Upcoming Story Alert: Secondhand Laughter · 8:48pm Jul 23rd, 2021
Hi everyone!
If you've been following me then you've probably noticed that today I published the last chapter of The Opening Act. In fact, chances are that you found this blog post through the Author's Note of that chapter. In any case, the way that chapter ends is the way I felt that story needed to end. However, it is only the beginning of what I had planned, the opening act, if you will.
To the point that the sequel is ready to go and will be posting in it's entirety on Friday. Like "the coming Friday" Friday.
I highly recommend you go and read the entirety of The Opening Act if you have not done so already before proceeding. New story info and cover art below the line.
Okay, so!
The story is titled Secondhand Laughter and follows Pinkie and Trixie around 8 months after the events of The Opening Act. I conceptualized it as a one shot, but split it up into 3 chapters for ease of reading and because of some other stuff that will make sense when you get your eyes on it. Still, as I said, all three chapters will be posting at the same time so you will get the reading experience I was going for.
As for what's happening... well. Here is the summary:
Nobody said that friendship would be easy. There are often as many bad nights as there are good ones. The important part is being there regardless.
Or at least that's what Pinkie keeps telling herself as Trixie, once again, fails to pick up her phone. She can't be mad at her for that though. Trixie's been having a bad night. In fact, there's been a lot of bad nights lately. Maybe, by going over to her apartment, Pinkie can help change that.
So yeah! I hope you'll join me on Friday for another little journey.
As always, thank you for time.

Nice
Ooooh, this should be coming out today, right?? I'm pretty excited! I've really enjoyed this series immensely so far. I like how grounded Trixie feels as a disillusioned illusionist, her feelings of losing the magic in her life feel very relatable. I almost feel like the story could work as an allegory for the very modern social media depression some people experience. The way Trixie is made unhappy because she can't help comparing her smaller scale magic (achievements) to the "real magic" that she has seen and even experienced herself feels familiar. I've also really liked so far how Trixie has been portrayed and evolved over the course of the two entries in the series so far. And, I'll admit, I have a certain fondness for characters that feel like they are background or secondary characters in their own lives.
I think I'm most excited to see Pinkie take a bigger role in this next story, though. She's been a small but important part in each of the stories and I've liked what she brought to the table as a thoughtful confidant and friend to the rather prickly, confused and career focused Trixie. The second story kinda expositions some about their relationship during and after high-school but I'm really curious to see more natural character interaction. Or not! The next story could be mostly Pinkie focused with Trixie taking a back seat and I'd still be thrilled!
Thanks for writing this series! I'm super excited to read more.

Thank you so much for your comment! It means a lot.
The story should publish sometime between 4:30 and 5 depending on when it passes the approval process thing. Based on what you said you’re looking forward to, I think you’ll be pleased.
I really like your analysis of the social media angle. It’s not one I intended, but it does definitely work and it is one that is definitely applicable.
Thank you for your time and your thoughts ^_^
