type over the span of a single month, that indicates you don't give a fuck about our rules, and should be ample justification for permanent ban.

Obviously, infractions carry different weights based on their severity, so offenders should be judged on a case-by-case basis.

You're in the "Human in Equestria" group, right? I seem to remember seeing you there... [EDIT—confirmed by looking on your profile page]

Perchance do you remember the multiple fiascoes involving "Noc Sny/Dozerman/Night Dreams"?
...Yeah. Incidents like those would be examples of "instant permaban" infractions.

1667725 Well, I can only give my opinions on this, not being an Admin, but if a member was to do the equivalent of getting into another member's face, tearing him apart and making threats, that would be such an offense I would think.

Another would be the posting of stuff that is in direct violation of Fimfiction.net group rules, such as the posting of porn or gore images for example. Such things could even conceivably get a whole group in trouble, if allowed to go on.

As I said, these are just my guesses, but would be something I would find myself enforcing if I was to admin a group.

1667745 Oh yeah, I remember that now. Usually I'm all for second chances, but not for those guys.

1667804 I can see that being worthy of a perma-ban.

I believe that would probably only be worth a temporary ban, unless it was repeat offense. On the other hand, offenses like "dox[x]ing" (finding and releasing personal information about other members without their consent), overt spamming (trolls, spambots, advertisers, etc.), and rare cases where someone joins with the explicit purpose of attacking the group and/or its members (such as in the case of Noc Sny) would all be grounds for an immediate permanent ban.

Um, have the admins actually discussed who's going to check out the stories in the Submissions folder?:twilightsheepish:

Alright, I already posted in the groups, "main" comments, but i guess a small note that I'm new and is looking forward to some discussion would be good to post here too :twilightblush:.

To add to the discussion of rules (yeah, it was 7 weeks ago, but eh... w/e), I'd say that common sense and the golden rule are always good guidelines for what can and can't be posted. (though some seem to sadly lacking in the first and can't understand the second...)

Then, to my main point of this comment:
Could I post about my story here if I was seeking help on it? Specifically help of the "intellectual discussion" type?
I have a fic I'm working on that I want to be thought inducing on humans, reasoning and so forth, but I feel I need some help with that, so it would be nice to post the story here for that specific reason.
I know there are other groups out there more towards helping authors and helping with editing/pre.reading and so forth, but it never hurts to ask though :pinkiehappy:.

Hoo doggies! Have I really not checked in on my own group in three weeks?

That's just silly. :twilightoops:

Anyway, if you still need help, feel free to post the thread.

2620031 Will do, if I'm allowed to make a post, fimfic.net seems to dislike me, so I can't create forumposts reliably :applejackunsure:. All my tries have been just after joining the group, so there might have been some spamfilter put in or something...
anyways, I will try and post naow :derpytongue2:

2620031
Gonna try this again, even though my post from 10 weeks ago didn't do anything...

As I type this, the group has 36 stories; 35 of them are in the Submissions folder. Is anyone planning to sort through those?

Narlepoax III
Group Admin

2621037
Nope.

Basically, no one wants to do it.

2621041
Kind of makes having story folders pointless then, doesn't it?

2621046
Well, when the group admins don't give a damn about the group, I take that as a sign that it's time to bail.
Seeya.

What, you're leaving the group?

Pfft. Wuss.

2621062
Sorry, but I like to be in groups that are actually maintained. Even in other groups that have a bigger story backlog than this, at least there are efforts made from time to time. But if the towel was thrown in after sorting all of one story, it might as well be an abandoned, adminless group.

The stories were added as a kind of afterthought. The main purpose of the group was to be a place for intellectual conversation. The threads are what I'm paying my attention to.

Even if there aren't any threads nowadays...

2621074
Yeah, you're not helping your sales pitch here...

I can't make the people post threads.

If we had more than a hundred fifty users, it would probably be less of a problem, but I can't really tell people to join without coming off as a self promoter.

Most people really don't like self promotion.

Well, seeing as this Elric of Melenpony vamoosed his/her caboose...I'd like to know (since I joined both the site and this group yesterday) if there was a way for me to be notified of group discussions (because I for one, enjoy them) instead of being the odd one out. Also, I also will be writing several stories involving "Intellectual" topics (for example Human/Equestrian Imperialism, racism/speciesm, inter-species marriage, organized crime and the millitary-industrial complex). I will be discussing these topics with you in due time in order to help furnish my stories, which in turn will hopefully benefit this group. I hope you may get back to me so that way I can be a (semi)productive member of this group

Being notified of new group threads is automatic. They show up in your feed.

You can also check out recently updated threads by clicking the "Groups" button on the hotbar up at the top of every FiMFiction page (right next to your username).

Thanks Mr/Ms Narlepoax III!

Quick question, since I'm going to be posting plot-lines involving intellectual issues (as most of the stories that I've seen in this group) would that count as "RP-ing" if say "Faction A is at war with Faction B, but faction C works for them both and is mooching off of their profits. How can Faction C be eliminated?" Or "My OC is a test tube pony created for a set purpose but he's trying to break that purpose and decide his own destiny. What complications will arise?" Not only will this provide discussions for the group, but hopefully make a story considered well done by not only you guys, but the broader FIMfic community at large. tl;dr I want to post plot-lines or scenarios to poke discussion about tough topics and "what would you do?" sorta like Forum Theater (look it up, it's a pretty good concept IMHO) you guys get to say your piece and we collaborate (indirectly) on a subject that is touchy and causes people to think. Would posting said plot-lines be considered RPing? Thank you for your feedback.

-Your friendly neighborhood scrub-horse,

TrueGentleman

4608491 I doubt that is RPing if you're just asking for suggestions.

OK, since posting plot lines isn't considered "RP-ing", how do I start a discussion. thread. blog. whatever this thingy is, or can only admins do that?

4609803 You have to properly visit the group:

https://www.fimfiction.net/group/200042/the-intellectuals/threads

There you'll get the post thread-button. In the groups tab you'll have to hit the clickable group name and then the forum button.
