The God Squad Quickie: The Next Generation

"Package for you Sunny!" Hitch said, pushing in a large wooden crate.

"What the hay is it?" Sunny asked, tapping on the box.

"Not sure... there is a note though." Hitch opened it open. "Huh. It says, 'Congrats on being an Alicorn, he's your problem now, Signed Twi'. Who is Twi-"

    New comedy one shot

Still working out the finer details but I might be posting a new comedy one-shot sometime this weekend. I don't want to say too much so I'll just leave the title and the 1 sentence summary:

    Princess Twilight Blew a Walrus
"Yes, you did read that right"

Sunset and Tydal in the EG Universe

So, as established in Book 2 a Human Sunset still exists. And apparently when a being from the EG universe has an Equestrian take over their body... they remember everything.

Meaning Dean Tydal, already not to most stable individual when it comes to protecting those he cares for... now has a War God's memories in his head.

Non-Pony related: National Novel Writing Month · 2:27am Oct 30th, 2014

So... I normally don't do things like this but I thought it might be fun and give me the kick in the pants I need to get back to doing some serious non-fan fiction writing. So, dun dun dun dun!, I am going to be participating in National Novel Writing Month!

Now, since I have a few days, I just need to decide which of the four novels I have bouncing around in my head I should write. Here are the four current ideas I have.

'A Monster's Tale'- A retelling of the Frankenstein myth from the Monster himself, revealing that much of what we thought we knew was a lie and that who is the man and who is the monster is up for debate. (Drama/Retelling)

'Confessions of a Reluctent Supervillain'- The story of Dex Deus, son of two supervillains who realizes he isn't evil... and how his parents, their friends, and the entire hero community is sure he must be bad to the bone. (Comedy/Superheros)

'The Heart of War'- A total departure for me, writing wise. A young woman named Denny answers a job posting and ends up being hired by Ares, the Greek God of War, to be his personal assistant. Imagine her surprise when the War God turns out nothing like she expected. (Young Adult)

'The Bible with Bill'- A book several people want me to write right now. This story, written as a series of episodic tales, stars Bill. Bill is an immortal being who wanders around the Old Testiment interacting with God, the Devil, Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses, Samson, Lot and his family, Goliath and more, pointing out how they are making things harder than the need to be. Bill is the straight man to the insanity that is the Biblical Days. (Pure comedy)

Any one people want to vote on?

Confessions of a Reluctant Supervillain sounds good.

Fucking authors, how do they work?

>supervillains
Capes are cool :moustache:

By 'cape' I mean 'd00d with superpowerz'. Do you even Worm?

Personally, I like "Heart of War". It's got the most human aspect, and I think that it has the most potential for a good plot.

I don't suppose you can do two?
because I want the supervillain one and the god of war one

Heart of War, that one I'm interested in. That or The Bible With Bill but mostly for Heart of War.

I'd rather you continue writing God Squad, but I don't have control over your will yet, so my vote goes to Heart of War.

The Confessions of a Reluctent Supervillain is something I am leaning towards because it will be similar, in tone, to The God Squad. For example, here is a moment where Dex tells his mother, the dark sorceress Zlota Yaga, that he doesn't think he's evil

"Dex, did I ever tell you the last thing your grandmama told me before she died? She looked me right in the eye and said, 'Ours is a legacy of darkness and your child shall be the one who fullfills all our dark desires!'" Zlota squezed her son's hand gently. "And she was right. Mama had the sight and she saw that you would do great things with your magic."

Dex frowned. "Those weren't grandmama last words."

"Of course they were!"

"No... grandmama's last words were 'Zlota, no! Don't hit me with the fire poker!'"

Dex's mother ran her tongue along her teeth. "Well... yes, technically those were her last words-"

"She shouldn't have insulted your mother's turkey," Dominic chimed in. "YOu know how important Thanksgiving is to her."

"-but she did tell me that."

Dex looked down and said in a small voice, "I miss grandmama."

"I do to, my boy, but she's in Hell now and she's never coming back. And do you know why?"

"Because we're ducking Beelzebub because you owe him money."

"Because I owe him money," Zlota echoed.

Heart of War makes me nervous because it is a complete departure for me. It would be Young Adult with a focus on friendship and love, dealing with the idea that Ares got a bad wrap and is stuck doing a job he hates (He's great a war but that doesn't mean he loves it or even likes it).

The goal of NaNoWriMo is to just bang out one novel. I will eventually write all of these... this is just what I want to write FIRST.

And trust me, I want to return to the God Squad too. I am suffering from writer's block with that so I hope a new story will help me push through and get back to it later on.

The middle two seem the best. I, in all honesty, do want to go near the last one, and the first one seems kind of rendundant, considering that anyone with a functioning set of modern values would realize Victor is the one who started it.

The Frankenstein one is interesting because it reveals NOTHING in the original book is correct. The people Victor claims the Monster killed were either murdered by Victor himself OR are actually friends and allies of 'The Monster' (who takes the name Mathew) who are trying to help him piece together his life. I think of it as being like 'Wicked', where we see that what happened in one story might not be true at all.

I think "The Heart of War" sounds most interesting.

One of the comedy ones:pinkiehappy::derpytongue2::moustache:

The Heart of War sounds really, really interesting.

Also, good luck, fellow writer! I'm also doing NaNoWriMo (need to get my account rereg'd, I had to change usernames).

Confessions of a Reluctant Supervillain is my vote.
Maybe you could tie it in with God Squad; have Dex make a cameo appearance or some sort of background event or an Equestria Girls/Boys chapter.

I'm gonna cast my vote for Confessions of a Reluctant Supervillain, and a second vote for The Bible with Bill.

I like all of these, but my favorites are as follows: 1. Heart of War and 2. The Bible with Bill.
I would, and will, read any of these.

I like all of these, but my favorites are as follows: 1. Heart of War and 2. The Bible with Bill.
I would, and will, read any of these.

Confessions of a Reluctant Supervillain:
Pro: Sounds like it would a very fun book.
Con: super villain not really being all that villainous has been done before. A lot.

The Heart of War:
Pro: Its always good to try your hand at something new.
Con: The idea itself doesn't sound good to me at all, though that could be my bias against that kind of story.

The Bible with Bill
Pro: Given how good you are with following source material, this looks like it'll be a fun, outside look at the Bible.
Con: As a christian, I know that Christians can make ordinary fans look sane. Messing with the Bible could draw a lot of Fan Dumb.

A Monster's Tale:
Pro: A much needed look from the monsters perspective. Honestly, I don't even know why he's a monster in the first place, he's just a man driven mad.
Con: That said, turning previously evil characters into Woobies is also very popular right now.

Out of all of them, I say go with "A Monsters Tale."

Ah, but you've missed the point with Confessions. The main character ISN'T a villain. At all. Never was. Everyone just THINKS he is a villain. His parents? Yeah, they are nice and sweet but they still hold orphanages hostage.

One friend of mine said it is also a parody of what it is like for a gay person to come out and how society expects you to act. Not being gay I can't say I was going for that at all but I see what they mean.

2564326
Oh, I see. Sorta like Tyler from Ps238, except instead of a series of happy accidents that make a normal kid seem like Batman, he ends up looking like Doctor Doom.

2564365

Kinda. The idea is that Dex just wants to lead a normal life but everyone around him assumes because of who his parents are that he MUST become a villain. It is a story about destiny vs. making your own path. Dex knows he isn't evil but isn't sure what he wants to do with his life. THe humor comes from the villains misunderstanding his actions as some plot and the heroes basically stalking him and believing everything he does is rooted in evil.

2566501

That's the one I am going with. I have already begun designing the world and coming up with the characters, setting, and basic outline. I'll post updates about once a week.

The Frankenstein one, however, goes even further. We find out that he isn't a killer or a brute at all. Even how he came about is a lie Victor told. Everything Victor stated was a lie, created by his own delusions and need to blame 'the Monster' for his own sins... literally. Many of the characters that die are killed by Victor himself and the Monster ends up actively trying to stop him. Not in a Rambo way but by working with others to stop Victor. IT deals with the themes of humanity and greed especially.

Its really hard to describe without giving away MAJOR plot points but the monster isn't a shambling corpse at all and almost every event in the book after Victor goes to make his Monster didn't really happen.
