It's because of these short, undeveloped clopfictions getting that damn feature box when so many other people deserve it more. And it's not even just those, either, it's the otherwise terribad fics getting there as well.

People just have terrible taste in general. It's as simple as that.
I do however not claim to be better than others. To many people I probably have an abysmal taste when it comes to fics.

It's pretty damn depressing, especially watching my friend's fic, a fic he worked his ass on creep up to slot three from slot five, and then get shafted right back to slot seven thanks to My Little DJ, and at least one fic that isn't even up there any more.

Oh yeah, if you're wondering what his fic's called, it's The Mute Octave. It got bombed by people down-voting just due to the name of the main character being Henry, which is also a part of the author's username. He's practically half Mexican and half Klingon. The likelihood of his name being Henry IRL fell to zero about 5 years before he posted his story. Also, people don't seem to understand how people can stay mute from PTSD... Eh, whatever. At least his fic got up there for a while. It was nice seeing something I'd helped get up there, even if people hated it without reading.

For example, Romance Reports. I started that thinking that it'd be more about the story, but... All in all, it really didn't have a story, and that's what was wrong with it. There wasn't enough forward momentum, nor was there enough learning from Twilight. She never learned the lesson that she should have when she first talked with her friends. Instead, she only dug herself deeper until she had to literally beg Cheerilee to sleep with her to make up for it, and that right there overrides the Aesop/moral/whole reason for the story, because once again, sex got her in that mess, and it got her out.

I think this whole thing, including that TWE thread, was a huge waste of time for the people who argued over it. We all would of been far better off just writing fics, even if they don't get attention.
I'm always somewhat shocked when someone admits to being wrong on the internet, especially over something they felt this strongly about. Kudos to you.

The problem isn't the stories, if people didn't read and like them they wouldn't be in the featured box. If in general people liked long complex stories more they would be walking around with a book (or kindle or something) instead of an Iphone.

I like clop (or at least some of it, even some of us have standards ) but i like a good story more and the featured box is flawed in itself from the start, regardless of clop. If it wasnt clop it would be short (un)funny comedy fics (like it mostly was before clop you have to admit).

It needs a split part for longer stories, in the "new" stories part. The 3 for continued stories already means it isnt a oneshot.
