Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

We've had a string of good episodes the last few weeks. Whether it be shapeshifting seaponies, an actual Celestia episode, or discovering Starlight's dark phase, we've had lots of fun and plenty of laughs.

Today's episode is about Applejack and Rainbow Dash competing.

    The good times are over.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Horse Play

So hey, it's a new episode. Surely nothing to be excited about. Just another standard episode of a cartoon pony show.

    Only it's a CELESTIA EPISODE!

Prepare for extra spicy biased scoring as we look at Best Princess' newest episode, “Horse Play!”

Dear Discovery Family and/or Hasbro · 4:11pm May 2nd, 2015

We are six episodes into the new season. Every single one of your commercials has been for the premiere and says it's the newest episode. Stahp. Make a new commercial. You have two weeks before the next episode. You have time.

As for this week's episode...well, it was both a CMC and a Polsky episode, the synopsis sounded really blah, and the preview clips promised more bizarre changes to the setting and timeline, so I came in expecting to hate it. And...

It turned out to be okay.

Just my luck.

Tee hee.
I really enjoyed this one.
Maybe you should run away and join the circus :trollestia:

You know I been hoping for a pitchfork and torches ponified thing to use for like 3 seasons now.

I'm pretty satisfied with that. It gets a 0.5+ just for having best background ponies come in with one for the GET'EM and another 0.5 for the "Turned out not so bad" moments. That's a nice two'fer one right there!

Spoilers

That was a great CMC episode. Best one this season. Sweetie Belle has gotten the hang of basic unicorn magic. And can even project her will through walls. Nice development.

Horses are a thing, though don't appear to be common around Equestria. Though they can get cutie marks but those from Saddle Arabia can't? So many nice small moments. Very heavy on the slice of life aspects so nothing major really stood out if you aren't into those smaller continuities and small tidbits of new canon.

7.5/10

Smooth pacing. Nice morals. And Braeburn was just a doll. He's like the opposite of AJ, silly pony who has a small attention span and isn't the most reliable of ponies but means well. Also, he's this episode's Spike!

So basically, stubborn adults thinking kids ain't worth listening to and genuine near deaths almost occurred in this episode that turn out to be all but a horse with a bad luck cutie mark. And CMC remain as blank as the day they were born, only blanker and shinier. But at least the CMC grew in this episode.

Not much re-watch value I'm afraid. But it was pretty nice.

I really like those two stallion's design. Especially the one in the red hat.

Also I'm worried where the torch went.

Thank you for that gif. :D

For me, the more unexpected thing was that the forces of law did their job for once, the royal guards should learn from appleloosa.

P.S:It's me or the ponies with the torches are dissapointed of not being able to use them?

I'm sure you're just exaggerating for comedic effect, but why would you even watch something if you were expecting to hate it in the first place?

I liked the episode. I think all this discussion of cutie marks is going to be that final push that gets the CMC their marks. And I think it'll be in the finale.

If not, it'll be spread out across the season with an episode for each kid.

Nothing harsh-es a mobs mellow like finding out the bad guy isn't so bad after all.

3037407 That mare screaming about her mane being on fire is probably a pretty good indication of where it went! :twilightoops:
:rainbowlaugh:

And yeah... Discovery Family has a REALLY impressive advertising budget... You'd think they'd show a little more respect to the show that keeps WHATEVER network they call themselves afloat. :ajbemused:
