Chapter Star is not a welcomed place for Mature stories. If you have a story with Diamond Tiara, that focuses at least a full blown chapter to Diamond Tiara, if the chapter is marked DIAMOND TIARA, add it to the MATURE folder.

Thank you. I do realize many of us do know how to use a filter system, and that Chapter Star is relatively Diamond Tiara light for the most part, but do respect the rules of "ALL MATURE STORIES GO IN MATURE FOLDER" or if unsure Note me the story in question and I'll review it.

This is for the most part a NON-MATURE group. We have people come here both young and old and everything in between. The Mature folder is there specifically to help people avoid running into things that might not be appropriate or to their liking.

I Might go ahead and add a Mature Chapter Star. There are a few stories out there that aren't fully Diamond Tiara focused but do have full chapters dedicated to her and often times Silver Spoon. If this sounds like something you want, or wish to just keep the one folder pure DT focused, let me know in the comments.

While I don't consider it to be "mature", exactly, "The Rise of Darth Vulcan" is looking like Tiara will be a recurring character, so it could probably be moved out as well.

I know Diamond Tiara can be a pain the ass...but there's no need for us to give her a pain in her ass (or other assorted parts), but if we must. I'll take that into consideration, I guess.

As a random thought experiment, I decided to turn my mature filter on (to therefore block mature fics) and look at the Mature folder.

As you can see, the other 79 stories are completely invisible to me. I'm slightly amused at Regidar's story being marked [t] and therefore still being visible...but still apparently qualifying as mature by this group's standards. I guess.

Anyway.

The idea of needing to separate mature stories out, segregate them, and put them in their own special folder has nothing to do with protecting the squeamish. You're not fooling anyone. What the mature folder does is let people looking for mature stories find them, without having to dig through a bunch of non-mature stories.

There really is no purpose in preventing stories that are mature from going in any other folder. If someone doesn't want to see it, it is super easy to keep that filter on. It's on by default. You have to actually turn it off to see mature stores. In fact, by even having a mature folder, you're creating something that is visible to someone with the mature filter on, that forces them to consider turning it off so they can see the contents of the folder, perhaps due to curiosity.

So your efforts to "protect" people don't, and actually reduce the effectiveness of what protections do exist, and should be used by people who need protecting.

As I pointed out, the folder serves the purpose of actually making mature content easier to find for those seeking it. It also puts a folder that may, in some cases, tempt others to look who otherwise would see nothing and likely not even think of it. So overall, the group is clearly helpful to those seeking smut. But what this kind of policy does is make some kinds of users have a harder time. Lets say some mature story exists that does qualify for another folder. Say "Chapter Star" as is the topic of this thread. What if someone is looking for these kinds of stories, that star DT for a chapter, and don't mind mature stories? There are only 57 stories in the folder. Someone could easily either read all of those over time, or filter out some of them as not being interesting. But there are more stories they might like. They'd just have to think to look in the mature folder, then figure out for themselves if any of those 80 fics qualify as "chapter star" material. "Best Dad" only has 8 stories in it.

Anyway. I've seen tons of groups have a mature folder. Most of them seem to do it because other groups do it, and don't give it any thought. Running several groups myself or serving as an admin, I've had my hand in a fair amount of story/folder organization efforts. You really have to think over what your organization actually accomplishes. You're seeking to provide some kind of organization that helps readers find stories that normal site searching/filtering can't really provide. Simply searching [Diamond Tiara] + [Mature] should probably find any DT smut someone is looking for. So the main purpose of the mature folder seems redundant.

We appear to be missing quite a few, actually. Someone want to go fetch those?

I'd suggest just getting rid of the mature folder entirely. Let site functionality serve it's purpose. Saves you effort. Let mature stories mingle with the non-mature, and provide meaningful grouping. Marking a story as containing a single chapter starring Diamond Tiara isn't something that can easily be searched for. So that should stay. It just should contain all stories that the group has found and deemed fit. Let those needing protection protect themselves with proper filter use. Everyone wins.

4594516 Saving myself 'effort' isn't what we set out to do. This group started off with not allowing or even wanting to allow Mature stories in it. The fact it even has one and Mature fics have been able to really thrive for the most part. particularly BEFORE the site began to offer better filtering, is mostly due to wanting to make sure those who want that stuff could feel just as welcomed as any other reader.

Many have thought it a bit unfair to have the M folder so 'removed' from other folders. That's intentional. And yes, I've even added a couple fics to M that had Chapter Star equivalent content. Chapter Star alone is more for acknowledging a writer's work whose done more than the "You're a blank flank!" and show a more compelling narrative then "I hate everything so all must suffer!" from Diamond Tiara.

A lot of other people out there can give two craps about how they manage a folder. And it's been my plan to help create a better experience for people once we got enough stories to justify the addition of Subfolders. The fear has been creating too much bloat, but if actual writers would like to give some input for how best to improve the M folder, I'm all ears. Mature writers DO have a voice in this group, too.

Honestly? Chapter Star and Best Dad were never intended to be a thing. Stories that aren't remotely Diamond Tiara centric or at least casted her as a recurring character were never to have a place in this group. I've been *extremely* lenient towards non-DT focused stories. Why? Because maybe someone might have found something else to enjoy, see how others write DT and how she affects and impacts the world and/or its characters.

This is not remotely about 'protecting' anyone. If they wanted to simply use the search features on the site, they are welcomed to do so. But for the most part, while I do admit Mature could use more love, filter or no filters you'll be able to find what you want where you'd expect to find them. If I was "protecting" people from the "evil mature stories" I wouldn't have spoken up to allow more mature oriented writers who enjoy more mature [violent, or sexually arousing] stories to have more equal rights in the group that for the most part is SFW.

We're not the Foalcon Group, here you know that if you want to avoid potential foalcon but still love mature stories, you won't have to fiddle with any On/Off shenanigans.

So, no. While I do admit, it has been hard keeping up with the mature scene, every story added into Mature Folder by me has been read. A few others I'm still reviewing, mainly those that aren't strictly DT focused. I've asked for assistance in the field of Mature fics in the past but I'm relataively on my own there and I don't mind it all. But that does mean some stories, especially when I'm away from Fimfiction for days or weeks on end as has happened before, mean that one or two might fall between the cracks. It's not a perfect system.

Before we re-did the entire folder system you have now, every single story was added into a notepad and reviewed. We were cleaning up the group and streamlining it. I personally feel Chapter Star and Best Dad detract from the main folders, but I still felt it was a great way to promote stories of people who at least work hard on characterization and such. And Filthy Rich stories are hard enough to find, much less the decent E to T rated stories. There might be only 8 stories in that one, but for Filthy Rich fans it's 8 stories they likely wouldn't have found otherwise.

Basically: We aren't other groups. We aren't aiming to be other groups. We're The Diamond Cutters and much like Diamond Tiara we do things OUR way. Which means, actually giving more of a damn about how we present the stories in our folders. And periodically scanning them to review fics to make sure stories in those main folders stay relevant to Diamond fans' interests.

We work hard so readers don't have to.

Also, I recall Hippie's story. Not sure why it wasn't added, I can't recall. It might be in my RL. But thanks for bringing that one to my attention. Group IS for readers and I appreciate that some actually do contribute, beyond myself, to add stories to the group folders. You'd be surprised how few do.

4594516 Seems that story was an oversight on my part. I appear to have even reviewed its first chapter and gave the story a like as well. Though as per the usual, another DT multi-chap story that went no where past its first chapter. Very few multi-chaps do. That said, I'll put it on my tracking list. If the story ever updates I'll be sure to include it to the group. Though you're free to do so if you wish.

4594516 This operates under the assumption that "mature" is equivalent to "sex". This is not so. What if the reader is sex-aversive, but wouldn't mind reading a story with "mature-level" violence? Violent stories, at least those that aren't violence-porn, would likely qualify better under Tiarable Times, so keeping the separation still serves a purpose.

The mane problem with both Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, is that they were blatantly introduced as foil for the CmC as villains.
They were larter given more possitive and endearing treites, such as their friendship.
There is a new question to this matter, in how they will continue after they broke up just before the crusders gained their mark(s).

I already had several stories to their names, both individualy and as a group.
Due to late reveals, I extracted a story about Diamond Tiara from a dark and violent story; in which I move all the focus towards Diamond Tiar, in order to make use of new information and to spread further light on the more adorble and responsibel filly she has been proven to be.

4594982 This could be a serious problem, while there are two separate undercategories to the tag that can be applied individually while you create the story. I like the idea of applying Mature to stories that has no Sex or Violence/Gore to them; when the story is over the heads of younger readers due to language or topics that may not be appreciated for them. Vocabulary is after all built up as we grow and mature.

I've been thinking about the "mature stories go in the mature folder and that's it" policy a bit. Specifically, about limiting it more to the extreme end, clop and such. The reasoning being that people who don't want to see mature stuff will most likely have view mature turned off. But before any change happens, it's something I'll need to discuss with the rest of the mods.

Before they added the term bookshelves, they were just referred to as folders. And I still refer to them as such, because that's how files are organized with computers ;)

As for DT, Spoon, and their families, this thread isn't the place to discuss them. There is a thread on people speculating about Diamond's mother though, as well as Diamond (and Spoon's) role now that they've been reformed. I doubt they'll do much with Spoiled though. DT isn't one of the main cast members (Mane-6, Spike, CMC), so that puts Spoiled two steps removed. We might get her in the background somewhere, but beyond that, unless there's a CMC episode that involves them helping Diamond Tiara with a mother related problem... and in that case, Spoiled will likely be the antagonist again. Unless they specifically want to reform her, which is unlikely to happen.
