Well, BF3 on what? I used to play Xbox, but 24-man servers aren't really ideal given the circumstances the game is made to handle.

If you are look to get BF3 on the PC you will have to make an Origin account though I agree with your friend that you should get a steam account too. There are many great games on Steam you can find like Teamfortress 2, bordlands 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike and much more. Origin is EA's knock off of Steam and is decent at best. I only have it just for BF3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
