    New Story Being Posted Today/Tomorrow

So, depending on your time zone depends on which of those is true, but in about 12-15 hours I'll be submitting my one shot.

After this one-shot, I'll be continuing the next chapter of Hoard. I'm gonna try to push for a pre-new year update, but with both of my original editors MIA, as well as the likely size, I'm not sure how realistic that is.

Dao Swords. · 10:54pm Aug 27th, 2012

It has come to my attention that I should of posted some pics of Dao Swords for reference. The will be added in the comments portion of the next chapter, but I'll post them here as well so you don't have to wait.

For those of you who paid attention, you might remember that Celestia only gave Spike one sheath, or scabbard. This is how that works.

Here is a pair of absolutely beautifully crafted Dao Swords,

Now normally if I was going to talk martial arts anime is the last place I would go. However, Avatar uses a number of Kung Fu styles in absolute perfection. Zuko uses Dao Swords and the animation team deserves full props for the perfect representation of the style. Pay attention to how Zuko strikes together with both blades and uses very fluid movements, that's what I mean by, "two halves of the same sword". Also, the hook sword style is dead on for Jet.

And yes, that was the best video I could find after looking for like 30 mins.

The music is, okay. Wish they hadn't cut the scenes up though. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Luna_apple.png

nice... I've always wanted a real set of these swords

You've seen Avatar. +5 rep.

316027 Yep. I don't much like the new Avatar though. The only really good scene was when Amon died, it was quite touching.

Did you ever try to draw Wrath like you said you would? I'm not pressuring or anything, just curious.

Bitchin':rainbowdetermined2:

Respct to you brony.

316073 The new Avatar is iffy, mostly because the writers apparently forgot how to pace a story. Sure, it was quick, but good god, guys, learn how to not rush things.

Hell, the moment from Korra learning Airbending... out of fucking nowhere up to the point where Amon/Tarrlock die is amazing to watch. srsly, rage and desperation teaches you the airbending of the peaceful, calm monks???

*ahem* As for drawing Wrath, I have yet to do it. I'm shooting through commissions and working the hell out of NaPoWrMo. Like most people, I do have some terrible sketches here and there.

316119 I tried to draw Pegasus' wings today... it did not go well.

What pissed me off more than anything was how all these rare bending skills were suddenly main stream. Metal benders, a power generator company full of lightning benders, and blood benders everywhere. It was only 80 years, is nothing special!

316159 I can't draw pegasi wings for shit. I can get better, but for now, I suck.

That pissed me off, too. Mako pulled Lighting out of his ass, and Beifong is a hyper metal-bitch. Just kidding, she's had the saddest moment of the show.

But yeah, holy shit guys, what are you going to do next? I swear to god, if we see a third series and they start shitting out cellphones... I actually missed the underdeveloped world of The Last Airbender, where scrolls, and adventuring, and learning spiritual secrets... I mean, 100 years yielded what for Aang in his sleep? The world changed a bit, whoopdee do. Que Legend of Korra, BWOASHIT, it's apparently the Great Depression.

Is this from The Balance?

316181 No, Eternal. I realize I should have mentioned that.

316174 There was tech in Avatar but it was all based of bending, which was awesome. Bei-fong had some excellent moments.

The characterization sucked for the most part too. Zuko, Aang, and Sakka are amazing characters.

316197 Yes there was, but the jump between Aang's time and the time of TLA was expected, while the jump between TLA and LOK was massive, like they had ripped things straight from our world. Legend of Korra definitely needed some work, but it was entertaining.

I like Zuko just like the others, while Aang is... he's kind of there. In a good way. You know his job, and you like that he's saving the world. Sokka actually gets some decent character development in comparison to the others.

When the hell did Celestia give Spike Dao swords? I'm missing something here?

316209 Oh yeah. Aang grows up a lot through out the series while still staying fun and playful. But the difference between 1 episode Aang trying to penguin slide and explore old warships from last episode Aang fighting the Ozai and battling with taking his life is so massive. The experiences during the show have seeable changes in him.

Zuko and his internal conflict with himself. Zuko went from being kind of annoying and sad, to being a hero who was willing to stand up against his own society and its wrongs.

Sokka was a character who was constantly trained through out the series. However, he was in such a shitty position as the non-bender. Aang and Katara got all the good parts to the point you could write Sokka off for most of the show. Even with his Kioshi training, he never got to use it when the Rough Riders attacked. But damn, when Sokka starts showing off his ingenuity and has serious not comic relief parts, he's probably the best character. The Sword Master is one of my favorite episodes. Fun fact, of the entire cast, Sokka is the only person who actually kills. He kills combustion man.

316245 Aang does see character development, but it's expected. Sokka and Zuko have character development to better their character, not because they're supposed to save the world, and I liked that. Not to mention Sokka actually managed to be more badass because of his status as a non-Bender. The Western Air Temple marked the time where we actually saw him to better than the benders in question.

Amon's death was the most touching murder-suicide I've ever seen in a children's television show. And that is a sentence I never expected to write.

I hadn't managed to picture the Dao Swords correctly, thanks for the explanation.

316444 It was the best part of the series. Bei-Fongs sacrifice was the other really good moment.

Yeah, my bad :twilightblush:

Dao blades are fucking epic. I have a set of my own, used them in a performance Kata I created to obtain my black belt in Karate. Fucking love those swords.

316480 That's kind of odd honestly. Karate is hand to weapon combat developed by the Japanese. Dao Swords are part of Chinese Kung Fu weaponry styles.

316540

well, it was more of a mixed style karate, with heavy base of kung fu mixed in with it. So technically it was a black belt for both styles at the same time as I was going for both.

316741 I'm not into MMA. I train in multiple pure arts and then use different moves from each in fights.

The difference between MMA and what I do is that MMA teaches a select number of moves from each martial arts mixed into it. I train each as a solo practice, but combine them in combat.

316754

I did train in pure arts before, and still do. I trained in Kempo Karate, and jiu-jitsu. once I earned my black in them I began MMA, then went back into pure by training with my father in Aikido

316767 Worthwhile endeavors.

316883

most definitely. So how long have you practiced?

317426 12 years of Karate, 8 year of chi blocking and pressure point based Kung Fu, 6 years of Judo and Muay Thai.

317545

sweet. I had 10 years of karate, 2 years in Aikido and 3 in MMA. I dabbled with Muay Thai and Krav Maga but never stuck with it
