LIZARDS

Alangba

Native to the Scorched Lands in Zebrica, a hostile place with boiling lakes, frequent earthquakes, and active volcanoes, the Alangba have nonetheless been able to thrive here by using lodestones to navigate the terrain.

Myn-Rem

Mysterious tribal reptiles, these monitor lizards are native to Hosstralia, and are masters of illusion

Yilane

Descended from Aigialosaurs (which would also give rise to the Mosasaurs), the Yilane are masters of breeding biotechnology, "growing" cities by using seeds of trees/houses, using a breed of caterpillars to destroy all invading plant life, then specialized worms turning the bodies of the dead caterpillars and their droppings into fertile soil, breeding machines such as a frog used as a microscope, cephalopod "boats", even living "cloaks" and "beds". Females rule, though the two above could be either male or female, as the two genders have no obvious visible differences in their normal state. Yilane language consists of a few spoken words, mixed with body language and changing the colors of their palms.

Yilane females lay their eggs in a special pouch the males have. this causes the males to undergo a metabolic change, becoming fatter and more sluggish. the young grow in the pouch and then emerge and go into the sea.

Yilane "technology"

In order to clarify the extent to which the Yilane have advanced in the field of selective breeding.

URUKETO: the last of the ichthyosaurs, these large reptiles are bred by the Yilane as living submarines. there is a large chamber above the spine, which opens into the hollow dorsal fin, which has a top which can open and close, forming a watertight seal. thin, transparent membranes act as windows, and open nerve endings allow the Yilane to steer their "ship"

a breed of extant plesiosaurs known as Enteesenat are used to hunt food for the much larger uruketo, while the Yilane crew keep a species of domestic pigeon called an isekul* (the * indicates a smack of the lips), which acts as a living compass.

UNUTAKH: a Yilane gastropod used to clean scientific specimens, digesting hair and epidermal plates with ease

UGUNKSHAA: a lizard bred by the Yilane to be used as a memory orb, since Yilane rely on body signals as well as spoken words. A smaller subspecies is used as surveillance equipment by hanging onto the legs of trained giant eagles and owls.

SANDUU: the Yilane "microscope", a species of frog, the sanduu's "eyes" are actually organic lenses. the large one lets in light, while the stalk allows the user to peer at the sample. magnification up to 200 power is possible under perfect conditions. a subspecies, the masinduu, lets in light through the stalk lens. when a glass projector is put in front of the large lens, it allows a projected image to be displayed on a surface.

HESOTSAN: a "living gun" bred from a monitor lizard species by the Yilane, the young are slender and mobile, but stiffen as they grow. steam power generated from glands fire out darts that are loaded into it. the darts pass over poison glands. the poison produces paralysis and death when as little as 500 molecules are present.

GULAWATSAN: an alarm creature bred by the Yilane. the sound these frogs make are deafening at close range

URUKTOP: A dinosaur bred from small horned dinosaurs by the Yilane, this eight-legged beast is used as a land transport, as well as a general pack animal

EISEKOL: a manatee relative used by the Yilane, bred for dredging and underwater channel clearing.

BOAT: a cephalopod bred by the Yilane as a boat, they are trained to follow simple commands.

Sleestak

Native to Concordia's few jungle-filled canyons and valleys, the Sleestak are distant relatives of the Yilane, being descended from Aigialosaurs. Like their Zebrican cousins, they had re-adapted to life on land.

However, beyond superficial appearance, the Sleestak are very different from the Yilane.

Sleestak are not as gifted as their dinosaur neighbors. They are not adapted to run, their small teeth are not able to inflict much damage (though they do possess pharyngeal jaws in addition to their teeth), and their claws are more adapted to gripping rather than slashing. They make up for these natural shortcomings by making tools, and in spite of their pincer-like claws, the Sleestak are very dexterous, able to manufacture crossbows, rope, nets, periscopes, bolas, and slings.

In addition to their own hissing language, they possess a rudimentary form of telepathy.

Due to their large light-sensitive eyes, they hate bright light and rarely venture out during the day. Sleestak also have a "hibernation season" during which they cocoon themselves into rocky alcoves using some sort of webbing; cool air keeps them in hibernation, and the rising temperatures of spring and summer will revive them. Sleestak eggs are gestated in a communal hatchery, where the adults capture live animals and tie them up, leaving them for the young to feed on when they hatch.

The Sleestak are governed by both a Council and a Leader. The Sleestak Leader wears a distinctive pendant, and the Council often consults the "Library of Skulls" where several skulls belonging to their ancient ancestors are somehow able to communicate with them and dispense advice.

Mo'o

relatives of the gecko, these tribal reptiles are scattered on islands throughout the Great Western Pelagic Ocean.

Psychokin

Native to marshlands and forests in Southern Equus, Psychokin have spread across the globe for thousands of years in secret.

Psychokin are able to rapidly adapt to different environments via a process called "Introverted Adaptation", basically a small-scale version of magic-fueled evolutionary burst. This is mostly limited to color and the function of their biorhythms and metabolism, though it has caused the evolution of four distinct sub-species

In psychokin society, one parent raises the child, usually doing so in the opposite genders, leading to females being raised by their fathers and vice-versa.

Bisaflor

These unusual nomads have an endosymbiotic relationship with a very large type of flower. The flower reeks of death, the fumes can even be toxic and keeps large predators and competition away; however it attracts insects which brings food for the young lizards

TURTLES

Chelon

East of Snake Island lies Turtle Island, home to various species of VERY odd chelonians, including the Chelon.

At first sight the most remarkable features of this chelonian are its bipedal stance, light build and agility. The closest relatives of this animal are tree-creeping creatures representatives of a group of therizinosaur-like semi-bipedal herbivorous chelonians. Like all the advanced chelonians (characterized by their vertical limbs and rudimentary endothermy), these descend from a swift, and probably arboreal turtle form. From this creature, the chelon inherited its reduced and flexible shell, which is composed of a leathery tegument and bordered with bony protrusions. From the much more recent arboreal ancestors, the chelon has inherited long and prehensile and opposable fingers forming a pincer-like structure.

Marauder Tortoise

Peaceful reptiles, these nomads are often found wandering the forest of the world, and though they are aware of events outside the forests, they try and keep out of the affairs of other species.

Most individuals have a large area of territory that they often wander through, but don't stray too far from. occasionally they will pick up temporary tag-alongs in the shape of adventurers looking for company/a guide until they have to part ways again.

Kamex

An unusual tribal reptile, Kamex are able to aim their siphon "cannons" and fire water jets to propel in any direction, very much like a squid. They intake large supplies of water through their mouths and store it in a specialized organ in the chest under the shell. Kamex primarily eat shellfish, blasting water to help pull them off. Babies start out primarily aquatic and as they grow they eventually become semi-terrestrial and lose their developed swimming tail in favor for a heavier counterweight tail. Adolescents spend much of their time drifting motionlessly after meals to facilitate the tremendous growth, sometimes for months. As a result coral sea fans often take root on them, especially on their head.

Kamex live in riverside/seaside tribal communities, tending to shellfish farms.

HORK BAJIR

Tuatara relatives native to the Galard Archipelago. They have snake-like necks with a sharp beak at the end of their heads, tyrannosaurus-like feet, three claw-tipped fingers and a thumb on each hand, and measure to a height of seven feet in adulthood. Their most notable feature is that they have huge, long blades all over their bodies: their elbows, wrists, feet, legs, head, and tail. Male and female Hork-Bajir are told apart by the number of blades on their heads; males have three blades while females have two.

Although they look fierce, they're a race of pacifists. They never even understood the concept of violence or fighting until the Yeerks showed up on their islands. Their blades are used for stripping bark off the huge 100 to 1,300 foot trees on their native lands. In fact, there was a lot they didn't understand, since their mental capabilities don't really measure up to those of most other races. Their intelligence is equivalent to that of an equine toddler. Although, some suspect that they may simply be intelligent in different ways that they don't show. They can't see well in the dark, but they do have an excellent sense of hearing and smell. They also can stand a lot of pain and heal quickly.
