(although yes, in all the variations of 3E, multiclassing a spellcaster is a bad idea. Multiclassing in general is a bad idea, though.)

IMO, it depends on how and with what you multi-class him/her. Ranger or Rogue wouldn't be too bad for a level or two (multi-classing a Rogue with a Wizard is more effective, though). Or even a Sorc with a level or two of Monk. And, as always, depends on your role in the party. And, of course, your personal play style. And character background.

But, yeah, it does.
